I have always loved this song and Betty Hutton. Being a sewing teacher it is one I have told my students about for years. It's great to find it here and I am forwarding it to all my Sewing Buddies!! Thanks!
This clip is a GEM! Don't think I ever saw "Perils of Pauline", but have seen this clip numerous times and figure it must have been in a tribute documentary or compilation. Betty was BRILLIANT and so expressive. Frank Faylen also Brilliant as the hard boss. Particularly loved the outdated slang used. Funny, I had forgotten about the term 'talking through your hat', but my Dad often used it. Thanks for posting this great clip.
That's my Model 31-15 that Betty's working at! Or it could be... cool to see a workroom set up from the day... my machine is dated 1927. Still sews a very pretty stitch. I use it exclusively for quilting work.
I saw "The Perils of Pauline" with my mother at Fairy Air Dome in St. Louis in 1947. The Fairy Air Dome was folding chairs and a portable movie screen in the back yard of the Fairy Theatre on Easton Avenue. People who lived in the flats around the theater watched the movie for free from their porches. When rain started, we moved inside and the film was being shown at the same spot as it was being shown outside. Hutton was terrific. I was seven years old and still remember this flick.
Wow that was pretty cool! Thank you so much for posting this... I will make sure to embed this into my Quilting Blog. It's a reminder, that sewing is and hasn't been a blessing to all of us and wasn't always a pleasure.
i have two sewing machines. a brother LS 590 and a singer merritt 3343c. I got my merritt in a thrift stores. it was made back in the 90's and i bought it two weeks after my LS 590. I love them both. I now have to memorize this song and sing it.. lol
My aunt used to sing this to me when I was very little. It used to make me laugh. I'd forgot all about it until now when it all came back to me 40 years later. Now get this... In 1974 I started work for Courtholds the clothing makers as a trainee engineer. And In 1990 I started my own Industrial Sewing Machine supply and service business and i'm still at it.
i'm still trying to find the bad words. there's no swearing, there aren't any suggestions. if u're worried about the "bobbin' and bobbin'" part, that's a part of a sewing machine. so i don't know what u r talking about
my grandma LOVES this song. She used t sing it to me when I was a little girl. I like the last part, but i wish it was also in the discription. :( "I have a boss, he looks like a horse. His names ____ _____ ." what was the one i'll kick him where it hurts?

I was born in the late fall of 1978. The Very Pretty and Extremely Talented Betty Hutton is an icon!

Epic! I love my sewing machine too!
She sings, she dances, she's the female version of Danny Kaye (read--comic genius), boisterous, kooky, glamours--did it all, Betty did.
i love this film xx
Love this song :) so cute
