I really like the dawntrail design philosophy of "mechanics designed to spook you, but are actually simple once you parse them visually". Stuff like the last boss of Tender Valley's conveyor belts, Absolute Authority in the Sphene fight, the exaflares at the start of M4S phase 2 (which Happy saw through almost immediately, good shit), they all are designed to make you panic but then feel really good to do perfectly once you get them down.

EW gave some of the hardest fights and Abyssos destroyed the PF healers since almost every single raid wide gave a DoT, not to mention how they overturned the boss's HP due to the delayed release (they usually calculate HP based on damage the testing team does without materia or food then throw in a few to 5% percent HP).

    A. People are WAY better, just in general, especially week 1 raiders, or anyone whos done DSR/TOP
    B. This is preferable for content with a weekly lockout
Nobody wants a Savage tier, with THIS games gear system, potentially take 2-3 weeks, and more importantly, infuriating to reclear.
I think what i like the most about this tier, is theres not a single fights im dreading to reclear, and they'll probably get done pretty quickly.
I might even intentionally join late-prog groups, because the fights are just fun, there arent any nightmare encounters, or boring ones, or just "haha you got 40% of the way in, here is Devour", and you spend 90% of your time waiting for PF to get past the ONE mechanic and do the first 4 mechanics over and over and over.

I think thats something the dev team forgot, alongside making casual content too easy... there is an upper limit.
I think MOST people will agree that TOP went "too far", and P12S also went too far with asinine mechanics that just werent fun to do.
The focus to make content "really hard", inevitably creates content that is not fun, so this tier being maybe a lil easier here and there, is overshadowed entirely by the fact theres not a single mechanic that i would describe as bad or unfun

I just beat m3s, and this tier is amazing. I had almost forgotten how fun it was to have to work for uptime, and while there are places for it, the entire party blowing up because 1 person was out of place gets old fast. Anabasios really overdid it with the body checks. Honestly, dps checks don’t seem that different to me, but maybe m4s will change that.
In terms of rankings based on past first tiers:
M1s: best first fight of a raid series in the game. I mean it doesn’t exactly have that much competition, but still.
M2s: third best second fight. Voidwalker pretty soundly beats it, and while it is close, I found Hippokampos a bit more enjoyable with the arena and the knockbacks.
M3s: second best third fight. Halicarnassus is just a great fight, and while Brute bomber has some awesome moments, they could have done a bit more I think. I wasn’t there for living liquid, but in it’s current state, it’s not particularly interesting, even on min item level, but it could have been amazing for all I know, so I’m not counting it.
M4s: Haven’t beaten it yet, so I can’t judge. It has some tough competition though. Titan and Neo Exdeath are some of the best fights in the game. Wicked Thunder has some pretty cool mechanics at the start though, so maybe.

Imagine the boss being movable and increasing uptime based on observation of mechanics. I also love that mechanics can change based on what the player does. I think this tier is the perfect tuning as a PF raider. It feels punishing enough that you can still hit dps checks or wipe but not impossible to grasp conceptually or execute once you understand the placements.
There is no fight this tier that I felt was dreadfully annoying to beat. P10s by comparison was a nightmare with all the body checks. Body check mechs should be reserved at best to the last boss of a tier. Same thing with limit cuts for either third or fourth fights.

I think the tier was cleared so fast because there really isn't much of a puzzle element to any of the fights. It's more heavy on the execution side of things since there isn't really a mechanic which is that hard to figure out. Also the DPS checks are beyond lenient. That's my only complaint about the tier. My group killed M4S with four deaths and four damage downs. That shouldn't be happening during week one in my opinion even if it's the first tier of the expansion.

in party finder fight difficulty is not whats burning people out/is unfun. finding players who can do the fight to whats designated in pf consistently is whats burning ppl out. i remember first tier of endwalker. i cleared 1-3 in the first 2 days. had to work a lot after that. and then it took me 6 days of playing 14 hours a day to reclear 1 and 2 in week 2. and while the argument "just get a static it will make it so you are all always on the same prog point" is valid, i was a shiftworker during that time and had different times every week so i personally couldnt.
so even if this is gonna trigger some people but in party finder you fight the community and not the boss.

So it sounds like it's mainly just an issue with the final boss tuning. I wonder if savage raiders feel like SE perhaps goes a bit too far with their philosophy for the first tier of an expansion. There are only 4 bosses after all, I don't really see the problem with letting the final boss stay on par with where it is during internal testing instead of nerfing it by 10-15% like Happy was talking about.

Haven't hopped into the tier yet. This looks so much better than all of the EW tiers, and that is all I care about. EW was boring af, the fights were either boring, or were bad. I'd rather undertuned dps checks and fun fights than whatever the hell EW was. I didn't do the last EW tier because of burnout. The second tier was the worst raiding experience since Gordias, P5S was fine but the rest was honestly just bad, it was so bad that 7/8 of my long term group needed a break. Outside of EW ultimates, I can't think of any combat content that I found to be fun and engaging.
As for if the Ultimate or the next tier have a massive jump in dps checks I'd be fine with it. The focus should be on making the encounters fun first and foremost. If the DPS checks are more tight it'll be fine as long as fun is the first priority.

    • @Alklaine
      @Alklaine Месяц назад

That would require 1-3 chains, just because of how the poison is 270°, because if you did have 0 as an option it would mean poison can't cover first safe spot, but that means everyone else has at least 2 chains (ie. impossible to have 1 in that scenario), and that's not much different than how it works currently. To make it always 1-3 would mean you could have poison cover safe spot, and if you have 1 chain you are either in only poison or in the one spot poison isn't covering, and I think that's more interesting and to the spirit of what you're suggesting

It also throw the pace of the fight off (except when it's right before the second mustard bomb, I really like how quick the two chain together). Can't help to notice you also didn't mention the weird 15sec after the first conversion when she just do auto attacks while we burst that makes the pacing so off at this point.
