What has M&S done wrong, the hat thing has been blown way out of proportion
There is nothing wrong with the M&S advert. Absolutely blown out of proportion by people who are void of humor. It’s fun way of saying do what makes you happy at Christmas (making costumes, baking etc) and don’t feel pressure / anxious about doing stuff you don’t want to do. Some people love writing cards, others don’t. Some people like playing games, some don’t. I don’t get the hate, people are seeing something that isn’t there.
Asda has done a Christmas and right. Marks and Spencer really dropped the ball by disrespecting Christmas by not even mentioning the word Christmas in their ad

To start with the song:"I would do anything for love, but I won't do that."
That ends with a negative; if M&S asks you NOT to buy their stuff, why then go to that store anyway?
If the commercial had inverted the message, as in: "we know that Christmas time can be stressful, so don't play on the chess board if you don't want to, but just enjoy our quality cheese board!", it would end on a more positive note.
Aside from that: ASDA's cheese looks marvelous, I must say! 😊

Nice and simple, it has the Christmas spirit whilst not making it emotional. It feels nostalgic and sentimental in a warm and happy way!
