I love how they somehow managed to combine Deadly Alliance, Deception, and Armageddon into a single game
And made the shittiest storyboard possible
Just like 9 did with three games of its own
Although I would have loved them to take their time and adapt the games individually
That was perfect idea. That's why i like Mk1.

What I find fascinating about Mortal Kombat is how despite getting several soft reboots they still consider every entry as canon and pay respects to the stories of the prior games, no matter how silly or outlandish they were.
I would say that MK1 is not a soft reboot. It's a complete restart, it has changed the background of every character, some of them a little and some of them completely. Only Liu Kang maintains his old background story but that happened eons ago so he's basically a new character.
They were made by professionals. Yes it may be mediocre but they gave their best to deliver what they were hired to do.
They don't seem to respect what was established previously though.
MkX and 11 imo made that blatantly clear.

Ngl MK1 was a breath of fresh air on the series. Stayed true to the core elements of the series but gave fresh new takes on the lore. I love how it gave Reptile, Baraka, and Meleena characters development and turned them into proper role players and protagonists. Also the dynamic between Subzero and Scorpion is good too by making them blood brothers so they actually have a real reason to be at odds. Very well written game

@@chrispink9716 Kuai Liang is the second sub-zero after Bi Han's Death before Liu Kang changed the timeline. After the change, Kuai Liang is the Scorpion. On this timeline He separated from Bi Han and makes a new Clan name Shirai Ryu, and Hanzo is the first apprentice of Kuai Liang on the new timeline
It really was and there are no more goofy or disappointing plot points like having a series favorite die to a new character or just having 2 heros watch and do nuthin as the bad gives himself a major buff
I still think the pyramid Fight was the best MK promo material to date! It was just perfect, down to the last minute detail.

God I love the scene in MK11 when it shows the eternal struggle between Raiden and Liu Kang. The constant cuts between the different version of them fighting is dope.

From shinnok asking Raiden if he wants a pie, quanchi looking like hes asking for a time out when his leg got elbowed, shao khan blasting people with the hammer, darrius getting thrown off the pyramid itself, stryker sucker punching the shit out of mileena 😂, sheeva getting told by cyrax to screw her, johnny cage nonchantly pushing sonya off and shang tsung turning old at the worst possible time.
Netherrealm Studios legitimately combined every timeline into one game and so far, hasn’t had any discrepancies like Marvel or DC would… so incredible

I remember being a kid and having Armageddon on the ps2, and ALWAYS watching this intro scene for it. Lui Kang revealed as a zombie after deception, all the weird, wacky, yet badass characters they had on it. Happy they made it lore accurate too

MK1 actually ran through the story of entire first few games from mortal kombat the original up to Armageddon just before the reboot of mk 9
It also had some hints of x just without the Kombat kids or the special forces.

@@Deathmare235 how does it set up 9 when the endings for both Shao Kahn and Raiden differ in Armageddon? There’s nothing that indicates they’re both from the same timeline at all. Even the main question still stands, how did Shao Kahn make it back to the pyramid when Onaga took him? Why was Kung Lao trapped in those huge skeleton hands by Shinnok when it was Raiden in Armageddon? And where was Taven or Blaze?
It’s a different timeline.
I like how there's so much dramatic focus on how well Scorpion can run up stairs.
I still say the Battle of Armageddon was overall better in Armageddon than in MK1. It might be due to nostalgia reasons, but I also think that it might be due to how the war had multiple individual fighters trying to kill each other, as opposed to MK1's battle where they're battling different versions of themselves from different multiverses.
And while yes, it is true that every version of the fighters are different, like a female version of Ermac or a version of Sonya who became her universe's equivalent of Kano as some examples, but my personal problem with this is how we see countless counterparts but know next to nothing about them. Many of them have next to no lines of dialogue and are seen being nothing more than fodder for the heroes to beat, with the occasion of seeing the hero side losing a few fighters here and there. Plus, because this is a multiversal war, and because the multiverse is virtually endless, seeing someone get killed in this war is more or less a hiccup instead of something tragic. Like, when I saw Ninja Mime Johnny Cage get killed by Goro during this wad, I didn't feel a sense of tragedy because I know that in another multiverse, another version of that Johnny Cage is still alive. Or, if that isn't the case, there are still countless versions of Johnny Cages that are still around. Again, it kinda defeats the purpose if you're supposed to feel a sense of suspension if that same same suspension is ruined due to the concepts of the Multiverse/Alternate Timelines.
Armageddon, on the other hand, because it was a war where everyone in that one timeline was participating, whenever someone gets killed, they stay dead. Like one of the first to fall was Li Mei. She gets stabbed in the stomach by Hotaru at the beginning of the Battle of Armageddon. And from that point, she remained dead. In fact, at the very end of the Battle of Armageddon, only two were standing; Dark Raiden and Shao Kahn. Of which Shao Kahn was the one who managed to achieve victory and acquired the Power of Armageddon, threatening all of existence in all the realms. It got so bad that, before he was killed, Dark Raiden showed his past self imagines of events that he had to change before the Battle of Armageddon can take place.
Very much agree. The original was actually well written and a fantastic ending to a great franchise. The MK1 one was just purely fan service and hardly made sense tbh. Excluding Titan Shang, I'd hoped we dropped the multiverse crap by now

So I agree with you that the inclusion of the multiverse means 1 dead Johnny means notging when there is an infinite possible Johnny Cages out in other universes. That said, death is also meaningless in MK with how often someone dies just to come back. Johnny Cage died innthe battle of MK3, Lui Kang died in DA, Raiden died in Deception, Shoa Khan died in MK3 and DA, Reptile died in DA, Sindel was dead, Bi-Han died, hell, the most popular MK character is a literal dead guy who came bqcknfor revenge as a hellspawn. MK9 literally killed the entire roster but they are all baxk by X as revenants and some are even fully revived. So yes while so many of the variants are from multiverses and doesnt matter if they die or not, it also didn't matter before or after Armageddon if someone died

In Mortal Kombat 9 or Raiden's memories of different timelines generated by Kronika, notice how Liu Kang emphasizes this phrase. In MK9 or in the memory, you can see that he pronounces it with anger and hatred. Hatred for Raiden, who blames him for just letting their friends die. In MK11, where Liu Kang learns that Raiden can't be trusted, he emphasizes the phrase as if it leaves him no choice but to kill Raiden to end this madness. As we all know, this was all Kronika's doing to eliminate Raiden and Liu Kang as her most dangerous opponents

It seems that the Armageddon temple is another fixed point in time it eventually always leads there
It's funny how Shang Tsung's timeline was collapsing after he was defeated, but didn't after Lord Liu Kang left and then Titan Havik showed up at the end.
I wonder what Fujin of Shangs Timeline is Gonna Do Now.
I was already having a great time playing through the story, But after Damashi appeared. I knew the rest of the game was going to be crazy. Shame Onaga never showed up, but maybe next sequel, he’ll come and grab Havik from the pyramid and fly away or something.

Zombie Liu Kang was so badass
So i baught a ps2 again luckily i never sold the games so i be playing mk Armageddon and mk Shaolin Monks
Notice just how much characterization there is in the interactions in the original Armageddon intro. Kenshi saving Ermac, who taught him the tele-slam; it appearing that Ermac is going to return the favor only for it to be Shang Tsung breaking up the Deadly Alliance, Liu Kang getting his revenge, etc. Now notice how little there is in 1's reimagining. Just infinite clones of characters, all lacking the motivations that made the original Armageddon so intriguing. A schlock fest of meaningless cameos. Infinite timelines, yet the writers only seem to have had one idea, turning character x into character y. Disappointing.
Armageddon was just too peak. As soon as i seen the pyramid i was like oh god its Armageddon 😂 Its crazy how many individual characters there were.

The beginning of MK9 implies that immediately after the armageddon cutscene, liu kang forced shang tsung to die before dying himself, raiden was the one to defeat blaze, and then shao khan somehow came back to fight him.
Shao killed Blaze, that's why he had his power instead of Raiden. Also that was just Liu's soulless body, his spirit spectated the entire fight
