I completely agree with you, specially the part where you talk about the lack of a story. I finished Bloodborne recently and now I'm playing Dark Souls Remastered. I'm basically doing this because of how people say these games are the best thing in the world, almost the cure for the cancer. And now, after beating one and continue playing the series, I'm not able to see where the magic of these games is. I keep going to areas, fighting enemies, dying and killing bosses, but I don't understand why I'm doing all of this. So, I agree with you: these games are boring and overrated and I'm thinking in giving up in order to find another game that give me more fun and make my time worth.
