    Thank you for the excellent video. I was stranded in Raleigh NC and had no other option but to sleep in the Prius. I was at a loss as to how to spend the night. Its a blessing that I stumbled across your no nonsense video. To the point, very well explained. I put my rolling suitcase in the stair well between the back seat and the front seat. It very conveniently closed the gap! I had a place to comfortably stretch my feet. Found some boxes in a dumpster which I cut open and spread on the back after folding the back seats flat like you showed. Spent the night sleeping under the sky in a drizzling rain and the wind gently rocking the car. Woke up to a gorgeous fall morning. Had one of the best sleep ever.
    GOD BLESS!

    I have taken several 10 to 14 day trips a year in my third gen Prius since 2014. My current method is the tote boxes and a tri-fold mattress like yours except mine is 25x75 inches. Works well without any trimming. I am 6' 4" and I am quite comfortable. I was not aware of the plywood method or folding the passenger seat down. Not sure if my passenger seat in the Gen 3 will fold that far back or not. Might give it a try next time. Thanks for sharing.

    • @ChasinSimplicity
      @ChasinSimplicity  4 года назад

      Thank you for sharing. Sounds like you really have it down! The third gen must be longer. I’m much shorter and almost touch the tailgate. I do the plywood hooked with paracord to the headrest on my 4runner. Works great!

    Inflatable backseat mattress. I camp in my prius. Longest trip was 3 months. I tried many arrangements before i found a backseat inflatable mattress. Covers backseat and footwells. I am 5'8" and i put the front passenger seat forward and folded down and put a pillow on that so i can stretch out completely. Excellent.
    Leaves entire trunk free for junk and you can forgo inflatable footwell pillar supports and use storage totes. Tip. Dont inflate mattress till hard. Its not a paddleboard. Inflate to your comfort level.

    I've used both seat configurations. Number 3 is the most comfortable, but it's a pain to set up. Number 1 is easier in that respect and still very comfortable. I like the rear seat down on both sides for more room, and I crawl into the back from the front seat. It's a bit like doing yoga. ;)

    After major back surgery I need a better bed. I take the passenger seat out and get my crib mattress and frame supported by milk crates and crutches. Doesn't look as good as yours but I get an excellent night sleep. Last time I slept in the Prius I parked in a handicap parking spot woke up before any business was to be conducted. I have handicap tags. I like the use of the small heater and heating pad could not imagine why you don't have an electric blanket. At home I have both the heating pad at my feet since they are usually begging for heat, and this allows me to run the electric blanket on lower setting. If I tried to satisfy my feet with the electric blanket I end up sweating. I wear wool socks and they still beg for warmth.

  • @bebopkirby
    @bebopkirby 3 года назад +1

    Tried sleeping in a Prius, for me it sucked. Tent-cot was a lot better solution for me. No putting up blackout shades on windows, or bug screening to get air into car, and no being a contortionist to get in and out of bed. A tent-cot is fast to set up (no stakes), and way more comfortable. Of course if you are trying to dodge the cost of a motel by staying in a Walmart parking lot, then a tent-cot might not be your thing.

    Cool set up. I like the option of removing the headrest & folding the front seat all the way down since I am 6’3” & it seems that would give me the most room length wise. You have the 2008 Gen 2 Prius i see. I plan to get a Gen 3(2010-2015) but I heard that the front seats in the Gen 3 don’t fold all the way down. Do you know if that’s true? Thanks!

    • @ChasinSimplicity
      @ChasinSimplicity  4 года назад

      I’m not 100% sure on that. I never looked for one. I think certain ones for sure do not good flat like the Prius prime since it has a larger battery. Either way you are longer than you are tall as when you lay down your spine decompresses and you gain length over when you stand, I would go try a couple out in real life. That is what I did. You learn a lot laying in the back of one! Thanks for watching

    A fourth stealthy method. Take two to four naps. Two to four parking locations. Curl up across back seat with two very small but firm pillows.
    You can acclimate to this and sleep soundly. An eye mask and earplugs can improve this greatly for some people. Very stealthy. Wear dark clothing.

    • @DominicI1
      @DominicI1 3 года назад

      The answer is yes it is possible. The easiest way about it would be to put the passenger seat flush with the back seat as shown in the video, and then use two pillows. One to make up for the lower level of the seat and another for the main pillow. The most comfortable way about it would be to buy a self inflating sleeping pad with a built In air pillow. The air pillow sucks for normal use, but Is absolutely perfect for making up the slight downward slope of the seat. Add a normal pillow on top of that and you are golden. It really sucks when you are a tall person and also are uncomfortable sleeping crunched up, but thankfully there are still some options when it comes to sleeping in your Prius.

      They are pretty cool for sure. However, if you are planning on traveling in one I can’t suggest enough to rent one even for a day, throw a bed in the back and sleep in it. Nothing elaborate. But if uncomfortable sleep is happening you will not enjoy. Just my perspective. Good luck!

      Thanks for the comment but I have not heard of that. I would think it would matter a lot where you are and what you park near. I do know that companies make devices that you put under the hood to drive away all sorts of pests. Not sure how well they work though, sorry!
