As always you guys are putting out high quality consistent content that everyone can learn from. Coch does a fantastic job of breaking down and explaining the topic in a clear and concise manner. Thank y’all for the high quality content.
As a big time prone man that has no other means to test handloads this will help me…you men are puttin out good helpful info and I appreciate it alot…along with your service and protection you have provided for my family and friends…thanks. Matt way over in Ky..
This is why I love this channel good information not trying to sell you anything I try to have a bipod for my prone situations will try this thanks
I appreciate the way you covered alternate versions at the end.
Awesome video, as usual when Coch is doing it. Thanks for the lessons.
Awesome content Coch, almost verbatim how I was taught in Canada. Very very effective. I have also used Dave Steinbach’s tutorials with mag on ground. The beauty is, you can use either technique, the key is knowing when to and how to. You guys make learning for non shooters pretty easy and straightforward. Thanks again!🙏🍺
Love this lesson!
Great lesson, thanks
Simplified my overthinking.
Thanks Coch!
Very good! Thank you!
I always did (and do) the monopod technique using the mag as the monopod. My senior drill sergeant was a CIB right hand patch 75th Airborne Ranger, so I saw no reason to doubt him when he taught us that technique.
the more you know, the better. there will be situations that call for other techniques. but to each their own. whatever works for you at the moment.
I did the same thing. Easier with the 30 round mags. We had a lot of 20 round mags back then (early 80s). Don't know if they are even still being used.
@@BirdDogey1 20rd mags are only used by troops that want to be retro and cool. LOL
Great lesson! Ironically, 40 years ago the monopod technique was taboo. Would supposedly cause feeding problems. There were a fair number of training scars that resulted from the problems experienced with the M16 during Viet Nam. I know that not using the mag was taught at least thru the 80s. Anymore if I go prone for a precision shot, I try to find support, however that’s not always possible. Riflemen need to practice unsupported shooting positions because that what helps to make a rifleman.
Thank you Coch. Awesome video
Good content...back to basics.
One of the best tutorials I've ever seen
That is a one well explained lesson. Thanks.
Great coaching. I always find resting the mag/foregrip on the ground to be a firm position and treat the mag as the pivot around which everything else moves. Not always comfy - or easy to traverse as you say - but very solid.
missed this when it came out but it speaks to a lot of the challenges Ive had. Thanks!
excellent vids
Thank you! Excellent video.
Do you have a video about ways to get into prone position in reaction to contact?
Great information
Thank you no one ever taught me this before.
Thank you!
Great videos
Good stuff
Thanks Coch, Great vid. Would you agree that using 30 round mags for prone is a better choice for the beginner? Cheers.
nice thanks!
Im definitely guilty of craning my neck down to get behind the rifle. I practiced your setup at home and it feels much more comfortable and natural. Thanks man!
Excellent. So later will you do one with BA
Thank you, brothers. Keep those heels parallel in prone.
Don't know how to thank you. After watching this video I've followed whatever is said in this video and finally I could make 2 inch grouping from 100m/5 Shots.
Great video, would love to see this with a bolt action and a bipod.. Thanks for sharing..
That LMT is slick
Spine , shoulder , grip. Good to know 🤘
Thanks Coch. Are there changes necessary if you use a bipod?
This was worth the watch just to see Coch sing the theme music at the beginning! LOL!
The fact these videos have two separate intro sequences back to back is already like unintentional satire, may as well drive it home.
TY TH solid
Cool 😎
Lol Coch is out of his fkin mind. The best.
W.
Thanks Coch! :) :us
I have been shooting rifle for a long time. My initial instruction and training were in the cock legged prone position. I have tried the straight leg prone, but I never can find my repeatable natural point of aim. In the cocked leg, it’s muscle memory at this point. Do you think the straight leg prone offers real advantages? Enough to warrant retraining?
PS … after twenty years to break the habit, I no longer chicken wing. Maybe there is still hope for me.
It does not (only very slightly lower profile). Keep using the cocked leg (especially if you've got the round shape most of us do) to help with breath control movements. There are some good points in this video, but the use of musculature in the support arm & support hand on the VFG (vs. sling and resting support arm/hand) aren't.
Excellent unsupported marksmanship fundamentals haven't changed since they were refined over 100 years ago. All of the "new" stuff is a compromise for speed at shorter engagement distances (
I was getting all excited, bc I don't know how to use my rifle in the prone, then I realized that I'm using a Bullpup, so that magazine support you were addressing doesn't apply to me. ...I still tried it out, but wow, my elbows are apparently cry-babies, bc they were instantly killing me!
TLDR: This is actually very difficult.
Competitive prone shooter here. To establish NPA, the front elbow is the pivot point. I guess you folks don’t use the sling to drive the butstock into the shoulder. If you did it would help.
Prone is good for a novice shooter still practice in shooting rifle
Should have Coch doing the intro song from here forward
Respiratory pause, that's science

Coch rocking the Rothco soft boots!?
@Mark Cochiolo Quickly becoming my favorite RUclipsr. Much respect, Coch.
@Mark Cochiolo Actually the boots are Lowa
the boots are Lowa...
I recently tried to rest on a small table with a somewhat soft surface and I had to laugh cause I couldn't rest on the mag, being shorter than the grip.
Pat McNamara use his mag as a bipod and lay flat on the ground. i don't know how he manage to be confortable and accurate with this position because i tried it and found it's too low for me.
You mean monopod? unless good, ol' Pat uses two mags...

"even if your involved in the cleanest shoot, you can imagine someone's coming after your wallet". no truer words been said. the legal system doesnt profit from petty criminals they profit from hard working people like yourself. when you're done being attacked on the streets you are than attacked in the courts and you the one that fits the bill trying to save your life.
