Such a delight! What an awesome clip, grace, beauty and elegance personified in one gorgeous package all tied up in ribbons and feathers. Sigh, my happy place.
Live TV performances by Jeanette are very very RARE. There’s only one major performances readily available. It was on The Voice of Firestone. This posting is a revelation! Thanks so much! She’s almost 50 here, and her voice was still superb here. She floats a high B at the end of Vilja. Interesting to see how wide she opened her mouth when she sang! Her movies are all lip-synced (to her own singing of course), and all the “classical” singers were told not to open their mouths too wide, according to Risë Stevens.
Thank you, Katie, for posting this beautiful excerpt, I got great pleasure. Jeanette as always was charming and graceful. I'd love to see another rare Jeanette records like this.
Jeanette had many projects in the suxties. They wanted her as The Reverend Mother in The Sound of music and was rehersing a musical with Liza Minnelli when she died on January 14 1965.
This was Ed Sullivans Toast Of The Town Jeanette and Gene were hosts while Ed was on vacation.Jeanette also sang Indian love Call and Jeanette & Gene sang a talk song called How Do You Do written by Gene about a couple driving home from a party. They also did a waltz.
Do you have any idea what Jeanette sang on the other episode of "Toast of the Town" she guested on from December 30, 1951? I can't find any listing of the songs performed anywhere.
Do we need John Amis with such wit and wisdom as She needed a lot of air . Took a breath after every phrase. After that he failed to recognise Jeanette and then quipped that he had heard her singing much better. The banality of My Music and when he used to whistle..
I remember my mother taking m to see this film. I was just a little girl and fell in love with Jeanette right there and then!! Loved her all my life.
Jeanette personifies grace and beauty.
What a divine voice! May we preserve her memory forever.
I adore Merry Widow, the music, costumes, arias and dancing, love the operetta and ballet. Have a wonderful ballet on DVD and never get bored with it

Some of the greatest music ever & Jennette voice.
It is a treat indeed for me to see a live performance by this very special lady.
I loved her voice. And her beauty.❤
The incomparable Jeanette Macdonald. Still so lovely. Thanks for posting this.
The magic, beauty and elegance of Jeanette never died. May her memory live on forever.
Lucky dancer to have danced with Jeanette while she sang.
I'm intrigued at her voice being so beautiful and her dancing is excellent
Jeanette's older voice is superb, and the way she dances, especially when she puts her hands behind her, not a step out of place.

Thanks for this wonderful piece. You're right, she's just so adorable, you can't help but love her.

Seeing a live performance of 's. McDonald
The original Vilja is in G; here it is in F, with a high A at the end.
Are there any more clips from this show with MacDonald or Peg Leg Bates?
What year did this co.e out?
Lets fake the translation..
