    Evanescence - Lithium | guitar cover + tab | mike KidLazy
    This is my guitar cover of the song "Lithium" by ‪@Evanescence‬ . I used double-tracking and parallel recording to get a better audio quality. Also, this time I didn't play directly over the original, but I was lucky enough to find the studio multitracks and put them all together to make a backing track (minus the drums, which I re-programmed myself), so all the guitar parts you hear in this cover are 100% played by me. I am not sure whether these are the correct notes and chords for this song, as I have figured everything out by ear.

      Wow, learning this one and wow!I gotta ask this, do you keep a guitar for each alternative tuning or you change the tuning on a given guitar for things that are slightly different? My luthier said a new setup with specific string gauges are needed for best results. Just curious how you go about it.

    • @mikeKidLazy
      @mikeKidLazy  2 месяца назад +1

      @abbiepadeganeh In principle I have a different guitar for (almost) each tuning, but sometimes I just retune the same guitar. For me, in general, when the difference between two any given tunings is not greater then 1 semitone I can pretty much get away with it without having to change the strings or redo the whole setup (because I don't feel that big of a difference in the string tension between those tunings). But otherwise, your luthier is right: in such situations a completely new setup is recommended for best results, at least in theory.

    • @mikeKidLazy
      @mikeKidLazy  2 месяца назад +1

      @abbiepadeganeh there is also the case of the bass and the acoustic guitar, which is slightly different because I only have one of each of these instruments and I can't go with any of these approaches: I have no other acoustic guitar/bass to tune differently, and restringing + redoind the setup is not always an option considering I don't play acoustic and/or bass too often. So for the acoustic and the bass guitar in particular I prefer to do digital pitch shifting, which has its own downsides but at least it helps with the string tension and spares me of the need to restring and redo my setup for each and every song that's in a tuning lower than 1 semitone. Hope it makes sense 🙂

    • @abbiepadeganeh
      @abbiepadeganeh 2 месяца назад +1

      @@mikeKidLazy it does make sense. I’m experimenting with Axe Fx II (new toy for me) to get the pitch shift going. I think eventually I’ll have them set up for these alternative tunings that Evanescence uses.

    • @mikeKidLazy
      @mikeKidLazy  2 месяца назад +1

      @abbiepadeganeh Never used the Axe FX but I heard it's a great tool. As for myself, I'm currently using the pitch shifting functionality of the Digitech Whammy V, and I'm thinking of also getting a Digitech Drop pedal which allows to lower the tuning in increments of 1 semitone, which for me would be useful. Unfortunately the pitch shifting function of my Mooer GE 300 is really bad so it's unusable 99% of the time.

    • @mikeKidLazy
      @mikeKidLazy  3 года назад

      At the moment I'm using 12-54 for Drop A#, but the lower end seems to be buzzing quite a bit. I think I'm gonna go for 12-56 next time for this particular tuning.

    • @immortality22
      @immortality22 3 года назад +1

      @@mikeKidLazy nice. I had the same problem as well on the first fret. Did some small adjustment on the truss rod that help abit to get rid of the buzz. Then i change to a new set of string and it just went away..weird

    • @mikeKidLazy
      @mikeKidLazy  3 года назад +1

      Yeah. In my case the truss rod adjustment is not enough. I should also try to raise the action a bit, that would definitely help get rid of the buzz. Only that I think I've got a bit too used to having my string height at about 1.5mm at the 12th fret, which is not quite the best choice for playing rhythm in those low tunings...

    Do you mix the track yourself? It sounds like the backing vocals are boosted, just curious, I like it 😁😁

    • @mikeKidLazy
      @mikeKidLazy  3 года назад +1

      In this case I used the official studio multitracks for this song, I took out the guitars and added mine instead (and I also redid the drums from scratch). So yes, I did mix all the tracks myself. Now, the backing vocals sound a bit boosted because they were on the same track with the piano and the strings (and I couldn't separate them), so I had to live with what I'd got 🙂.Thanks once again for your comment, I'm glad that you enjoyed my cover!
