Can't find receipe online, so for anyone interested, receipe:
    1 can black beans
    1 can chickpeas
    1 can lentils
    2 portobello mushrooms
    1 small beet
    1 to 1.5 cups oats
    Tapioca starch (idk amount)
    Nutritional yeast (idk amount)
    Marmite (idk amount)
    Liquid smoke (idk amount)
I'm going to gestimate the "idk amounts"
Hope this helps, headed to the store to make these. Have a great day.

Important tip: When using cooked black beans in any meat-like recipe, dry them out in the oven, on a baking sheet and at a very low temp, for about 20 minutes; I learned this from Minimalist Baker (Best Vegan Meatballs recipe). Also, I pulse them separately, so they don't become mush, and add them at the end to the other ingredients.

I've seen lots of people rinsing and drying in the oven for 15 minutes, and I'm sure that it is fine that way. I don't dry them out. I use the seasoned canned black beans and drain them (saving juice for other things), diced tomato also drained, mash a bit with potato masher, saute lots of onion and garlic and diced mushroom and add, a bit of baking soda, a bit of flour, and a bunch of stuffing mix, egg, soy sauce, multiple seasonings, etc. and they hold together well when making patties and then bake at 400 degrees for 18 - 20 minutes. Turns out great. I have also made from starting with dried black beans, but it takes longer to get them ready to use.

    • @sandrak.robbins6305
      @sandrak.robbins6305 5 месяцев назад

@@TigerGreeneI don't mean that I dry them, I mean that I often start with beans that are straight from the garden and are dried and hard. You have to rinse several times and then soak overnight, drain the water and put fresh water in the pot and bring them to a boil. (Never put salt of seasonings in beans until they are completely cooked and soft, otherwise they will not soften.) Different beans take shorter or longer times to soften. I usually bring them to a boil for 10 minutes and then cover and simmer until soft. Sometimes with beans that are harder, I just cover and turn off the burner and maybe in a couple of hours I'll turn it back on and boil again and simmer until soft. I have lots of different types of dried beans that I use in a variety of ways, one of which is to make patties or balls to bake or fry. It is a great thing to always have on hand and you'll never starve! I freeze them or whatever I have made for later use. Bean dishes do not keep well for a long time in the fridge and will mold. Otherwise, I'll use the canned beans and I will always use the juice or just drain them, but I would never dry them out in the oven. I see no point, and you just loose a lot of flavor that way. :)

Hey I wanted to give you a tip after seeing the video: you pulsend the beans too much and balanced it out by making the patties very thin. I tried it a gazillion times and here is the best way. Smash the chick peas before pulsing with a fork. Then mix everything together. Then pulse in smaller quantities so you don’t smash the beans so much. Black beans become really mushy. Add tapioka starch as needed as well as fresh rosemary and parsley. Now you can form thicker patties. Before putting the patties in the pan put a bit of starch or buckwheat flour on both sides. After frying them on both side for a bit put them in the oven on highest temperature for 10 to 15 minutes to cook through better. The result should be a well textured pattie. Really important: pat the legumes dry. I mean really dry. Can not state enough how important that is.
This should circumvent the issue of having mushy beans through pulsing too often because most blenders are not big enough. Also sth you can do is pulse everything separately an mix with hands without squeezing.

Looks yummy. I would have pulsed the beets more and added sunflower seeds towards the end with the lentils, but other than that, this is very similar to how I've made veggie burgers. The concentrated stock like marmite/vegemite/better than bouillon is key for the flavor, along with some liquid smoke or smoked paprika. Roasted lentils and sunflower seeds add a wonderful chew.

Next time I'm going to make mine thinner like you did. Here are a few things I think can help with texture and process (overall I think we did the same!)
    - Don't use can chickpea. I found this made it too soft.
    - Add the beats earlier for more meat looking texture
    - I added the lentils in the mixing process so kids didn't see them
    - Use a food processor to mix that way it won't be as soft (if that makes sense)

There are SO many things you can cook that are good and have nothing to do with meat. A good starting point is things like "cucina povera" - the traditional "poor person's cooking" where it's not that they didn't eat meat, they just didn't have it available for every meal. Loads of traditional pastas and risottos had no meat. Then there's things like the middle-eastern falafel, of which this burger is really a descendant.

That is so awesome. Let it be known, I've been to Burger King for the Impossible Whopper at least three times already, and I still can't believe that it is completely meatless. Now just like you, I am no means a vegan, I eat meat. And people who are vegan are mostly consuming vegan for health reasons, and not so much as the Health and Welfare of animals. People should not be bullied because what they consume as a person. And when they judge one's masculinity by what they eat, and what they don't eat, being healthy and eating in moderation is not a determination of ones masculinity, rather it is making responsible choices in life, especially with one puts in their body. Kudos.

Not true. A vegetarian is a person who chooses a specific diet, and most still do it for the ethical reasons. The health benifits are just an added bonus! Now. Being VEGAN is a way of life. It means not consuming, using or deriving benefit from ANYTHING that’s harmed a living creature. As a vegan, every single item I ingest, own and use or purchase, are from companies that do not do any animal testing, contain no animal products or byproducts, including the pigment from beetle shells, (also mica because it is mined used child labor) I spend my time making sure the things I do everyday, to the most extreme extent, will not contribute to the suffering, pain, fear, terror and torture of the innocent creations on God’s beautiful earth. It is a struggle but it is so rewarding. This includes everything. My clothing and accessories. Shoes. Purses. Toiletries. Makeup. Food. Furniture. On and on. I also research the ethical standing on companies I purchase from.

So i just made this recipe, the only thing i was missing was the marmite otherwise i did exactly like in the video. Instead of marmite i used a mix of tomato paste, nutritional yeast and soy sauce as someone suggested in my comment on the "carrot ground beef" video...
It was my first time ever using liquid smoke (and the very last one too, the rest of the bottle went down the drain) and I found it to be way too overpowering and it ruined the burgers for me BUT i will try again because I'm sure this recipe is really good without the liquid smoke... maybe I'll put a splash of BBQ sauce instead of liquid smoke or a mix of spices (maybe curry/turmeric/garam masala/...)

I made this tonight. It was really delicious. I couldn’t find canned lentils, so I substituted canned pigeon peas. I also had to transfer to a food processor, as my blended couldn’t handle the thick mixture. I think the secret, like you said, is to make them thin, smash style. The burgers crisp really nicely, and as a stack with cheddar cheese and condiments, they are really, really good.
