    16:57 The word you're looking for is "Dynamic Music/Soundtrack" It's when the soundtrack seamlessly transitions into different variants of the same tune but with different jingles depending on what you're doing/where you are. This isn't unique to just Banjo, the most similar in style to Banjo would be Jak & Daxter 1 and 2. But there are many forms of Dynamic or Adaptive music.
    LucasArts 90's games had their own system to make music match what's going on onscreen. Even Red Dead Redemption has it's own form of Dynamic music.

    • @valettashepard909
      @valettashepard909 5 лет назад

      Indeed. It’s a fairly common practice these days, if you extract audio from a bunch of different games you’ll find that the tracks are composed of a number of layers that fade in and out depending on the action onscreen.

    • @RyoLeo
      @RyoLeo 5 лет назад

      Valetta Shepard true but not many games have a different mix depending weither are underwater and a lot of games very poorly executed their dynamic soundtrack take gta v online a lot of them are pretty well made but almost all of them are base around how much action is going on aka enemies attacking you so during long fire fight or long driving you get the same loop repeated over and over again until you want to turn it off entirely lucky when driving you got the radio but it’s also an issue in police chases where it will always turn off the radio any time you get inside a car and it doesn’t help the grind were if you are doing the same job over and over and the action dies almost as quickly as it starts and it’s nothing but the same droning loop over and over again. And while that mostly an issue of simplified design there’s also game with much more complex systems that also suffer from the ten second loops. Nfs carbon(a game I beat like seven times) has a dynamic soundtrack that factors in your car type rival car types, your podium position in the race and how close to the finish you/others are. So beside minor flaws is pretty cool but it suffers to if you are “too good” aka stay in first place for most of the race. And while the soundtrack does change over the course of the race from the last factor but you can only hear the the orchestra so many times before it’s gets repetitive and if you use the same type of car though out the campaign(which the game encourages) and take down each gang one at a time you’ll hear a lot of the same stuff over and over again. So yeah dynamic music is a thing but not in the same way act man describe it where not only each level has its own soundtrack but depending on where you are at in the level the soundtrack remix itself for that area I mean I think destiny 2 had a dynamic soundtrack but it goes from low energy to high energy depending on if you are in a firefight or not but doesn’t change if you are fighting a different faction, is inside a building or on a rooftop it just loads up one song and switch between the low and the high doesn’t change different tunes of the instrument or any of that stuff it’s pre made loops but having a different version play while under water where you can tell it’s similar but the changes make it fit better under water image if gta changes things depending if you are in a car or not or better yet how damge you are or if you are in the air compared to on the ground it all similar sounding but the difference enable it to fit more into what you are doing/where you are it would make cops chases more interesting compared to what system they have now now what I imagine what bajoo uses is different midi modes depending on the areas and all it does is change the order for the different areas which allows for seamless transition unlike modern games which used would often used one file and loop certain parts and have transitions to and from each loop in the same file which doesn’t allow for the remixing that would be possible with a midi controller but allows for more interesting loops since you are limited to predefine set of sounds bites or bpm.
      Tl;dr modern games use single audio files and loops parts of it bajoo probably used a midi controller with different audio bites depending on the level and both has their ups and downs

    • @maxwell9561
      @maxwell9561 5 лет назад

      uh... what about the doom reboot

    • @RyoLeo
      @RyoLeo 5 лет назад

      noname noname I mean if recall correctly it still used the loop system and beyond each level having their own set of music it doesn’t change when going into a different area aka going outside or going to a deeper level on a foundry. But it does work really well in reacting to your actions/linking to events, such as getting a finisher or triggering enemies spawns. Which definitely helps a lot in terms of combat and transition between combat and exploration. But if you are just walking around after killing everyone trying to find that last secret you’ll notice the lack of dynamic music in just exploring sure it changes with different levels but exploration suffer from this. Now doom is heavily set towards combat while banjoo is heavily set to exploration so where they set the changes is very different. Also doom have the advantage of much more level sound effects so while the music will become very repetitive the environment sounds help break up that especially the announcement which bring nice doses of dark humor. In any case still not the same but it works very well for what it was designed for.
      tl;dr doom dynamic is base around combat banjoo is base around location

    It's interesting to have nostalgia for a game I never actually played. Back in 2001 or so my brother played Banjo Kazooie on the N64 and I sat there and watched him play it in its entirety. Listening to the music and watching snippets of it today gives me that same warm and happy feeling I got the first time I experienced it. I'm back in our childhood home with the extra unplugged n64 controller in my hand "playing" a classic. I hope I can play it for myself someday. I just need to get my hands on the old console!

      I kind of understand the feeling. I got Dark Cloud back on the PS2 when it came out. I played it a bit but couldn’t get past the first area and had trouble keeping money. My Dad eventually tried it out and loved it and beat it. I ended up helping him with looking up info on evolving the weapons of how to place the houses in the towns. He plays the game through at least once and year and I help him here and there. The songs bring me nostalgia and I remember many tricks and tips that I’ve learned from helping him but I’ve only played maybe a couple hours of the beginning.

    I recently played through Banjo Kazooie all over again just in celebration for his induction in Smash, and I'm going back through Tooie again too as of now! Such amazing timing on this video indeed my man! Game is still a masterpiece in my opinion, and I agree with ye here man! Great work, and cheers!

    I replayed this less than a year ago.
    It was just as great as I remembered. It was actually pretty unreal how good the game is. It is one of those games I feel like would be easy to just update the graphics and port it, and it would still be considered a good game by today's standards.
    (I also still have several of the scores saved on my playlist, that music is timeless)

    One of my favorite games, ever. Played it countless times whenever I was over at my dad's house until eventually he bought an N64 plus all the games for me. The game had so much character, so much love put into it.

    Mad Monster Mansion is my favourite level by far. So much creativity goes into that level, and the music is excellent. It has a church, a mansion (with several rooms), a puzzle hut, a well, a toilet, a maze and so on. It's fantastic. Also, skeletons and ghosts? Hell yes.

    I wish I played this as a kid. But was able to enjoy this threw Rare Replay. I do see the charm in it and why people say it’s one of the best games of their childhood. Because it leaves an impression on the mind with how playable and fun it is your first time playing. Its easy to get lost in it and enjoy both mindless fun and puzzle solving. Now if you excuse me, I got a trilogy to complete

    Have to give it to Rare. Not only did they create masterpiece after masterpiece but there remasters of Banjo and Perfect Dark are amazing on the 360. Instead of remaking the entire game, they up the res, up the frame rate and added proper faces in Perfect Dark while maintaining the charm of the classics. I loved playing through the games again and ill probably do it again.
