With supreme confidence the group sweeps away a hundred years and takes us back to the time when this music was an infant finding a place in America's heart. Mikie
This band is always marvellous. Sometimes this one is missing, other times that one is away, yet the core group is so strong that the quality remains very high. I do not mean to imply that the missing aren't missed for they most certainly are. Tuba Skinny is a much better group when all hands are present, but you're still terrific when some are missing.
A marvelous band for sure, says this man who grew up on Western Swing, Big Band, and New Orleans Dixieland. Even those scurrilous-looking men are great with their instrument. Considering the way they dress, by the way, I wonder whether any nice looking babes ever give 'em the time of day. That Shay Cohen is an extraordinarily good leader. Her cues are so subtle most people, I suspect, miss them.
The men dress that way because it is part of the act. While we're on the subject, how in the name of God could any decent woman hang out with the freaky assed no talent rockers and rappers who dress that way performing or not? Get a life.
I would love to be able to sit in on a TS rehearsal, to be able to see the dedication and hard work, Shaye and rest of the guys put in. Bet they have fun too
I'd like to introduce you all to RaoulDuke504 who's one of the great video makers, such as James Sterling or digitalalexa. He's standing behind Shaye and Barnabus near a waste container and shooting video "Black Rag".
Thanks for this .. 'Randy', I think; a chef - lives in the area and drives in - a fan, and skilled cameraman. Don't like to be too intrusive in today's world, but it's neat to have a face behind all the dedication. He, 'DigitalAlexa', James and others ... plus Pops Coffee's Blog and videos .. have given huge pleasure to many thousands of viewers, and have 'made' Tuba Skinny in some sense. This brilliant music needed to be heard.
Hmmm ... did Shaye miss, forget, a note or phrase at 8:40 ?? Sure covered it nicely if so .... Worthy of comment only because it would be exceedingly rare .......
Maybe, Bob. As Robin's announcement implies, this was probably the first time they tried this tune in public, so such a moment was excusable. My theory is that after the two-bar break by Todd, her mind was on getting them back on to the first theme, which she signals with the pat on the head at 8 mins 46 secs.
@@PopsCoffee Makes sense. And if this was a 'public debut', they MUST be having some practice .... no one seems to be reading of a chart. They do serious 'work' on this music .....
Bob Throne Jason Max and Greg are reading charts most of the time.I know Max plays in a couple bands so I wonder how much time they put aside for practice? They are doing what they love ! awesome group of talent 😎🎶
@@iLLuSiiioNz They do play for the love of the music. AND they ALL play outside of TS, even Shaye (often with Erica). All of the strings have bands of their own, and sometimes play with one another. Craig and Robin play a lot elsewhere - with TS spin-off groups and many others; Barnabus too, but less often I guess. Doing outside gigs also helps them earn a living. Most clubs pay modestly ... a % of the bar or a small flat fee .. so those tip buckets matter. I have a good friend with a couple bands and that's the practice most places. Generally TS busks twice a week and has two club dates a week, and they add dates when they can .. and when it will pay to. Yes, Jason, Max & Greg often have charts, lead sheets, at their feet, especially when they are playing new tunes or going back to something. Even the horns from time to time. Shaye too, on occasion .. there is often a set list laying there too. They do work up new tunes in practice times. Their repertoire now runs to 300 - 350 ! It's incredible what they have in their heads ......
It's always good to listen to Tuba Skinny I Say if the whole World was Tuba Skinny it would certainly be a much better World!!!!!

I would pay money to work in that store just to hear Shaye and the band play !!!
Zoot suits, flappers, & speak easies with peep holes!
UPDATE: Shame on me. I left out juke joints on that first pass. My bad!

Heresy! Heresy! I assume you know the penalty for heresy.

Does it get cold in New Orleans? Clarinet is wearing long undies!
Rick Bergles not really but when it does get chilly, NOLA freezes their asses off !!! They’re use to 🥵 HOT 🥵 HOT 🥵 HOT !!!

@@87sailorgirl Yes, Bob. You're perfectly right.
Fantástico.
Parabéns, vocês são muito bons...
Does anyone know what Shaye is signalling at 2:30?
Stop chords on beats 1, 2 and 3.
Fascinating!
Just listen and dream all the time they play.
