Alphaboy202 Idk, maybe since it's more boxing? And characters are visibly wounded in the game, rather than in ssb it's more tame. And seeing as how violence against women is kind of a huge, very real issue that actually happens, it's less tasteful seeing a woman get knocked out by a punch to the face, rather than zapped or blasted off in a cartoonish fashion.

floatfall I still think that it shouldn't matter whether a girl put into punch-out. The latest game was very wacky, cartoonish, and not realistic at all.
Also, it's rude not to put women in games like punch-out, because they can be tough as well, right? But if you put a women in a game you are perpetuating violence against women, and that's distasteful. It's a bit of a paradox.

Joshua Colquhoun Proportion-wise, Peach is a lot more in-line with the Punch Out universe than Mario. She'd be fine.

Joshua Colquhoun Mario wasn't taken out for the aesthetics, it's total BS, they took him out because they wanted the game to have a solidified universe, and using a very popular character wouldn't have helped so they put others instead.

Actually, Bald Bull's palette swap is Mr. Sandman, not Honda. Piston Honda actually shares his body with Tyson himself. Other palette swaps include: Glass Joe with Don Flaminco, Von Kaiser with Great Tiger, and Soda Popinski with Super Machoman. Only King Hippo has an all original body type.
I really hope they'll make another Punch-Out!!, the Wii one was addicting.

Fuzunga I think their reason behind it is how both games handle the "violence", where Smash Brothers the damage isn't retained, in punch out, the characters retain bruises and other hit marks on the faces. That may be the reason for it, and frankly on the long run, it saved them a lot of trouble, specially how things are right now.
Punch-Out might be cartoonish but it's still a lot more realistic and graphic than SSB. Punching someone in the face until they get knocked out looks a lot worse than punching them and having them fly off into space where they come back, unscathed, seconds later.
Cian in real life, no they don't compete against each other. But this is fiction. Not only that, but back in the early 2000s Ready 2 Rumble boxing had pretty good reviews and success, AND featured men and women boxing each other, AND was released on Nintendo

Princess Peach would have been a disturbing choice for an opponent, anyway, not because she's a woman but because she's very dainty and cutesy. Perhaps a female character that is tougher and can take a punch, like Samus Aran, would have been more appropriate.

Perhaps she will probably be defeated due to her low strength, but if for some reason Peach would feel like going into the ring, she will do it.

PinkNight Imagine getting Peach all bruised, though, and then knocking her out. It would look kind of disturbing to do that to such a dainty and innocent looking woman. A female that's more hardened like Samus would make more sense, someone probably trained to fight hand to hand. Even Zelda would be pushing it, though it would make sense if she was in her Sheik outfit. That'd be an interesting fight.

Eric Z I might be wrong, but I actually think it does matter. To use a similar example, Episode 3 is a sequel to Episode 2, but Episode 4 is not a sequel to Episode 3. I'd go with "predecessor" instead of "prequel," because it came first and wasn't intended to fill some gap from what came second.

I think it'd be great to have Peach as a fighter. Hair up, arms taped. Real scrapper look going on. No screaming or wailing, just the grunts and muffled pained sounds of a professional fighter. And make her a hard fight as well. Something you really need to work at to get victory. Doesn't go down with a cry or plea, just gets whacked hard and drops. After the count, she gets back up, spits out her mouthguard, calls it a good fight, and bumps gloves with you.
Really can't do "This promotes violence against women!" when they are a professional boxer, after all. I know a couple amateur fighters. They be scary.

They do have similar bodies, and sprite tiles actually if you look closer. Their pants are also color pallette swapped. All four of those boxers share similar designs actually. Meanwhile, Glass Joe & Don Flamenco are similar, while Great Tiger & Von Kaiser are similar too. Then there's Soda Popinski, and Super Macho Man.

I don't always read the full title but every time I hear him say who he is I get blown away and have memories of that show. Haven't watched them in years. So different.

I really wish Nintendo would stop treating their classic arcade line-up as if they never existed.
Punch-Out!!, Super Punch-Out!!, and Arm Wrestling would make an excellent 3DS title. It would make perfect use of the dual screen and the wireframe Mac would look awesome in 3D. They could add some bonus touch screen punching control scheme and it would be incredible.
In addition I'd also love to see them release the arcade version of Donkey Kong, along with many others. The NES, while being a great system, was not arcade perfect by any means.

It would've been super awesome to have been able to fight Peach. Especially if she was like, the super final hidden boss who was insanely hard to beat. Truth be told, I would like to see a female - centric version of Punch Out as an eShop exclusive. Complete with multiplayer mode in which you can actually play as the boxers that you beaten, a training mode in the style of Super Training from Pokemon and of course... DLC!

I think that'd be a neat idea for Punch-Out Switch: a genderswap mode. Like Shovel Knight has/is about to have.

In the game Yie Ar Kung Fu released on the NES you can fight against girl kung fu fighters on equal footing. No problem, they're fighters and you're a fighter. Japan is awesome, and by not giving a fuck about PC-ness they're actually giving the representation needed.

LittleWorld Games No he doesn't. Look up a sprite sheet for both fighters. They do not share arms or anything else. Tyson and Honda are head swaps. Bald Bull and Sandman are head swaps.
The fact about Piston Hondo and Bald Bull having the same body sprite is actually not true; Bald Bull shared Mr. Sandman's body sprite, and Hondo's sprite was shared with Mike Tyson/Mr. Dream.
Such as piston Honda and bald bull. NO a better example would be bald bull and mr sandman. Honda's re-skin was Tyson/ mr dream.

I think there would be a more severe problem than violence against women if peach was in Punch-Out!! She would either fight in a dress or be in a very skimpy outfit and she would probably bring Toad to the ring also creating violence against babies.
But Toad isn't a baby, he just looks like one. Toads do age, as shown in the Mario RPG games.
Also they can make a boxing outfit based on Peach's design in Mario Strikers

Would you be offended if Princess Peach was in the fighting ring taking punches and getting bruised? OR, would you see this as progression, where a female can hold her own weight in a boxing ring against men?
If you know some real life feminist who wouldn't watch this video channel on their own, please ask them about it! Make sure you mention it would be Princess Peach wearing boxing gloves fighting Little Mac in a ring, where she can be defeated like any other male boxer.
I can't see Peach fighting not because she's a woman, but because I can't see her character joining a boxing competition. I can see, for example, Zelda doing it. Because she seems tougher, you know, like she can actually handle herself on a fight. But Peach? no way.

as many other said, we can't see peach as fighting charather altogeder (and SSMB moveset is pretty far for combat prone as well) altho, in an environment as punch-out ring I could easily see some female charather getting down and dishing the pain
in a more general way, having females refraining from fight because it could offend people is way, way more sexist than aving a woman fight and get beaten, on the ground that women are weaker physically, as byology dictates
the perfect example of this is SplashWoman from Megaman9: she is the most frail out of the robot masters, recieving 2 damages from the base blaster shot and whooping 3 from her own weapon, but at the same timet that's arguably the most efficient direct powerup weapon when used by the player, and is one of the strongest enemy attack in the game, coupled with wide-area sweeps

Peach as the final boss for Punchout Wii would have been great. I love expanding my Dong as much as the next guy, but people getting devastated by a 90 pound woman in an evening gown would have been hilarious.
I don't get the whole "violence against women" thing. Women can fight too and nowadays they get offended over the stupidest things. Also, It's just a frickin' game! Nintendo should've made Peach an opponent anyway.

Vitliy There was an uproar just last year when Nintendo removed a Glitch from Tomodachi Life that would allow Gay Marriage for the Miis but completley destroy your save File. Even the News thought Nintendo was Anti-Gay because of that.

You got your info wrong when listing Piston Honda & Bald Bull as a headswap example. Bald Bull actually shared a body with Mr. Sandman; Piston Honda's headswap was with Mike Tyson / Mr. Dream.
While Honda and Bald Bull have similar stances, they do not use the same sprites.

I think the solution to Peach's fight would be simple: She blocks all incoming attacks. However, every blow landed would force her to step back. Basically, you win by achieving a Ring Out, not a Knock Out.
