“But for pure shock value, I cannot believe what I just experienced.”
Guess they picked a good name for this ride😂
I know I say I'm in shock wave
Airtime Thrills approves this message.
I thought he said it was overrated
He thinks Mind Bender is overrated and Shockwave is underrated.
Except for the SkyRush part 😂
THAT SKYRUSH HATER WOULD !
The first roller coaster I ever road ... in 1984 ... she’s showing her age but so am I! Glad to see it still operates. Great review and accurate. I loved sitting in the back row and raising my knees slightly to keep the lap bar from being pushed down tight ... the first right hand turn off the lift hill always scared me because it felt so high.
I think this ride is really underated, some people are massive fans of it, in fact, I know some people who put this ride in front of NTG. It is not just a positives machine like other Schwarzkopf loopers. Can't wait to watch the video.
It has 5.9 Gs lol
@@prakesh2904 idk how but when i rode it the loops werent that intense
@@prakesh2904 montezuma’s are far more intense
I haven’t been to this park, but I’d probably like this ride a tad more
@@prakesh2904 wait- what-
The good old Schwarzkopf coaster are often overlooked. They usually offer great experiences that many newer coasters do not offer. Unfortunately there aren't very many of them left. But experts have long known the qualities of the Schwarzkopf coaster. For the passengers but also for the parks themselves. Many of the coasters are over 40 years old and still ride very well. This shows. that Schwarzkopf also offered a particularly high quality statically and mechanically. Unfortunately, this high quality increased production costs at the time and was one of the reasons for Schwarzkopf's bankruptcy in 1983.
SFOT person here. Shockwave is definitely a hidden gem. It's rare when a ride has BOTH great positive gs and negative gs instead of one or the other like Titan and NTG respectively.
Curious why you didn't give it a 10 though since you seemed to have no major problems.
IT’S BEEN FOUR YEARS AND WE STILL HAVEN’T SEEN A BEHEMOTH REVIEW
YESSSS
Yeah that would be just as awesome as a Minebuster Review
ITS LIKE A MEME NOW THAT WE WONT REVIEW IT
As SFOT is my home park and since I ride shockwave a lot I actually agree how good it is and I agree with this review
I grew up 15 minutes from Six Flags Over Texas and Shock Wave was my first looping coaster. I have awesome memories of riding it over and over again with my Dad, and being dizzier than a hoot owl afterwards. My favorite coaster still.
Coaster Studios hopping on the Airtime Thrills-sponsored Shockwave train
It existed way before that
could not agree more with this review, I had the exact same experience this past December!
When my dad and I went in late December we rode in the back 5 times in a row. That drop after the loops sent my dad FLYING to the point where we was STANDING UP & he's a bigger man too. My dad also thought he was a goner, it's the only ride out of almost 200 to throw him out like that. This may sound crazy but honestly Shock Wave is my favorite ride in the park.
I think it would be cool to see re-reviews of some of the RMCs that you rode in 2016, like Storm Chaser, Outlaw Run, Iron Rattler, maybe Twisted Colossus as well
I’ll look into it :)
Off topic but I finally got to do Iron Rattler in the back seat and it was awesome!
Never been on a Schwarzkopf looper, but man they look amazing. Wish more of them were built.
Showing my age here. ShockWave was my FIRST BIG coaster! Opened in 1978 but I road it in 1979 and it still had a 2 hour wait with three trains running! The most incredible ride of my life! Still a great ride!
Very underrated roller coaster. My first ride on Skockwave was in 1982 and I still love it!
First rode it in 1979 & hundreds of times since then. What wasn't emphasized in this great video is that the first drop does have major airtime in the back seat, just not as insanely strong like the two drops you focused on. And, in the front seat, Shock Wave shines as well! In the front, the crests of every hill has ejector airtime pops. Not as strong as the back seat airtime, but pretty intense nevertheless. The little rise before the last turn pops front seat riders out of their seat strongly, and the rise into the brake run is another moment of strong front seat airtime. The loops are incredible with insane positive Gs, and the whole ride is smooth as glass. I absolutely rate this above New Texas Giant, and it's my favorite coaster in the park. Highly underappreciated, a hidden gem indeed! Wonderful video!
My third ever coaster, behind the Big Bend (Schwarzkopf), and Runaway Mine Train (Arrow). It just happens that the order you hit the rides at the park. Yes, for shockwave, and a kid, backseat will cause you to pray the lord's prayer.
Taylor, Shock Wave happens to be at my home park...and the funny thing is, I had never rode it before 'til around two years ago. And I love it, I really do. Granted, I'm a front-row rider, but I did try sitting in the back once...best choice I ever made. :P
Shockwave was on my bucket list forever and I finally rode it today. I first discovered Shockwave while watching America's Greatest Roller Coaster Thrills in the 90s. My first Schwarzkopf and looping coaster was SooperDooperLooper at Hersheypark. I love Schwarzkopf coasters. I agree with everything you said. The ride is everything I imagined- smooth, fast, forceful with abrupt and violent airtime. I love it.
Along with Mr. Freeze this is my most anticipated coaster at SFOT when I go there one day!
That will always be one of my favorite roller coasters
I remember about 8 years ago, me and my buddy were about to leave the park, then noticed this coaster on the way out. We went on it because it didnt look too massive and the line was short. I thought it was gonna be a lame coaster from the looks of it, but we both ended up greying out on that second loop which. We both asked eachother if we blacked out, and i didnt even think that was something that was possible on a caster. Looking back, no wonder this coaster is so intense, it's pulling almost 6 Gs!!
ive been a fan since 2014, you are one of the best creators i know!
I just went on this today. It was my first coaster with loops and I absolutely loved it and wanted to go on again
The former Laser at Dorney Park. Double loops like that, I still remember the headaches
I have always loved riding shock wave..and to be honest it is in my top 10 steel coaaters...And I've riding over 100 different ones of them easy. This is a classic for sure and as you know looks can be deceiving..This packs a punch 👊
I love this ride! I’ve ridden it 9 times and every ride is intense. Anton Schwarzkopf was a genius!
I just rode this because of this video. I had limited time and would have skipped it otherwise. Ended up being one of the better rides I did.
I've been riding The Shock Wave since 1978. I absolutely LOVE this coaster. Been in my top 10 forever. I like the front as much as the back for a lot of reasons. I pretty much lean forward the entire ride....with my hands straight out... makes me feel as if I can almost touch the track in front of me. Picking your feet up through the ride ads a little extra something as well.
Thank you for this it doesn’t get nearly enough attention. I got maybe 4 clicks of room one cycle in the back row and went absolutely flying and my jaw almost slammed into the grab bars, I couldn’t stop laughing the rest of the day
Idk why, but this for some reason feels like an old school coaster studios review rather than one of the newer ones
definitely
The way you describe those drops totally reminds of the old wooden coaster over in Vancouver. Like it doesn't look like the drops or hills will be that intense with airtime then you get yoinked as you go over all you can think is 'how is that allowed to be a thing and I love it'.
I remember your ranking of SFOT coasters and being very confused that you ranked this so low. I think it's the clear second best coaster in the park and I wouldn't be baffled if anyone said it was the best in the park. The first time I rode this I remember being completley caught off guard by the airtime. It's so incredibly good. And the front row has a few great airtime moments as well (though the back is the best.) And the loops are maybe the best inverted loops I've ever been on.
This coaster looks weak but it's incredible. I'm glad you've come around to this coaster.
Its nice to see the respect Schwartzkopf coasters and rides have been getting lately. Especially with the two going to Indiana Beach. Would be nice to see the same for old Arrows. Appreciation for the classics...
My first time at six flags over texas(my home park) I rode this and the airtime movements are the best part. The loops are sooooo fun and relaxing and the back seat is the best.
Nice to see Shock Wave getting some love. The back is definitely my personal favorite as well.
This is definitely in my Top 3 for SFOT. Those G's in the loop and the unexplainable air time in the back seat really make the ride. Will also add that it can get a little crazy with the shifting around when you're the only one in a row, lol.
I feel the exact same way on skyrush whenever I'm sitting in the back. I was still nervous on my 15th ride of the day 😭. I'll have to try this too.
I grew up in Texas, and I always loved this ride. Plus, it's tucked away in the back of the park so there isn't a long line.
The ride of steel clones 2nd camelback is profiled just like shockwaves airtime hills, where it all of the sudden gets steeper and u get yanked out of ur seat so violently, and both are rly underrated airtime moments, however on ride of steel since it’s an entire camelback, that tank is sustained for like 3 seconds until u get absolutely slammed back down in ur seat and it hurts ur butt, but u can only get this on ride of steel in the back, and if ur sitting their and it’s running fast and u have room, u literally get standing ejector, and I’m not joking the strength and how sustained it is literally on par with el toro, yet barely anyone talks about the 2nd camelback on ride of steel
It is my time to Shine!!
Fun fact: I literally almost died on this coaster. I left the lap bar a click above where it would have been tight against me, thinking it would be fine. Then at the first ejector moment, I actually almost flew out of the coaster. I had to catch the bar with my knees. And I don't mean I had the sensation of falling out, I ACTUALLY almost came out of the train. I'm the type of person that loves to dangle by the restraint holding my legs on the loop on Full Throttle and I feel perfectly safe, even with it a little loose. On Shockwave, I did not feel safe at all, lol.
GP
Okay well maybe not GP but you wouldn’t have flown out of the car trust me haha. The rides are totally safe
@@Gabes1321 No I'm not GP, and I really did almost come out, trust me I was there. They didn't check the restraint and I didn't have it down enough.
I literally don't understand what dickholes get out of attempting to minimize my experience of which they did not witness.
@@TheRealConcertKing bro, the ride operators aren’t that silly. Don’t call me a dickhole because 1. That’s not a really word, 2. Ur story is bs anyway. You would not have flown out of the cart. Anyway if you are moving that fast on a rollercoaster anyway, your reaction speed wouldn’t be high enough to think ‘oh I need to save myself’. I’m not trying to minimise your experience, I’m telling the truth
I love how there is always like no line too 😏
I went with my best friend a few years ago and we rode this in the back row. I told my friend to look straight up at the front train during the loops and after the second one, he was saying lazily, “I can’t see!” 😂 the forces are really strong in this one. He ended up blacking out.
I rode this about 500 times in the early 90’s. It was almost always a walk on and the backseat rocks!
YES! I LOVE SHOCKWAVE! I'm a big fan of classic coasters, and this is among my favorites.
Been to this park many times, but never been on this ride... I wanna give this a try next time.
Sounds like it's basically Skyliner at Lakemont Park plus 2 loops (that ride has some rediculous buzbar ejector, and is often overlooked).
I loved this coaster too man. Just got on it in December. The ejector startled me, had no idea it was comin. Only coaster I marathoned a few times on the trip. And yes, I do the lifting feet off floor trick too. Easier on B&M's where you barely touch the floor
Shockwave has that special kind of ejector airtime....the kind that crushes your pelvis. I love it.
The drops off the turnarounds are taken with a decent amount of momentum, so even though they're fairly shallow, they still toss you out of your seat in the back. I rode this in September and got the same experience you did
I remember riding this way back in 2002 and man it was such an awesome ride! before the virtual stuff.
I think they revamped how the train goes across the brake run into those two hills... I remember going to Six Flags 10 years ago and the value in the ride then was the loops. Now, completely agree with you... It's those two hills that are the highlight of the ride. I think the train is going down them faster then it used to.
Gotta love a good old Schwarzkopf loop. I always push my head against the seat and brace for it.
Shockwave aged so well and building the ride next to the freeway is great advertising.
Airtime Thrills and Theme Park Crazy: I agree with you.
This was my first looping coaster. After riding Mind Bender, this one is definitely better. I loved the airtime!
You definitely took the words out of my mouth regarding the ejector airtime....I rode this 2019. 💯💯 #underrated
The drops almost reminds me of the drops on Georgia Cyclone. They look shallow, but they deliver some great ejector!
Home Park. This is the second best ride in the park, and so easily missed. Its absolutely amazing.
the shine of the train at 0:30
Shockwave is such an underrated gem. The ejector you get is crazy.
One of the rides that is as old as I am..lol love it to this day..
Wow it's 43 years old and still as intense as ever. I wonder if it will make it to 50 years old and what kind of big celebration the park will have to celibate that milestone
The park did do some serious track replacement several years ago, and since it sits in a flood plain, it’s not going ANYWHERE.
@@KrisRowberry the good question though is with Schwartzkopf no longer in business who is supplying the Track for retracking and parts for the trains?
@@katerinakittycat3849 track has been manufactured mostly by local fabricators, just following the original blueprints. Trains will eventually wear out, but Gerstlauer has created new trains for SooperDooperLooper and they’re spectacular.
@@KrisRowberry it's funny though the new trains don't really look that much different shape wise
@@katerinakittycat3849 if it ain't broke don't fix it - look at Arrow looping trains!
Let’s not forget how smooth this ride is
When I was little, the first time I rode this the gs sucked me down towards the floor of the car (bent over the lap bar) .... right after I said my first curse word lol "what the f*** was that about" is what my mom said I screamed. But today I love this ride, when the park is emptier we ride it multiple times in a row
i cant agree yet because im going to six flags over texas in two days but ill be sure to ride in the back. Also i liked and subscribed
SFOT is a vastly underrated park. NTG, Shockwave, Mr Freeze and Titan are all 4 underrated rides.....probably because 3 of the 4 of these rides seem to be very inconsistent in the ride they offer from ride to ride. Shockwave is the one that I would say consistently impresses me. NTG can go from being boring one ride to me wondering if it's better than iRat on the next
Am I the only one that feels like the virtual reality era of Six Flags was a full on fever dream??
Looks pretty smooth
I love this ride I was scared of roller coasters then i went on new Texas giant and I liked that so I went on shockwave and I loved it
I do really enjoy this ride. As per usual (in my opinion) some really great coasters, or gems of ones get overlooked as parks grow and get "firsts" or big giants like size only matters, age, etc. I do actually prefer Mindbender at SFOG though. While I would prefer 2 back-to-back loops (when I first experienced one like that laser at dorney-idiots for removing that-I was shocked), I like the layout of how it basically goes back up to an impressive height and dives down insanely and actually through an underground area and over water as opposed to a parking lot view. Now that it'll be "Riddler Mindbender" I hope it's better than ever later this year whenever it reopens.
"mindbender or...mindbender" haha
also, what do you mean by "thrown out of your seat?" do you mean "yÖnked out of your seat?"
and the reason why the airtime is so strong is probably because of the length of the train and the profiling. yes, they're shallow, but they're ROUND, especially in the beginning. hope i get to ride this one day!
and is that lady at 5:07 literally holding an actual digital camera tf
lol
**B R U H !**
good shots of the ride offride bro!
*see's notification* *proceeds to watch video on shockwave lifthill*
Me: *interesting*
Shockwave is awesome. I've always acknowledged it as an airtime ride
the shockwave was the first inverted ride i ever went on. the first time i went on the ride i was 5 years old and i am thirteen now. i have not been on the ride since because i live in Europe now.
I'm so happy about this. The first time I rode Shockwave, I wasn't that impressed. This thing just keeps getting better with age. First time in the back row, I came off and said, "I'm NEVER riding this in the front again." It is exactly like you said it is. So happy this is at my home park. Awesome ride.
The drops on this coaster remind me of the first drop on that whale coaster in japan that you reviewed and fell in love with
Big Boom? It actually reminded me of that too! I feel like the airtime on these hills in the back were more sharp and sudden, but the steepness of Big Booms first drop makes it feel more forceful
@@CoasterStudios Yes, big boom. Couldn’t remember the name, just the logo. I havent ridden it, but the profiling looks similar but i could see how big boom is more forceful and less sudden
Sfot is my home park, and I am going to sfft tomorrow for the first time!
This coaster is the best!
Got to experience this on Sunday. In the back row. Holy s**t!
Short people love this ride. Us tall people get nothing out of this cuz our knees wedge us in the train so no airtime, just paintime.
Got to love those old school Schwarzkopf loopers with the INTENSE circular loops!
Had the company not gone under (from what I've read, Anton's business sense wasn't that good), you think they would have gotten into inverts/hypers?
Hope this gets a refurb from six flags soon. Does look in pretty good shape. Think it got repainted a few years ago. Did they only make two coasters with this track structure? It's called clothoid loops lol
This was my first upside down coaster!! I felt like my neck was gonna break because i didnt brace for the loops lol
Same counts for Nessie at Hansa Park, the drops (first and off the MCBR) aren't steep at all and don't look like much from the outside but still there's ejector galore in the back seat with lots of room - on one ride I would've been able to stick my fist vertical between my legs and the lap bar.
I don't know if Nessie's airtime compares to this (would love if you do a review of Nessie since you rode it in 2018), but I hope those classic Schwarzkopf coasters in the US stay for many years. I relly would like to ride Shock Wave and the others one day.
Every time I ride shockwave I always sit in the back. Best airtime in the park for sure.
Hay Tayler you should play a roller coaster simulation game
It’s also the most forceful coaster in the world at 5.9 g’s. South Africa’s tower of terror was reprofiled so it doesn’t hit as hard anymore.
I totally agree on my first time riding it I thought is was unsafe and when I did it I begged to do it again
How was that person at 1:14 in the front seat not holding onto anything on that drop is beyond me. I always have to brace myself for that drop right there.
I Love Shock Wave. The Loops Are Really Intense And The Airtime Is PAW-MAZING.
- SingleRail Industries ( Currently In Hospital )
Classic ride
I first road this when I was three!!!!!!
It is so crazy
It's weird to hear of a Schwarzkopf coaster that has ejector airtime, he usually only cares about making people black out with the positive Gs 😆
Damn this looks like it’s a really slept on ride! I gotta get out to Texas to ride this one💯.
