    Awesome content Coch, almost verbatim how I was taught in Canada. Very very effective. I have also used Dave Steinbach’s tutorials with mag on ground. The beauty is, you can use either technique, the key is knowing when to and how to. You guys make learning for non shooters pretty easy and straightforward. Thanks again!🙏🍺

    I always did (and do) the monopod technique using the mag as the monopod. My senior drill sergeant was a CIB right hand patch 75th Airborne Ranger, so I saw no reason to doubt him when he taught us that technique.

      I did the same thing. Easier with the 30 round mags. We had a lot of 20 round mags back then (early 80s). Don't know if they are even still being used.

      Great lesson! Ironically, 40 years ago the monopod technique was taboo. Would supposedly cause feeding problems. There were a fair number of training scars that resulted from the problems experienced with the M16 during Viet Nam. I know that not using the mag was taught at least thru the 80s. Anymore if I go prone for a precision shot, I try to find support, however that’s not always possible. Riflemen need to practice unsupported shooting positions because that what helps to make a rifleman.

    Great coaching. I always find resting the mag/foregrip on the ground to be a firm position and treat the mag as the pivot around which everything else moves. Not always comfy - or easy to traverse as you say - but very solid.

    I have been shooting rifle for a long time. My initial instruction and training were in the cock legged prone position. I have tried the straight leg prone, but I never can find my repeatable natural point of aim. In the cocked leg, it’s muscle memory at this point. Do you think the straight leg prone offers real advantages? Enough to warrant retraining?
    PS … after twenty years to break the habit, I no longer chicken wing. Maybe there is still hope for me.

    • @YouveBeenMiddled
      @YouveBeenMiddled Год назад

      It does not (only very slightly lower profile). Keep using the cocked leg (especially if you've got the round shape most of us do) to help with breath control movements. There are some good points in this video, but the use of musculature in the support arm & support hand on the VFG (vs. sling and resting support arm/hand) aren't.
      Excellent unsupported marksmanship fundamentals haven't changed since they were refined over 100 years ago. All of the "new" stuff is a compromise for speed at shorter engagement distances (

    I was getting all excited, bc I don't know how to use my rifle in the prone, then I realized that I'm using a Bullpup, so that magazine support you were addressing doesn't apply to me. ...I still tried it out, but wow, my elbows are apparently cry-babies, bc they were instantly killing me!
    TLDR: This is actually very difficult.

  • @Franklinguy759
    @Franklinguy759 10 месяцев назад

    Competitive prone shooter here. To establish NPA, the front elbow is the pivot point. I guess you folks don’t use the sling to drive the butstock into the shoulder. If you did it would help.

    "even if your involved in the cleanest shoot, you can imagine someone's coming after your wallet". no truer words been said. the legal system doesnt profit from petty criminals they profit from hard working people like yourself. when you're done being attacked on the streets you are than attacked in the courts and you the one that fits the bill trying to save your life.
