10:00 about the plane question of recovering time in the air: most planes fly a fair amount slower than their maximum speed, even commercial airlines. This helps keep flight paths clear and predictable for any other planes in the sky, but sometimes a pilot will get an okay to speed up and reduce their flight time, usually in cases of avoiding bad weather but also it might happen if the way is pretty clear in front of them. Also going faster burns more fuel which costs more money, so it's frowned upon unless needed. A lot of flights could probably be done in about half the time they predict, but the speed they go helps keep costs down, it makes sure no planes fly too close to each other, and it lets airports have enough time to clear runways before a plane gets there.

Someone probably answered the 9:59 question already, but pilots can "make up time" through a number of ways: from slipping certain "waypoints" (akanswitching to direct routing) to tailwinds pushing the plane along a little faster.
Congrats on your first submitted speedrun, Rath! You and I could really do great jobs on speedrunning games like this, instead of trying to speedrun platformers. I might try doing a segmented speedrun of Road to 100 MSQ with a solo Warrior. ^_^

I remember doing praetorium right before I had to go to work bc I figured I could get the scenarios out of the way and was able to get my party to rush our way through in about 20 minutes, just in time to log off and sprint for my car. not me having this play in the BG while playing ffxiv and getting confused about the sounds in the beginning being something im doing in game while Im literally just jumping around LOL
34:30 for some reason Titan hard is absurdly difficult in comparison to literally every other ARR trial, especially for healers. There’s about a 50/50 chance you’ll get wiped once. Which I mean- isn’t that bad- but it’s unusual for ARR.
Me: "oh yeah I've bum-rushed an alt past the Ultima fight in like two or three days, 20 hours sounds doable" Rath: "this speedrun requires all of the patch content" Me: "it WHAT-"
wait wait wait wait! Totorak 7min 55sec is world record!? I have done it with complete randos during roulettes in 6min 36sec. Curses! Now I wish I had a recording of that.
7:50 I am interested in what the optimal path would be if you were bounded by Duty Support (e.g. true solo). The variance will be much lower since you will not MSQ with random players, and you would not have to wait for everyone to be ready.
Oh I didn't realize that the video was made by the same guy who did an Ironman challenge for FFXIV 2.0 and locked himself to Limsa and made money and reached Level 70 in Fisher, also did the challenge where he created a femme-Roeg caled Ul Dah. BTB, you can't buy an apartment but you can join a Free Company and rent one of their rooms as your own... or is that tied to being a top tier Grand Company member? I forgot how housing works as I never had a house. Also, I never realized how having better gear mattered in synced duties as I thought that the gear would be capped to the level of the dungeon and the stats would be dropped down to the minimum stats. If I could queue in Level 100 players with Best in Slot gear to my dungeon runs, I could basically rofltstomp dungeons. ^_^
I 400,000% love the use of Dragon Quest music in a Final Fantasy video! It's so good! Which DQ games are you pulling from in particular? (Is it DQX for maximum Irony? That's what I would do)
That indeed does say 22 hours, total madlad right there 0:33 maybe one day I will have to try to beat that. All joking aside, there was a lot I could have done to save myself time in that run, I also got stuck waiting on a few queues for a couple hours which was just the best luck in the world. I think I went to the end of ARR at the worst possible moment, nobody was queueing for MSQ and had nearly an hour of wait time between the three Final quests there. I actually speedrun all the way to shadowbringers with new game. Good job on the speedrun though. 👍
@@rathgamesyou know, no better time to try this run once more. I am no RUclipsr but it has been a year, and with how many damn times I have ran through ARR making alts I think I can make a better time than my old runs if not challenge your time. We will see.
Update in the run, single segment with how queues were all run it would be impossible to get to even beat my time, with the hard primal fights that are necessary, to progress. And looking at the major cities, the number of people online was abysmal. A dead run by all rights sadly. But looking at the differences between my pre EW run and this, there is a huge amount of time save possible, from the changes EW made to ARR alone haven't even gotten to the point where flying would save time. By the start of castrum I was over an hour ahead and lost it all to waiting for dungeons and ifrit hard. 🤷🏼♀️
To your comment on how airplanes make up time in the air. Just like driving a car, going too slow or too fast uses more fuel so they maintain a "cruising speed" that has the best fuel efficiency but is much lower than the max speed of the plane. A 747 for instance, has a max speed of around 700mph but generally flies at a cruising speed of around 575mph. If they are running late and have the fuel to increase the speed, they can fly faster to make up for the lost time. Also worth noting that planes capable of flying faster than 767mph are banned from doing so over land because it breaks the sound barrier and the resulting sonic boom breaks windows and damages buildings on the ground.
@@rathgamesEver been to or seen a video of an airshow where a fighter jet takes off so fast it makes a loud boom? That's the plane breaking the sound barrier, aka moving faster than the speed of sound. Sound moves at 767mph or Mach 1. That loud boom doesn't happen once, you only hear at the moment it passes by and the shockwave hits you. As long as the plane maintains speeds above the sound barrier that loud boom follows. The shockwave created by the sonic boom shakes buildings, 30k feet below the plane, hard enough that it shatters windows and can even crack the buildings foundation.
There have been dozens of planes from military aircraft, commercial flights, private jets, and cargo planes capable of flying above the sound barrier, 767mph or Mach 1. These planes are called supersonic. There are even private jets that fly at hypersonic speeds greater than Mach 5. The first commercial plane to fly at supersonic speeds was released in 1947. In 1973 the FAA banned all supersonic and hypersonic flights over land so you will only fly at those speeds while over international waters. Only the US military is allowed to break the sound barrier over the US. Many international Countries have also enacted bans on breaking the sound barrier.
Tanks (in my experience) have equally quick queue times, I wonder how this run would go starting tank, making solo quest fights easier plus more control over the speed of the dungeon pace. This was super interesting!

not me having this play in the BG while playing ffxiv and getting confused about the sounds in the beginning being something im doing in game while Im literally just jumping around LOL
I love how much you plan! your videos are fun to watch and happy late birthday!
A bit late to the party, but I just wanted to say that I appreciate the effort put into the work order for Nero's 'chandelier'.
34:30 for some reason Titan hard is absurdly difficult in comparison to literally every other ARR trial, especially for healers. There’s about a 50/50 chance you’ll get wiped once. Which I mean- isn’t that bad- but it’s unusual for ARR.
for the leviathan song i always hear Waaaifuuu waiiiifuuu
ur welcome to never unhear it now too
nooooooooooo
12:00 I almost cried in disappointment
Congrats on the 13k subs!
Me: "oh yeah I've bum-rushed an alt past the Ultima fight in like two or three days, 20 hours sounds doable"
Rath: "this speedrun requires all of the patch content"
Me: "it WHAT-"
Your singing “Hyperdrive” from Yu-Gi-Oh! is fun
wait wait wait wait! Totorak 7min 55sec is world record!? I have done it with complete randos during roulettes in 6min 36sec. Curses! Now I wish I had a recording of that.
Go get that world record I believe
that rescue out of healer LB is beautiful
if I ever see Aero Dynamis in my duty, I promise to ZOOM.
You ate frozen meat?? You animal!
My uncle would say “you got the eye of the tiger bwoy!”
I like it!
The dancer in the hard Garuda probably had flashbacks to UWU lol
15:54 i didnt know what they were saying for the longest time as well
I do the same thing with bagels. Put one in the toaster and eat another while I wait.
My first time ever seeing a moogle was in Mario Hoops 3-on-3 for the Nintendo DS :)
People are grinding early content for the moogle stones for the free galmore stuff for 10th anverstry event that why your ques for stuff are quick.
This was back in July before the event sadly
The thousand Maws of Tota Rak Records were probably made on the old version of the dungeon, seeing that they are 1-3 years old.
I 400,000% love the use of Dragon Quest music in a Final Fantasy video! It's so good!
Which DQ games are you pulling from in particular? (Is it DQX for maximum Irony? That's what I would do)
At the very least some of the music is from 8 and 11!
It's crazy to think that retail FFXI only takes like 6hrs in comparison.
On some weird level I deeply understand the beef patty story.
29:50 He's obviously says Fry your food
The 9 hour Titan split seems like a lifetime ago now.
And here it took me well over 900 hours to beat FF14 to the end of current dlc because of all the god damn content
Bro the yugioh 5ds and bakugan themes filled me with so much nostalgia
That indeed does say 22 hours, total madlad right there 0:33 maybe one day I will have to try to beat that.
All joking aside, there was a lot I could have done to save myself time in that run, I also got stuck waiting on a few queues for a couple hours which was just the best luck in the world. I think I went to the end of ARR at the worst possible moment, nobody was queueing for MSQ and had nearly an hour of wait time between the three Final quests there. I actually speedrun all the way to shadowbringers with new game.
Good job on the speedrun though. 👍
The man himself has arrived. You were also stuck with old praetorium and castrum so I can understand a lot of it.
Masterpiece.
It breaks the what now.
Thats insane. Is there a commercial passenger plane that can hit those speeds?
Congrats on the time, tempted to try one myself as bit of an altaholic
The Dragon Quest music is inspired. 10/10
Tanks (in my experience) have equally quick queue times, I wonder how this run would go starting tank, making solo quest fights easier plus more control over the speed of the dungeon pace. This was super interesting!
The pinned comment from WR holder goes into the tank details fairly thoroughly if you wre curious :0
