In italy you pay for lunch too in advance unless you're extra poor. I remember hearing a case of a child who wasn't given lunch because the family was behind on payments and the teachers scraped food to not let him go hungry and the parents argued it's incredibly disgusting to not feed a child because he's behind on paying for lunches. It wasn't even that the parents didn't care. They were struggling with money.
Sht like that should be illegal everywhere. I think if a child goes without food in school, whether they have money or not, should be reported as child abuse and child neglect against the school and the school should be fined 10,000x the cost of what it would have been for that $2.00 lunch... per child that goes without food.
I say this from someone who went hungry for a day because I wasn't informed by the lunch staff that I had ran out of money in my account the prior day. A third grader, an 8 year old. I went home not only with an empty stomach but a severe migraine because I had no food. My family was not happy about that, nor was I for having a migraine.
@@DSoSJohnHI completely agree, and those bag lunches they gave that was two slices of bread with a piece of cheese. Fucking awful. I think they should be fined far more for the neglect as a facility that's supposed to be dedicated to the well being and education of children. The fuck even is this world
Out of anything, tax payers shouldn't be against a single meal per kid being part of education budget. Not only the basic humanity of it, but it benefits everybody when people get good educations and having high energy and nutrition helps kids stay alert, concentrate, and better brain function in general.
That no longer happens in Massachusetts. Lunch is provided regardless of lunch debt and there are no longer any consequences if you cannot pay your lunch debt. If you can pay, pay, so they can fund those who can't. That was the federal policy in 2021 during Covid, but it was popular in Massachusetts, so the state raised taxes on the wealthy to pay for it. And my kids go to a public school that's as good as the great private school I went to as a kid despite living in a middle class town.
We've got plenty of problems with our political system, but it's still WAY better living in a blue state.
@Sam_on_RUclips I absolutely believe that, if this shit red state didn't keep us so broke we couldn't do anything about it, I'd absolutely move somewhere blue. I just wish I was more into politics and stuff earlier in life, like I'd always known red states were different, but I didn't really understand until I had people who rely on me and who's future I have to consider
fun fact on the amish post:
They are absolutely allowed to use technology, they just consider 99% of it non-essential. Example being that nowadays youre a LOT more likely to see them riding on their carriages and the carriages have actual, proper, up to code lights on them.
with the Amish its a case of necessity and not want
It also probably differs by community if I had to guess
It depends. There are different communities of Amish that have varying levels of acceptance.
The strictest groups don't allow any form of modern technology and tend to be the most isolationist, but many groups will allow somewhat modern technology so long as it's seen as beneficial for the community. So you can't have an individual cell phone, but some might have a communal pay phone (although I find that this is only becoming more common relatively recently). This tends to mean that relatively modern farm equipment is allowed, stand mixers, modern ovens, etc.
In the 90s, my recently divorced father and I, a preteen, were bacheloring it up. One holiday, my dad went to work and left me with $5 to get some McD's down the street for lunch. I found out, at lunch time, that the McD's was closed for the holiday. The only other restaurant open around our apartment complex was a Rafferty's, I think. Anyway, a mid-level, sit-down style restaurant. I went in and asked the hostess what I could get for $5. Those absolute legend young ladies were so sweet, got me a burger and fries to go, and sent me on my way, food in hand and $5 in my pocket. That was over 30 years ago and I still get choked up thinking of their kindness, feeding a hungry kid a $15 lunch who had but $5 to his name.
I imagine 1800-era media piracy being like, a moderately skilled pianist from a wealthier family that attends the newest concerts regularly, who then goes out and plays these new tunes by ear for cheap.
that's actually how a song from the catholic church got released publicly, mozart heard it and then recreated it by ear because the church didn't want it getting out to the public
3:01 - I’m 73 and still drink milk with my supper. For years my breakfast every morning was 4 eggs, 4 slices of bacon, 4 pieces of toast slathered with real butter and two cups of coffee. My doctor says I have the heart of a 30 year old.
I’m still surprised that he didn’t ask me where I got it from.

It doesn't sound that bad. I've seen worse pregnancy cravings (my mom knows a woman who had DETERGENT as a pregnancy craving and the baby came out fine). You can eat banana with a lot of foods.
@GBLtheMOTH
That sounds exactly like an old TV commercial for Gain laundry detergent. Only the wife never actually consumed the detergent, instead the husband drove to the store to get the bottle of detergent to bring home for his wife just so she could smell it. "My wife had a pregnancy craving for the scent of Gain laundry detergent," was a line in that commercial.
Also, having cravings for inedible items is known as Pica and gets it's name from a bird species, the Eurasian magpie (the formal Latin name for that species is Pica pica). This bird has a reputation for eating unusual objects.
And this disorder is seen in people that have iron deficiency, certain mental disorders and people that are pregnant.
I feel like we need to get rid of the mentality that you can’t like something because “it’s for babies.” I had so much of feeling that as a kid to the point where it sometimes made me feel shame for liking things or having liked things in the past. And getting shamed for watching or even enjoying something because “it’s for babies”- often based on an arbitrary standard by people who don’t know what they’re talking about. I remember getting picked on in Grade 4 by classmates who were convinced I was too old to enjoy the Muppets.
My thought now if someone were to say “it’s for babies” is to say something like “what’s your point?” So what if you’re not the intended demographic for a show or a book or whatever? If it’s well-made that shouldn’t matter. If anything, a show/book managing to unexpectedly find an audience outside it’s intended demographic just means its really good.
And hey, a well-made kids show can be great for de-stressing. Think about it, they’re usually short, have stories that are easy to follow, and even if there’s a large cast overall, the core group of characters is usually pretty small and easy to keep track of. It’s a nice change in an era where nearly every non-kids show is trying to be the next Game of Thrones.

Wait is it not normal to go through 1-2 gallons of milk in a week? (4 people in my house including me, we love milk)
I had to stop buying milk because I couldn't even drink a quart before it expired. I miss the magic of cereal before I knew that 3g protein per serving is abysmal and the ONE brand that had an actual meal's worth got shrinkflationed and now I have nothing
I be drinking that milk because it tastes good, have it with peanut butter and crackers, perfect. I also like it because it makes PETA mad.

The Australian Prime Minister who famously went missing was *_Harold Holt_* . He disappeared on *_December 17, 1967_* , while swimming at Cheviot Beach near Portsea, Victoria. Holt was a strong swimmer, but rough conditions and powerful ocean currents were present that day.
Despite an extensive search involving police, navy divers, and helicopters, his body was never found. His disappearance sparked numerous conspiracy theories, including speculation about a possible defection to China or abduction by a submarine, but the most widely accepted explanation is that he drowned.
Holt’s disappearance remains one of Australia's most intriguing political mysteries.
see - the government kinda cared, but nobody actually cared. we just accepted he defected to atlantis, and that they've evaded discovery for so long that there's no way we could find him.
And they made a swimming pool in his name. Australians know what's up.

9:33 from what I've seen, it's not that they think the seasoning has salt content or anything, it's that if it's seasoned and actually flavorful it might tempt them to eat more which is a totally healthy non-disordered relationship to have with food
6:38 - Not So Fun Fact - When if you're in the hospital and they offer to give you an OTC medication, like Tylenol or Benadryl they never charge you for a single dose, they will in fact charge you for the entire bottle, so you can (and should) ask them to give you that bottle, since you paid for it. And many people don't know this so if you tell them, "hey I know I'm going to be charged for the bottle of this so can you please go ahead and give it to me to take home." They will more often than not do so.
The "health care system" in this country is f*cking awful. 🤬
I like the tip. Saving that in my head for a situation that calls for it.
22:18 isn’t the reason why medical professionals ask about when the last menstrual period is that some of the medications, and diagnostics could lead to birth defects or a miscarriage, so they have to make sure the patient isn’t pregnant before proceeding.
I'm sorry, but whether or not I'm pregnant shouldn't matter when I have multiple broken limbs. Give me fn morphine.
That's the legitimate intention for it, yeah. Unfortunately, most doctors use that question as an excuse to brush off a woman's symptoms by blaming their issues on their menstrual cycles and NOT do any tests.
So, it's a valid medical question. It's just used the wrong way on purpose by a lot of ignorant doctors.
They'll often do pregnancy tests if thats a concern. There is a few but not really many commonly prescribed medications.
Im pretty sure they ask that because of how often they use a period as a reason to explain away issues. Its why endometriosis has like a 5+ year diagnosis time from first seeing a dr for help.
3:36 Woo, a Warrior Cats mention! 🐈
I just got into this series after hearing about the series’ 20th anniversary 2 years ago, and I’m hooked!
And now, the series turns 22 today, so happy 22nd birthday Warrior Cats!
The series is still going quite strong too, as the 1st book of the 9th arc (Changing Skies), The Elders’ Quest, just came out recently, and there’s plenty more to come too like some more graphic novels and other books aside from the main arc books!
Cool! I love that series too! I'm almost done with the second arc, but I've stopped for a while as its 90% love drama.
Oh nice!
I’m currently almost through book 4 of Dawn of the Clans, the arc that’s quickly become another one of my favorites alongside Omen of the Stars!
"Who wouldn't think someone is the one if they see them going to town on a rotisserie chicken?"
I feel more validated by this than you could possibly comprehend.
11:25 Hotels that aren't often, or ever, fully booked will sometimes stretch your checkout several hours if you need it and just take the room off available to rent that day and schedule it to housekeep the following day. I've worked at a couple years ago. One time we let people stay in their room until 7 pm because they had an evening flight rather than them having to drag their luggage around killing time in the city. That sort of stuff helps bring back customers and they'll spread the word to family and friends.
Dude robins dr house impression is really good
1:19 had me do some research and it turns out that while they wouldn't have seen the actual artists themselves play it, the music notes itself were disseminated amongst the public and if you had a piano, or if you were in town square they were often shows played in town squares or churches that had low fee to free admission. Their people even poor people, were able to hear pieces of music. Generally not a whole sonnet, but pieces to know whether or not they like the song. It would often be played by amateur two intermediate artists, or if you had someone with magical Talent and your family they could play it or you could play it yourself as pianos were fairly common
12:45 the more accurate assessment is that french beat up english and forcefed it a bunch of words, then english went and graverobbed from latin to try and sound cooler, then forgot to update spellings when basically every vowel in the entire language changed
16:30 you send in a blank doc or slideshow to give yourself some extra time and when teach sends “this one’s blank”, you send back “oh it must have glitched out. One second. Here’s the finished doc” worked many times for me in high school.
Do you think it’d work in college? I don’t plan to ever be in that situation, but any tool in the toolbox would be appreciated
1:16- I volunteer at an art reuse charity near me and we often get vintage items donated. I mentioned this because we recently got some Edwardian Era (1901-1910) books donated that were full of sheet music. You could literally just go and buy books of sheet music of the most popular songs at the time, kinda like buying one of those "Top Hits" CDs back in the early 00's. To answer Robin's question, yes you would have to go hear it performed, but it was easy to buy the sheet music, you really just needed to find and pay someone talented enough to play it properly (not an easy task with Moonlight Sonata).
Sin wise,: Yes. It would be. As according to the bad book: You can *only* sploodge inside a *fertile* vagloober. Lest you incur the wrath of göd for "spilling seed".
I found the solution for the self driving car dilemma. Rather than have an idiot determine where it goes or have it drive itself, how about we have a bunch of stations around the country with really long cars that are driven by specialists, and to prevent traffic have them be really fast and be set on predetermined rails. That way we could travel the entire country in just a few hours.
Wait...
11:58 Oh Man! When I tell you how absolutely unexpected and accurate the Dr House imitation was!!! Had it on repeat! 🤌🏻😂
"A worm driving an apple" is a beautiful and powerfully evocative phrase because I know the *exact* image they're talking about and I love it.
Driverless cars set off a war in me between my love of science, technology, and progress, and my deep seated trust issues.
Medical care non-system! Yes! I've been saying that for years. There IS no U.S. medical system any more than y'all having a caviar system. You have medical ANARCHY.
My (partial) theory on the sleeping at night versus sleeping during the day is that at night, you feel pressured to sleep because your *supposed* to sleep at night and that pressure keeps you awake but during the day that pressure is *gone* and that's so freeing it lets you relax.
driverless cars are iffy because - what if you need to override the car's algorithms?
@@cewla3348 Oh totally. That has to be the first condition of driverless cars is that you can take over at any point, always.
2:25 someone may have gotten to the bottom of this.
And by someone I mean the prime minister and by this i mean the ocean.
Cool for Robin that he doesn't need a self-driving car. As a blind person (using a screenreader to read/write online) I'd really like the ability to have some degree of independence in my transportation. Same with how he condemns all AI, but AI image recognition is the one thing keeping me from opening a big can of cat food when I mean to open up a can of something else entirely with which to make dinner. That and many of its other disability-focused uses that get ignored when people like this just blanket disapprove of things 'cause "I don't need it." I'm glad you don't, I hope you never have to end up in a place where you need it, and if you ever are, I hope more thoughtful minds than yours have prevailed in making such things available, because even if you don't think anyone should have a thing that you don't need, you are still a human and I hope you would be treated with the compassion and empathy you should show others. Anyway, sorry for the rant, I honestly do enjoy your content and narration style, but that's just one point that keeps popping up in the videos you narrate, and since this won't really get seen by anyone, it's mostly just me venting a recurring frustration in vane. So have a lovely day, keep making great videos, and just consider that a world of others' needs exists beyond your own.
19:11 at my 13th birthday party we literally summoned my grandma in a seance with a bunny statue, bell, and necklace. we asked her questions with a magic 8 ball and chanted movie quotes in a circle while holding hands. we also ate an entire watermelon
The fact you know doctor house's candence enough to make it a genuine impression is ridiculous
20:00 Nuh-no no no, I'm on Scotty's side here. If I'm going to the beach, I want that natural seaside ambience, public space or not. If you want music, either save it for the car drive, or wait until sunset to light a bonfire and pull out an acoustic guitar LIKE A CIVILIZED PERSON 🙄🙄
FWIW, when they mentioned a worm driving an apple, I immediately pictured Richard Scarry's "Lowly Worm" hauling ass and looking at the reader with well-deserved self-satisfaction.

7:27 I figured out that the best way to avoid low quality is to buy the fruits that have been sorted, peeled, chopped, etc, by someone else and put in containers. It's more expensive but in over ten years of purchases from the grocery store across the street from me I've yet to get a bad piece of fruit. Robin, being on the top floor of a building as it collapses tends to be a lot less bad for your health than being in the floors below it.
Also, you fall asleep more easily at certain times of the day because that's how your circadian rhythm is wired. Supposedly things like fasting can help reset your sleep schedule, but those kinds of things don't tend to work for 100% of people, so it's a dice roll.

For the fun kids books: If adults don't read them, that's how you get TERRIBLE interpretation movies that basically read the back sleeve and said "Yeah I'll do that". That's how you end up with the Live Action Avatar the Last Airbender
People with ZERO comprehension of the source material making their version of it. Also... also ... what age do they think the writers of those books are? It's not kids writing for each other. Someone who reads them regularly can probably write them better.
For the cake videos: Depends. Some make a totally edible cake with a reasonable layer of fondant. Some even make TASTY fondant.
I love that Robin forgot that sheet music was a thing in the 1800s.
unfortunately sheet music is only useful to people who can read/play music. We can’t all be Saliari in Amadeus.
@@TheLaundryLinewell, that's true, but you also need to take to accounts that in the past learning to play musical instruments was one of the very common skills. Y.A books - more real, but still fun and whimsical
adult books - very grounded, but it's for a grounded audience

Is no one gonna talk about that AWESOME DR HOUSE IMPRESSION???
1:14 basically, you'd buy the sheet music and play it on the piano, if you had one. Rich folks usually had a piano, and sometimes farmers pooled their money to acquire a piano for the community. Sometimes pubs or ale houses had them. You could pay a fee like a subscription service so that a printing company would send you sheet music from either the most recent big artists, or you could mail in requests for specific songs if you knew them.
Don't know WHY i know that, but it's how ordering music and listening to it at home used to work. Pretty convoluted. Imagine not knowing anyone who could play, or getting the wrong music? Or being a servant to a fancy lady who played the piano and was nice enough to let you listen, but you have different taste in music? You prefer Beethoven but she likes Schubert but you find his arrangement too fanciful and inane. Oh, old timey problems.

The fact that my mother forced me to drink whole milk and eat cranberry sauce in the same sitting says a lot about her character in retrospect.
In Denmark, there's actually a law saying that you can only do a full trip around a roundabout before you have to take the exit you actually had to take. It's not particularly enforced, but it's there just in case someone wants to try doing hundreds or thousands of trips in a roundabout. There's nothing legally stopping you from just ping-ponging between two adjacent roundabouts for days on end, such as near a highway, if that's what you want, though.

4:28 Aw c'mon Robin, the comedy gold opportunity was in the dig about Apple products becoming inefficient and forcing users to upgrade, ripe for milking. You got distracted by the driverless car issue 😆
I don't want a driverless Apple car.
I want an Apple car driven by a worm.
17:02 But getting a kite, ball, frisbee, etc. off a roof for some distraught kids is somehow life affirming.
14:50 do people from the US think other countries get lunch for free at school? It's just not the norm for the school to be expected to make lunch and our parents (or us when we're older) to make it in the morning/night before. There's normally a store but only the rich (and starved for parental love) kids eat from there everyday
Why isn't school lunch free in other places?
@@Mar-zw3eu because I guess generally other places in the world don't tolerate getting price gouged for basic necessities causing some children to rely on free school lunch programs, who would've thunk it?
7:16 me and my significant other do this, we were not caught for 2 years
8:39 i giggled at this because the same thing happened at my brothers funeral, just with a different song. apparently he liked astronaut in the ocean at first whenever it came out but he was a huge fan of juicewrld and lil peep so instead of playing any of those artists they played that one song because he liked it 5 or 6 years ago😂
i watched 20 seconds of this video, im going to continue watching the video
rainbow fairy book >>>>
you CANNOT EVER change my mind!
I'm gonna have a motion activated recorder in my earn so when you shake it, you hear me say "f*** off I'm sleeping"
Alright. I’m gonna need an hour of Robin’s House impression.
Harold Holt went for a swim in the ocean and was never seen again. Its likely he was taken by a shark considering where we swam.
He does live on in slang in Australia. Doing the Holt is slang for leaving or disappearing from an event or situation.
For example your at a boring work event. You want to sneak away without specifically telling your bosses bye. You might say to a co-worker 'hey im going to do a holt'
Though it isn't very used anymore and been overtaken by more modern slang
The horse postman "hello good sir! I john the postman of the cities postal service, and i have a letter for thee"
When I cark it, I want the doors chained shut, the rabbi to put in some earplugs, and Tom Lehrer's "We Will All Go Together When We Go" played as a timer counts down.
I still get WAY too many ads for "Got Milk" and they PISS ME OFF. Like bro nobody wants to see cartoony milk glasses twerking- It's, quite frankly, disgusting.
Fun fact: I often communicate through Google Docs!
Eyelashes are the only thing that get in your eyes because they block everything else (as someone who plucked all my eyelashes on impulse). Survivorship bias FTW, baby!
I SOOOO agree on the Victorian writing!!! It needs to be FANCY!!!
16:30 During covid I would turn in corrupted word files and the teachers would give me from 2 to 4 days to "redo" the assignment (online school lasted 2 years in my country)
Milk was so important, they added flavors and 32 grams of sugar. I remember we weren’t allowed to exit the cafeteria line until we took our milk.
one of my favorite books growing up was. " kai mayer: das wolken volk. " only exists in german and i think maybe frenchh
Is "Das wolken volk" The cloud people? my german isn't very good I knew das and volk but didn't know wolken so I had to google it. It has a cute title 😊
You reminded me of our old tradition when we were a family (parents divorced nothing scary happened). But on Sundays we used to go to the mall or ikea or the airport as a family outing. Then before 2011 when the place got flooded and just shut down permanently, on our way back my parents would go rent a movie and we had movie afternoon. Dad would hand the movie back later before dinner. This place was totally automated too. It wasn't a blockbuster because we're Italians but it was such a fun time. Sometimes they'd pick movies for all of us and sometimes movies that were more mature. Like action films type mature. I know the biggest library in town has movie rentals but god I wish this could come back as a thing. We might go with mom and see how it works as I believe it's not managed by the library system in my city but self managed.
there are different varieties of apples that are different on purpose. you just have to find one that you like. personally i hugely recommend sweetango
so the sleeping thing is biology. ironically related to that meme in this same video a few minutes ago, about people not working in december :P Humans are pack creatures. and half of us, have a circadian rhythm designed for being awake during the day, and half of us have one designed for being awake at night. this was to protect from predators. unfortunately it is an evolutionary thing that we got accidentally stuck with.
On the roundabout one; here in the UK, the limit is technically twice fully around before you can be ticketed. Of course, you'd likely go more than two times around before anyone even noticed you were doing loops, and a police officer would have to see you doing it. Punishment? Probably a fine and points on your license for erratic driving.
Me: YOUVE BECOME THE VERY THING YOU SWORE TO DESTROY!
My eyelash: EYE HATE YOU!!!
13:44 on a surface level, probably lust.
If history is to be believed one of the more severe offenses as the church thought it was not just being lustful but also ‘wasting the seed’.
They even owned “pleasure houses”.
22:15 OH. MY. GOD. this happened to me the other day 😭😭 i passed out in a store and we went to the doctor, they asked if i was on my period, told me to drink more water, gave me an advil, and sent me off. Turns out i have heart issues and that was the real cause. ✌️
I'm a postal worker. Many of our routes are walking routes, and I can tell you, the distance would be nothing to a horse. The problem is not having enough room to put everything. But if there were no packages, this would 100% be doable.
