  • Skateboarding Nostalgia: G&S FIBREFLEX TEAMRIDER. Complete Setup and SKATE (PART1)
First off, thanks to the Concrete Wave ( youtube.com/@concrete-waves?s... ) for providing great articles and pictures to go with this video. Thanks for all you do for the community .
I was going to nerd out bad on all the details, we will save that for part 2.
Bottom line, I love Gordon and Smith, G&S, Skate Boards. Growing up in San Diego, G&S is Surf and Skate culture to me. This video is important to me because I get one step closer to getting back to everything I love about skateboarding.
A Brief History of Gordon and Smith Skateboards, Fibreflex skateboards, a complete setup, and Skating Fayetteville North Carolina.
    I hope you enjoy.
    The Setup:
-A Reissue 1978 G&S Fibreflex Teamrider (Real OG Skateboard)
5 Plys of Maple with 2 outer layers of Pre-cured Epoxy Fibreglass (Bo-tuff).
    - FibreFlex Stickers on the deck and bottom
    Dimensions:
    - 30" Long
    - 7.5" Wide
    - 16.5" Wheelbase
    - Die-cut Grip Tape
    - Reissue G&S 98a YOYO 63mm Rounded conical backs and they have a 1-1/2" contact patch surface designed by Hall of Fame Rider Steve Cathey
Benet Vector Trucks From SK8 Kings
RAD PADS and angled Risers (More on these in the next Video)
Bronson G3 Eric Dressen Bearing (They Match G&S Colors)

Awesome video! Love to hear these stories and the history behind it. I like that we keep them alive and passed down. My father, John ‘Terry’ was the founder of the G&S Trucks in 1985 which was when I fell in love with the company. However, my love for G&S was short lived! My father continued to manufacture these trucks until Larry Gordon took my dad’s design and started having them made overseas. Once we found this out and doing this behind our family’s back, it was then when San Diego Trucking Supply was born and started making our own 4130 Chromoly Truck. There is no doubt that G&S put skateboarding on the map and made it to what it is today. They gave my family an opportunity and a good living but the morals and values of their business was an ugly side of their company that people didn’t see.

Thank you for sharing your and your family's story. I felt every word of it.
Respect that your father was able to adapt and overcome. Thank you for what he did for skateboarding.
Now I need to find some of his trucks (not the G&S) and skate them.

First of all… Happy Birthday Sir. 47 years young… and a lot more to rip!
Good times… so much nostalgia in 20 min video. I never got to know those brands well and at that time back in Brazil we didn’t have much access as American brands like we have today.
My very first skateboard looks exactly like your fireflex one but it was handmade locally using trucks and wheels from a vintage roller skate.
Well done for growing such a wonderful community on here. Congrats to the winner and hope to meet you at some point!

That part of skate history of making your own board is so important.
Skate history moved fast and in waves. We were born and the tail end of the greatest part of skateboarding and we have gotten to witness the unreal progression of skateboarding.
Now we get to watch it again with the woman skaters. However, I also think there is room to take it back to its roots, to surfing. You can already see that with the surf skate and down hill communities growing.
Sometimes we just need to enjoy the push.
When we link up we will just PUSH.
Merry Christmas 🙏 my good friend.

So I finally got my commenting rights back after two back to back 3 months suspensions…thus I can comment. Yay. That G&S board reminds me of the shape of my second board I ever had, a Maui and Sons. My first board was a Nask, flat, no concave, sorta that standard shape with a bent tail. The Nash I got in 88’. The Maui and Sons must’ve been closer to 90’. My first double sided board, like the ones we have now was an ever slick. I don’t even know the make, but it had a graphic of a woody woodpecker type character with a smashed in beak with a cigar coming out of his mouth. I’ll never forget it. Funny cause it must’ve been a thing cause I saw a guy with that design on a hat a few months back and it made me remember it. My first little wheels were red translucent spitfires, something small like 50mm or something. I still have my last board from high school. The deck I spray painted so I don’t know the make. I think I was skating so little by then because of chicks that I was buying any blanks that had a shape I liked and skating them. Cheaper. My trucks still have all the heavy k grind marks and crooked 5-0 grinds in them, which I find pretty cool. Never thought about trying to piece my old decks together, but what you’re doing here sorta reminds me of my Pop who bought all his old baseball cards he had as a kid. I guess our generation had skateboards so maybe we’ll collect skateboards from our past. They’re a few decks I remember clearly that I’d like to own again to hang up. That could be neat. Don’t know if you ever saw the Girl skateboards reunion exhibit that had all the old Girl stuff set up in a museum in LA a few months back? I’d have enjoyed going to that exhibit. I saw decks I had and it brought back lots of memories. I was a huge fan of Girl Skateboards and their team. Also, was that the downtown where you live? It reminds me a lot of the downtown in my hometown, has that feel. 🤙🤙🤙

I definitely saw the Girl exhibit. It is not my generation but I appreciate it. We live in a time where you can. Rebuild your old boards either to have or to skate. To be it is finding a piece of the puzzle. It isn't just bringing back a memory, it brings back a feeling, but then provides a vehicle to new memories.

Could you in the future do a review on the bowl rider?

    • @AdventuresInSkateboarding
      @AdventuresInSkateboarding  6 месяцев назад +1

From what I understand, the team rider and the bowl rider will build similar in stiffness. The bowl rider is smaller. What I am going to do, switch the trucks out on this board for independent 109mm and really ride this bowl in the bowl.
When I do that I will see if I can look up the differences between the two boards.
Thank you for being a part of the adventure.

    • @AdventuresInSkateboarding
      @AdventuresInSkateboarding  6 месяцев назад

For sure 🤣. With the Rad Pad Riser, I had to use longer hardware and my skate tool didn't work with it. I was out at this park setting up the board and didn't want leave to get right tool. I searched my truck and found the vice grips in the glove box and went full send with them. 🤣.
But really, that the take away from the video? damn... I worked hard on this one. I quit 🤣🤣🤣
