I got to see her in person at Knott’s Berry Farm way back in the day when she was just starting out! It was a tiny outdoor stage without a lot of people standing around it. I was so impressed with her singing & thought she should have had the biggest stage there!! I bought every album she ever made ( vinyl ones, yes!!)
I saw Amy Grant on an interview, and she told this story about how when she first met Carolyn Arends she was very impressed with her shirt… especially the mustard stain on the front of it. And Mrs Arends apparently said “yeah… it’s French’s… my Turkey sandwich was super good!” And then the 2 of them became best of friends.
I met Amy twice . I gave her a t shirt of my town and she wore it on stage at that concert. she also dedicated a song to my husband for me. She’s a nice person.
We (the school I'm at) hosted southern gospel giant Guy Penrod in concert many years ago. He laughed (joyfully) at me when I fanboyed over meeting his guitarist, Tom Hemby. I started rattling off all of these CCM albums Tom had played on in the 80s and 90s, and Guy just said, "Well, I guess I know how I rank around here." LOL
That’s so funny, I met him when we were on vacation in 2016 at the souvenir shop Rock city in Chattanooga, sweet man, and his wife- Who shares my name🥴❤️🙏🏼
I'm an Amy fan too, my fav album by her is Straight Ahead but there is such a deep body of work for her. She's amazing. But maybe it would surprise you that I know some of your music too Carolyn! I remember having a tape of yours and enjoyed it so much. "Surprised by joy, awash in love...just one taste of grace and I'm overcome." I'm going to catch up on your music, I remember your lyrics are super relatable and your voice is so creamy. If you worked with Amy it's gotta be really good. Looking forward to hearing that.
In 2004, I should've been there already but my flight had been delayed. While sitting in the airport, I broke the ice with this teenaged girl with a guitar wearing a "Sieze the Day" T-Shirt. "I like that shirt," I said, "Is it a Carolyn Arends shirt?" "I like Carolyn Arends," she said, and gave me an unreleased EP. The girl was Bethany Dillon.
Amy Grant's "heart in motion" album was my soundtrack when I lived in Israel for a year. In fact, every time I listen to it I'm taken back to that time..up that point she and Twila Paris were my fav artists.. they soon would be eclipsed by Ofra Haza, but I've always loved Amy's post xian albums (Lead Me On, Heart in Motion, House of Love, etc.)
