Austrian here, and this definitely makes me wanna make some Kaiserschmarrn for dinner tonight. From my region we often go for a plum compote instead of berries. Never done a boozy version myself, but sounds delish! :D
Austrian here & I would recommend baking it under a grill in the oven instead of doing it on the hob. Also, sprinkle it with sugar before putting it in the oven. It results in a way fluffier Kaiserschmarrn with a caramelised, crunchy top.
austrian here. you did a pretty good job. actually you eat kaiserschmarrn with a plum compote thats spiced with a little bit of cloves and rum. also you can add a dash of sparkling water to the batter to make it more fluffy. and I suggest warming the pan on the hob, pouring the batter in and then finishing it in the oven. that way it rises more and you get even more fluffiness
The mishap of flipping reminds me of Julia Child when she would have a mishap and she would work right through it- I didn’t know it was sautéed in butter- Yes on the rum- total winter comfort breakfast!
I ate kaiserschmarrn every day when I was in Austria and have been trying to master the recipe since! will have to try this soon--thank you Austrian friends in the comments for the helpful tips. One of my favorite dishes ever!
I love seeing your clock in the background. It gives me an idea of how long the whole process takes. Started at 12:56 and finished at 13:39. Less than an hour total! So it'll take me all morning! LOL I am super excited to try this!
I like how Donal tried to say it right..I work in Austria for almost 20years and I love Kaiserschmarn, traditionally it's served with plums roaster.. it's plums compot roasted .. very yammy :)
Lovely recipe Donal. I remember when you use to make recipes from your wife's country. It's always great to see things from other countries which is something you are great at bringing to us.

Hey hey I’d say he did berry cos plum compote isn’t very popular here but berry is 🤗
I am German, but I can tell you, that reminds me of the comfort of having a Kaiserschmarren after a long day of skiing in the Austrian alps:)

Looks delicious 👌🏻 Greetings from Scotland 😊 Have a wonderful day everyone 🌻
In Austria we would not have it with Berry compote... Applesauce or Plum compote.. And a lot of raisins in the batter!

I am American and I’ve never heard of this but now I know I need this in my life
Aww it reminds me of winter days in my grandma's house when I was wee (minus the rum lol), you def killed it! 10/10 Austrian approved
Donal, I think someone had the messed up pancake before you did. Imagine what happened in the Kaiser’s Kitchens.

Making meringue while whisking it by hand is tiring. Kudos to you, Donal!
Kaiserschmarren mit rote Grütze. Definitely a good idea Donal thank you !
From Slowenia, the country next to Austria. You did a great job! 😄
I will just skip the egg and use yeast.
Is not the universal recipe of the original pancake vegan?
I love Kaiserschmarrn!! We usually eat it with apple sauce.
Lovely recipe Donal. I remember when you use to make recipes from your wife's country. It's always great to see things from other countries which is something you are great at bringing to us.
Hey I'm from India , and love your recipes .
And love the way you explain , hope soon you will do something from Indian cuisine 💓💓💓💓
Nice Western recipes and dishes are a fundamental in India's scam call centres. Did you know that?
Underrated treat. I used to make this sometimes on weekends. 👍
That looks delicious!! Do have the written directions to go with the ingredients? That would be very helpful :)

Where do you get your vanilla bean paste?
You can find it on Amazon, at least in the U.S. and U.K. ...
@@jeannieK1117 I’ll keep looking for it, it’s not that easy to find in Belgium
@@biendereviere There also is a company in the U.S., King Arthur Flour: THINK they ship internationally. Good luck! Cannot wait to make this!
In the end perfect pronunciation 👍😉
We Germans love it as well and have Kaiserschmarrn quite often😍
Would it be ok to make the compote and pancake in advance and then do the last steps later? Anyway it looks delicious !

Good morning Donal 👋,
Do you have a Sachertorte video? If not, I think you should. It’s quite the decadent dessert.
Yum! 😀❤
I didn’t realise Scrambled Pancakes was a thing. I like them round and whole. I might change my mind though.
Trust Donal to make Delectable Desserts, which we love!
I hope this isn’t like an Italian Fiasco. Austrians, be nice 😂
