- This week I present to you the full Drive & Sound test of the 2014/2015 Volkswagen Golf 7 GTE with the twin engine concept delivering 204 hp and up to 350 Nm of torque. While the 1.4 TSI with 150 hp is already not really slow, they added the 102 hp electric motor out of the e-Golf to make this a prober GT(E). As you can see, this car really pulls once you put it in "B" (Boost?) and GTE-mode. I don't really know why it is significantly faster than what VW claims but it also feels like more than 200 hp! Especially as I tested the Golf 7 GTD and GTI (220hp) I can tell that this hybrid is very close to the GTI! Besides that you get an "E-Mode" that let's you accelerate pretty decent up to 130 km/h and drive totally quiet in cities....I personally like it! On top of that you get the quick shifting DSG (6-speed) that also shifts in E-Mode...very cool! Please make sure to LIKE / COMMENT & SUBSCRIBE!

Automann-TV hab ihn ausprobiert, war echt cool ,der einzige sportliche (alltags-)Hybrid den ich kenne. Hätte ich sowas cooles wie eine Ladestation in der Nähe würde ich ihn mir holen.
Quick tip, once you get to about the 170km/h mark, you see the "boost" go down to using half of it, if you want to maintain the boost for longer, let go of gas for a bit and then go again, this resets it to using it fully again.

Couple days ago I saw this car in person for the first time. I immediately went to google since I never even knew that hybrid Golf existed and surely I was not disappointed! This car is just awesome! Very economic, compact, stylish and the perfomance is outstanding! I would definitely replace my ol' Golf 5 with 1.9 tdi for this. Even tho Im big fan of VW diesels, this one is exception. I never knew that hybrid car would be one of my dream cars 😅

I have read else where that the electric power output is 100% in EV mode, but only 50% in GTE mode, presumably to keep under the DSG's max 400 Nm load limit making for the 204 hp output. But the Mk 8 GTE seems to have boosted that to 100% all the time as it is good for 245 hp in GTE mode with the same output from the ICE.
I see that running 98 petrol and a full battery people are getting 235 hp on the dyno.
Sure wish this car was coming to the US. Much prefer the Golf to the larded-up A3 E-tron.

mabey a little late comment, but the normal engine combined with the electric motor gives you 204 hp but what if the electric motor is out fuel does the car still produce that 204 hp or only 150 hp from the normal engine?
Technically yes. But the EMS (Energy Management System) is trying to keep the charge of the battery at an minimum. So that you always have the ability to use the E Power.

Hi, weißt du wie das is ... wenn man mit dem E losfährt und irgendwann den tsi braucht ... wird der tsi ausm Kalten gezogen oder wird der durch ne Heizung oder abwärme mitgeheizt. Denn aus der Kalten und volle leistung is ja nich so gut.
Grundlegend wird der sicher schon etwas vorgewärmt und wenn man im Hybrid Modus fährt läuft der ja auch immer mal wieder mit und wärmt sich so langsam auf wenn du normal fährst. Wenn man im E-Modus fährt bis die Batterie leer ist und dann voll durchlatscht wenn der Motor zum ersten Mal anspringt ist das sicherlich nicht ganz optimal. Aber darauf kann man ja achten:)

Wie läuft das eigentlich mit der Heizung in dem Auto? Ist das Motorwärme? Wenn ich bei kalten Temperaturen viel Kurzstreckenbetrieb habe , z.B. Stadtfahrten, muss ich dann trotzdem den Benziner mitlaufen lassen, damits warm wird, bzw die Scheiben nicht beschlagen oder zufrieren? Gerade für Stadtfahrten wäre der reine Elektrobetrieb ja ideal. Im Sommer wäre dann die Frage, wie die Klimaanlage betrieben wird, elektrisch oder über den Verbrenner?
Bullitt Heizung geht theoretisch auch rein im E-Modus, wird sogar noch schneller warm. Wenn der Motor läuft wird zusätzlich auch noch die Abwärme genutzt. Dadurch, dass du die Temperatur im Innenraum über die e-Remote App schon vor der Abfahrt regulieren kannst hat quasi jeder GTE eine Standheizung bzw. Standklimatisierung. Hängt das Auto am Netz wirkt sich das noch nicht einmal auf die Batterieladung aus. Technik ist wohl eine elektrische Wärmepumpe...

Also wie ist das möglich, dass der GTE in 6,3 Sekunden auf 100 ist. Laut Volkswagen braucht der 7,4 oder 7,6 Sekunden dafür?
Wie war der durchschnittliche Verbrauch und wie weit kam man damit denn rein elektrisch?
Also ich denk ein Punkt ist, dass ich hier immer nach Tacho messe und VW und Magazine natürlich die GPS-Geschwindigkeiten angeben, diese Möglichkeit habe ich nicht. Allerdings kann man die Beschleunigung ja schon mit meinen anderen Tests von Golf 7 GTD, GTI und Golf 7 R vergleichen und da ist der GTE wirklich sehr flott im Vergleich. Verbrauch war bei meiner Fahrweise am Ende wohl so um die 7 Liter auf der Autobahn, über Land eher um die 4-5 Liter. Elektrisch kommt man realistisch gesehen nur so 20 km weit, aber das pendeln in er Stadt reicht der Akku schon mal bis zu 2 Tage, ohne das der TSI läuft.

Ok das bedeutet also, dass ich von den 6,3 Sekunden ausgehen darf richtig? Sind Sie auch einfach mal ganz moderat im Hybridmodus gefahren? Wenn ja wie war dann der Verbrauch? bla blabla Nach GPS wären es dann vielleicht nur 6,9 sec. gewesen, aber das ist immer noch schneller als die relativ konservative Werksangabe. Die meiste Zeit bin ich im Hybrid-Modus "Hybrid Auto" oder "Battery Hold" gefahren. "Battery Charge" macht wenig Sinn und kostet viel Sprit. Wie gesagt. Verbrauch bei reiner Autobahnfahrt liegt so bei 7 Liter, auf der Landstraße und in der Stadt wo der E-Motor häufig läuft auch teilweise unter 4 Liter / 100 km. Im Schnitt würde ich mit rund 6 Liter rechnen wenn man die Batterie häufig and der Steckdose lädt vielleicht auch etwas weniger. Bei Fragen am besten über die Facebook Seite gehen und dort eine Nachricht schicken!

Wahrscheinlich ist die Werksangabe nur im "Sport" Modus und nicht im Boost-Modus mit E-Motor und BEnzinmotor zugleich....könnte sein. Diese Beschleunigung ist eben nicht beliebig oft wiederholbar sondern geht hoch wenn die Batterie leer ist.
Das mit der Batterie kenne ich aber dann dürfte die Systemleistung von 204 PS auch nicht angegeben werden. D.h. man ist auch mit dem E-tron der auf der selben Basis beruht knapp so schnell wie ein GTI von 0-100? LG

It's almost disappointing how quiet these electric engines are... They can have such a great sound!
lgyouanditv. | Watch different. Maybe it doesn't come across in the video as much, but they do sound quite unique. Not at lower speeds but if your really mash the throttle. The "uuuuuiiiiiiii" sound and the parallel acceleration is really really cool.
I just bought this car. Is there a limit of how much you can drive in GTE mode? Is it until the battery runs out?

Der hat vielleicht nicht den geilsten Sound (bei einem so kleinen Motor kein Wunder), dennoch ist der GTE wirklich sehr beeindruckend, was die Performance angeht.
How does it feel in real situations compared to the GTD? Choosing between another GTD, a GTI or this new GTE in the summer. :)
At low rpms the GTD still feels strongest but it has a delay until the full pull is available. The GTE has this instant power delivery that only an electric Motor can provide. The peak power is even more than a GTI, but its only availble for a short time in the GTE....I guess you have to test drive one;)

Jsah11 If you can afford the GTE get one. The difference between the GTE and GTi i minimal - in real world driving. The advantages of the GTE far outweigh the GTi/GTD in real world - no pollution charges in certain cities. Small commutes can be done on E power only (cities and journies of 25 miles/44km max).
Wenn der Akku des GTE mal leer sein sollte, krieg ich dann immer noch volle leistung im gte oder hab ich dann nur noch den tsi??
GluboGrine Ganz leer ist der Akku nie, da bleibt immer Power für 2-3 km drin oder einen kleinen Zwischenspurt. Das heißt man bekommt im GTE-Modus (zumindest kurzfristig) immer volle Leistung.
wie war es für dich beim fahren? hattest du merkliche leistungslücken aufgrund der abhängigkeit des akkus? (ich mein sonst wär es ja nur ein läppischer tsi)

Nein, das Auto fährt sich im normalen Modus eigentlich wie ein TSI mit 150 PS und hat halt zwei Stufen. Einmal in den E-Modus für absolut lautloses, aber eben noch recht zügiges Fahren, und einmal in den GTE Modus für wirklich sportliche Beschleunigung und sehr kernigen Sound. Nicht vergessen darf man aber, dass der Sound beim GTE so gut wie auschließlich im Innenraum erzeugt wird und außen "genau" wie ein 1.4 TSI klingt, der GTI und der R haben andere Abgasanlagen um auch außen einen dumpfen Klang zu erzeugen. Im Innenraum ist der GTE fast auf Golf R Niveau, aber außen eben weit entfernt. Wenn du auf das reine elektische Fahren stehst und ein absolut besonderes Fahrzeug haben willst (mal 5 Tage ohne Verbrennungsmotor fahren oder so) dann nimm den GTE. Wenn du nur auf die Kosten schaust und eigentlich einen coolen "Sportwagen" willst, dann nimmt den GTI, der hat deutlich mehr Emotionen auf der sportlichen Seite.

hey great video (as always) i was wondering whether the sound you hear at 2:54 for example is from the engine or coming out of the speakers. and if it's coming out of the speakers does it sound realistic? thanks for answering and keep up the great work
Very late answer, but I just saw this comment. There is a little module under the hood, in front of the windshield that amplifies the resonance coming from the engine and creates this sound, so it is not actually coming from the speakers, at least in VW's case (BMW uses speakers for example).
I personally really like it, it does not sound fake and it is not as loud as it sounds in the video, it is more sublime but very nice. Also, this only works if you are in GTE mode, so if you switch to just basic hybrid, you only hear the engine and it is very quiet at lower rpms, and in EV mode, fully silent.
Die leise reine Elektro-Beschleunigung ist schon faszinierend. Vielleicht setzt sich der Hybrid bald stärker durch. Es ist komisch, aber im Moment hab ich noch zu viele Vorurteile und würde einen reinen Benziner vorziehen. Vielleicht sollte ich mal einen guten Hybrid wie den GTE fahren...
Andreas Schmitz Jap, unbedingt mal selber testen, das hat auch mich im Endeffekt überzeugt. Auch wenn mein nächstes Auto wohl keine GTE wird (habe einfach das falsche Fahrprofil) bin ich von dem Auto schon sehr angetan gewesen und habe es seither vielen Kollegen und Freunden empfohlen....und ich werde nicht von VW bezahlt oder gesponsert;)

Daweisstebescheid Addieren kann man die Leistungen von E-Motor und Benzin-Motor wohl nicht, da die Leistung nie 100% gleichzeitig anliegt bzw. anliegen kann. Allerdings gibt die Kombination kurzfristig "gefühlte" 250 PS und 350 Nm Leistung ab, der Unterschied zu einem "normalen" 1.4 TSI mit 150 PS ist eklatant.

+Vitor Rocha Not quite no, the estimates for the GTI are conservative as well. Car & Driver mag got 5.6 seconds with the DSG and 5.8 with the manual.

I'd say so. The tuning company APR suggests that the GTI is underrated on their website though.

No, probably about 1.5seconds slower to 62mph/100kph. also weighs about 90kg more due to the batteries. cool car though!

mlsterlous VW claims up to 50 kilometers pure electric with a fully charged battery (same as the A3 e-tron). I never managed to get more than 43 km distance on the clock and depended on your driving style this goes down pretty quickly!
where are the freakn 60 or 80 kWh battery packs... WHY these freakn tiny battery packs that only provide 60 to 100km...

Selbst im GTE Modus ist die Lenkung weich und ohne Gefühl.
Ja er liegt satt auf der Straße... Aber es fühlt sich einfach trotzdem nicht sportlich an !
Vielleicht ist auch das hohe Gewicht Schuld.
Alles in allem trotzdem ein toller sparsamer Alltagswagen der bei Bedarf zumindest auf der Autobahn mal ein wenig sportlich sein kann.
Nur der Preis ist happig.

The cool sound when in gte mode, is it just inside in the speakers or is it also from the outside from exhaust or something like it ? Your info is also wrong about gte mode, its not 150 hp tsi +102 hp e-motor, its 204 in total. so its 150 hp tsi and 54 hp e-motor
the e-motor and the tsi have about the same hp =102 hp per motor
