    I have a tank with every type of valsneria, and last time I trimmed the jungle I cut them WAY down to ~15 inches. This kind of shocked them I think because they completely stopped growing for a month or two. None of them died and they have started to grow slowly again, but it did give the rest of the plants in the tank a chance to grow abit (plants that have otherwise been stagnant). The gigantea seem to rebound the fastest.
    Just a little tip - if you get tired of constantly trimming, just go hard on them and they will chill for a bit.
    Also since I was mean in the last comment 😂 I have to say - Matt is looking sharp with the trimmed beard and non-candyfloss hair 👌

  • @guess2300
    @guess2300 Год назад +2

    Phalaenopsis don't really work the same way as other plants. They don't get "water roots" and green roots just mean that they have taken up water. You want roughly 1/3 of the roots in water if you grow them in water and might want to take the wooden stake out as it can rot. Can mount the plant on a lava rock and have just the roots in water if you want.

    Hola !! As always you put out an amazing experience from within the hobby. A little "fish phycology" I learned a while ago, if I may. And I have seen it in various states, even in a previous video of yours at Matt's. Fish hiding in the back of the tank may not be doing it for the reason you think.... you see a very "safe environment" with plants close to the front of the tank; but they see a huge area without anything, on YOUR side of the glass! to them, its the largest barren area without cover they have ever seen.
    Just a thought 😉

    I have my UV light on my classroom's tank as close as the fluval one is at 4:15, and I get the exact same coloration in the tank and on the fish. I personally like the slightly darker look when the light is closer, because to me it seems more natural. I do think the light being closer is more beneficial to my tank, because of my red root floaters. For your tank however, your val plants are either going to grow at alarming rates or they will start to melt if the light remains that close. Honestly, you could get away with having just one flood light over the center of the tank. That extra light probably isn't necessary.

I’ve often wondered what the hobby is like in the Netherlands, Holland is the “flower capitol” of Europe - if not the world. Generally an affinity for plants & animals go hand-in-hand. I think Europe at large is lightyears ahead of the USA -even here in NYC in terms of aquarist/animal husbandry nuance and tech. Happy New Year btw & have fun on your trip (speaking of which have a “Space Cake” for me...

    It's surprising you get such balanced setups with those little internal filters even in a larger tank like this one. I have a 10 gallon tank I used an internal filter in, but it had to be cleaned every few days or I would start to notice particulates floating in the water column. I'm definitely in the camp of over-filter is better, but it's hard to deny your results. Just as an example, I run a 120 GPH external filter for that 10 gallon now and with the stocking I have (maybe 60 Red Cherry Shrimp) needs to be cleaned once every three to six months.

    What is the razor blade you use to clean your glass? You’ve fully inspired me to transform my tank into a planted one and my fish have never been happier!
