- 'Tuba Skinny and Shaye Cohn', written by Pops Coffee, is available from Amazon, both as a paperback and as an eBook.
This song was written and recorded by Victoria Spivey and her husband Reuben Floyd in 1929. Tuba Skinny have included it in two of their Albums - 'Garbage Man' and 'Owl Call Blues'. It has a 32-bar a-a-b-a Chorus. Note how Tuba Skinny flip easily between keys. They play the first Chorus in E flat and then - at the start of Jonathan's Chorus (1 minute 08 seconds) - drop to B flat. This prepares us for Erika's vocal. B flat suits her tessitura. However, the band returns to E flat (at 4 minutes 03 seconds) to give a bit more flamboyance to the final Chorus in which Shaye plays the opening 24 bars against first-beat stop chords. Tuba Skinny are following the example of the original 1929 recording, which has exactly the same two key changes and also ends with a cornet chorus against stop chords. This performance is believed to have been filmed in 2015. - Видеоклипы
What an awesome special performance.
Love the sax sound .
Craig is a wonderful saxophone too.
Jon Doyle brilliant .
Thank you so much for filming and sharing here.
Best wishes to you Dave 👋
As much as I enjoy hearing Tuba Skinny today, I still love these vintage performances live from Royal St. Thanks for sharing Pops!
Me too, and I like to see dancers, not so common now.
Super ! thank you very much Pops !
Avec Craig au sax alto....
Nice to hear the sax on this version.
Many thanks for the video and valuable notes. Apparently the video was filmed on 4/10/15. gitalalexa also filmed this performance, from two shooting points, they were standing a little to the left and to the right.
Have I been reading the wrong books? I thought tessitura was a property of the song, not the singer.
He is better on the alto sax than the clarinet..
