Watching this in Sep 2021. Just ordered my first Onewhell and just finding out right now about how behind we are in Australia. I’m in NSW…such a bummer. Well, too late to cancel he order. Let’s take the risk and hope the laws come out soon.
I'm in. I live in QLD on the border of NSW and had no idea of the laws so this was the perfect video. Thanx mate :) I will be getting a longboard or One Wheel in the next few weeks so I'm just doing some research. Awesome channel by the way.
@@benbucklerboards Hi Ben Buckler Boards, how are you doing my friend? Hope you’re doing well Ben!!! Thank you for sharing the ideas on the video on Laws explained for electric bikes, skateboards and more. Awesome channel by the way. Hope you have a great week!!! It’s so nice to meet you. Best friends as always from PaulLaw.
Hey I’m from SA and I want to get a board soon but they said electric scooter, skateboards are illegal even though I’ve seen countless people use them. Can anyone help me out, there’s even a company called Beam that is an electric scooter company?
Yep, it's illegal unless as part of a rideshare program (Neuron and Beam), which are limited to 15km/h. What a joke! Just another way for Councils to make 💰. And yep I've seen plenty of people use private ones, but not sure if I should take the risk.
Yes sadly e-Devices are only legal in ACT and Queensland at the moment, we're working with the Electric Riders Australia to make them legal everywhere. Sign the petition, and more info here electricriders.org.au/
Why don't you talk about the laws for ebikes mate? Even New Zealand allows an assisted maximum speed of 32km/hr! What's wrong with this place? And they limit the maximum continuous power output of the motor to 250W...? What's unsafe about a 500W maximum continuous output? It's allowed in the US and Canada, and most ebike shops would love to see it. It would certainly help heavier riders like myself get up hills easier! If you want to ride an ebike with more 250W continuous power here you've got to pay registration, have a licence and wear a bloody motorbike helmet. It just STINKS of revenue raising!
There is actually some progress, the PEV are now recognised in the Australian road rules, now we need NSW to follow! check electricriders.org.au/petition
Electric scooters are currently not legal to ride in NSW, regardless of the size & specs. Hopefully these 1988 laws will change soon. Thanks for your question!
@@benbucklerboards i think we all get a parishioner together and send it to the government of NSW and get them legal like push bikes thay can ride on roasd and not need rego or licences
Has there been any more progress??? : ( I was hoping to buy one from you.. May bee I should buy and use it privately? But I doubt that would be worth the investment..
The fun is worth the investment ;) The laws are progressing yes, we are now recognised in the Australian road rules, now all we need is for NSW to follow and updates the State rules!
Legal in queensland but not on all streets. Any street that has a centreline like a 2 way street ....illegal. Your standard residental roads that have no linemarkin and are 50km hour...legal. Most of the streets in queensland they are still illegal unless its those inner suburb type streets where kids used to play cricket on then run out of the way when local car came.
Keep fighting the good fight Ben, your state should get some good laws soon. I'm one of the people lucky enough to Live in "legal" QLD (and who bought a Onewheel from you). 🌄😁 👍👍

If u own a private one not a government issued one u see in cities in qld the fkn nanny state you can drive them on the road it is not fully illegal in the designated test zones with no more than 10kms an hr or Max of 200w you can ride your private one.
We should be allowed to use the roads as cyclists do. I don't see why we should be restricted to 25 if what you have is able to do higher safely why not.
So the NSW GOVERNMENT doesn't mind TAXING businesses & buyers that sell/purchase e-scooters/e-boards thats legal.. but riding them is illegal!?!? IF THERE ILLEGAL DONT ALLOW NSW PEOPLE TO BUY THEM.. OR BETTER YET CHANGE YOUR PATHETIC.. OUT DATES LAWS... I NEED TO GET TO WORK WITH OUT INCURRING SOME STUPID FINE!!!
@@benbucklerboards Wow!! Good to see you have a petition ready. I'm definitely going to try and share this with as many people as I can, I seriously want to be able to ride my scooter in peace

How about victoria?
I believe it’s legal for privately owned electric vehicles now, but check with your local council
It’s now nearly 2 years since this video was made and no change has happened yet!?! Come on NSW Government

It is only legal in ACT and Victoria at the time of writing this answer, but things are moving and we're hoping to see it legalised everywhere soon!

Basically what this means is all E scooters and boards will be factory limited to 25kph so get in and buy one of the “illegal” ones before there gone.
Pretty much :)
