- Does it get any better than this? We had perfect conditions for our sail home and first time offshore. What a feeling. Engine off. Sails up. Making 6 knots on a beam reach. Watch as we go from sailing to selling all of our remaining stuff on our journey to leading a minimalistic life.

Hi guys My name is Rodrigo I am 15 years old, I found your chanel today in the morning, saw all your videos, loved them, the only thing I wanted to say was that I hope to one day be like you and give everything out for your dreams I hope one day sail the 7 seas. (Sorry for my vocaubulary I am Mexican)
Hi Rodrigo, thanks so much for following our adventure! If we can do it, so can you mate. Shoot us an email at abandoncomfort@yahoo.com and let's see if we can help with getting your dream going :)
Great again.
DJ ́R your English looks great Rodrigo 👌🏻
DJ ́R Your English is better than many of the people I encounter on a daily basis in the USA. Keep working hard. You are obviously an intelligent young man. And follow your dreams.
If you stay out of debt, and save as much as you can, you'll be well on your way!
I want to find a girl that will get excited when the shore power hardware comes in from Amazon! You have a keeper!
amen to that
Please consider having the music and voice at the same volume level so folks won't have to constantly adjust the volume control.
Voice/speech should actually be +3 dB higher than everything else. That way it's very easy to pick what you want to listen to.
Glad I found your channel! Its a breath of fresh air from the countless click bait trash out there. I look forward to watching you guys learn and grow from experience!
No click bait here. What you see is what you get. Appreciate you following along :)
We will be moving from a 6 bedroom 3 full baths 3200sqft house on 3/4 acer of land. into a class B plus motorhome with a 12 foot trailer to put my Cam Am Spyder and few tool into... We have 40 years worth of stuff to be rid of and my wife won't let me sell anything and that upsets me because that money we could use. But goodwill and other type of thrift stores are loving her. I'm crying seeing all the money we spent just leaving the house and no money in my pocket... LOL...
I'm very happy for you kids you've worked hard to get to where you are so it's ok to be proud of yourselves... Happy sail to you...
I see this couple and this channel doing quite well, they have drive and desire to succeed, they make a good team, plus they did their homework on purchasing your first boat. I just downsized, I was living aboard a 44 Privilege Catamaran, but my now ex girlfriend moved back to Nashville, so I had no need for such a big boat, so I sold it and bought a DANA 24, she is an amazing little boat, very blue water capable, and her cabin is really spacious and so pretty, She's all the boat I need, I'm just going to cruise the Florida coastlines for the next ?????? years.
You could not have expressed the feeling of heeling over and scooting off, more eloquently, well done
Thank you, Gordon :) Can't beat the feeling and can't get enough of it!
Just became a Patron!! Y'all are da best!!
Thank you so much! Welcome to the AC crew :)
You're allowed to film in West Marine. We do all the time. Ours is in San Pedro in Southern California, and they've seen us come in with our GoPro many times. The local store there evidently had some paranoid people working there.
Fist bump on that mattress/prius maneuver. My cheap heart shed a pride tear.
Haha! I'm still shocked we fit that thing in there. Thanks for following along :)
Good to see y'all are finally getting some float time under canvas as well as motor hrs in your new vessel. You've not yet bitten off enough time aboard to feel safe with not only your knowledge but to trust your craft. All that will come with time spent understanding the ways of your sailboat and amount of time put in learning the ways of the sea. No critique coming from me, we all had to learn and make a few mistakes (hopefully not to expensive nor life threatening) in our respective vessels and as well with there will be times (trust me here) that you will be at sea and find yourself thinking "how again did I think I could do this" or "what did I get us into", just happens, really quick. My wife and I started with a 23 foot vessel and through some years went through 3 more sailing craft of different beams and LOA until our final sailboat (and love of our lives) a 64' Ketch rig we could handle with short crew of two. Good sailing to you both, treat your floating home like the lady she is, take care of her, never ask of her anything she wasn't meant to do and she will always bring you to your next landfall safely (maybe shaken a bit but not stirred). Oh, now, now, I'm a Floridian and we know lightning, so, Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela is rated as the most lightning prone place per strokes per area in the world but Florida has the most cities with a proportionally high human count, ergo, Floridians get zapped..... Stay safe, fined a good 20 knot breeze and ride the wind.
Awesome! Good for you guys. I love that song that was in the first half during your trip.
The fun begins! Enjoy!
So happy for you! It is refreshing to see the pursuit of unconventional ideals. The experiences aboard will live forever. Tight lines....anxiously awaiting updates.
You're totally right about the parallels between surfing and sailing. I noticed the same feeling the first time I sailed. It's cool harnessing nature's forces.
Your story is very inspiring, it really makes me want to try one more time to get me another sailboat, after two losses maybe the third time's a charm... can't wait to see your next video.
great sense of music and theatrical scale. Love it, do it right for the lovely lady!!
Thank you!! We're doing it all for our swedish lady :)
Congrats on the sale! Go forth and enjoy the boat! Learn all ya can and have great adventures. We will be casting off the lines next year. Fair winds! Charles from Houston, also!
And so the real adventure begins - good luck
Agree with the comfortable bed, a must!

Great stuff guys. Very happy to see such young people switch from the conventional lifestyle to such an alternative lifestyle. I'm preparing to travel from So. Cal down the Pan American Highway to South America while we await out new boat being built in Argentina. Very excited for us and we're very excited for you. Keep up the good work.
really enjoying the videos, like the way you are honest but with a sense of humour. Keep it up, great work.

Living the life of the living! Thank you!
Love this channel. My BF and I are talking about moving onto a boat (with kids) he's found someone to teach us to sail... Your journey makes me believe that it's possible. For now, we're out messing around in his motorboat dropping our crab pots and dreaming ;-) Keep your videos coming.
love the mattress bit. Especially in contrast to your first video about what you were looking for in a boat.
Hey, good travels you guy's⛵, one door closes another just opened and you two were brave enough to go trough, that's an achievement in off itself 👍😆.
YESSS I love the "Set Sail" song. It's literally my favorite I listen to is always. Haha

Just discovered you guys today and binged watched the first 6 episodes. Really like what your doing and how in-depth you go with your experiences. I will be buying a sail boat soon and starting a new life on the big blue too. I look forward to following your adventure and who knows, maybe our paths will pass one day. Good luck with everything your doing. ✌️

Inspiring speech.
your videos are very inspiring I soon will be heading down to Florida from Iowa to seek out my dream of living on a boat and traveling the blue sea thanks for the awesome videos they have helped reinsure me on my journey thanks again for the amazing videos and happy sailing
I have a friend with a sailboat there. "Sweat Melissa" is the name. 52 ft. hunter. Great place to be.
Love your adventure, you are in for a huge treat when you get to the Caribbean! ...and I have to say, for a man brought up on Motor Boats (often called Stink Boats by sailors) ;) you have outstanding taste in sailing boats... Good luck and fair winds...
A little advice for the future, check the small marine shops. Return business can usually get you discounts or even better prices.
love the channel, I'm from NJ , I hope to have a sailboat someday once I retire, I have 8 years of work left..... stay safe...
I have quite a few episodes to watch I see it's like buying a box set glad I found your Chanel 😁 eyes sweating not heard that saying before 😪😂😂😂
Great episode guys... both Kelly and I know the struggles of downsizing. I did it from a 4 bedroom house 4 years ago, then again with Kelly and her apartment 6 months ago. (I think she had more stuff than me though😳). Not an easy task... you done good. See you out there!
You have a lot of learning to do. The Caribbean is a great place to learn. Do a lot anchoring.
you did good on selling your stuff. i moved into a smaller place to save money and ended up throwing more stuff away. another great vidio btw.
I just discovered you guys from the great mention over on the Learning The Lines page. Great stuff. This all fascinates me, even though I have no desire to sail and in fact I get seasick just standing on a dock. LOL
You and Kelsey both! Haha. Thanks for the comment & thanks for finding us! Randi & Jordan are good friends of ours.
Leaving a loved home is always hard, but looking forward to your adventures aboard your sailing vessel should lesson that sadness. Super that you were able to sell or leave so much of your "stuff". Just remember that's all it was but "stuff" that can be replaced someday if you need to. Take from an old fart, LIFE is what is important not the stuff in it! I am so looking forward to your sharing of your upcoming life.
Fair Winds
Here is some research for you to do... Your dinghy should be towed at a specific distance according to swell. Wicked Salty lost their dinghy probably due to not letting enough painter out. I am not an expert but I have read a lot about this.
you guys are so rad! My wife and I are seriously considering getting a sail boat and bringing it back home to Fiji! Thanks for posting your adventures! Learning so much! did you guys do a course in sailing or just learn growing up with family/ friend mentors?
Great.
Port Supply discount FTW. On some stuff the discount is quite considerable. When we lose our access after we stop sailing with our club/sailing school I'm going to seriously cry. Also, you can look at the WM website and when you are looking at the product page you can click on "find in store" and it should tell you if they have it in stock at any nearby store by typing in your current zip code. I don't think WM is all that exorbitant, but that is because I've got a PortSupply account and after spending $10k+ on upgrading our HR-35 I think my calibration as to what boat parts prices are has been adjusted upwards. Right now I'm upgrading everything and buying everything while we still have access to PortSupply.
We have our own queen sized super eco-mattress which we purchased "a la carte" and it's really just 2 layers of 4" foam with a nice zip-up mattress cover and no poisonous carcinogenic fire-retardant crap inside to breathe in when we are sleeping on it. You can't buy a regular mattress today without that unless you build it yourself. When we move out of our condo the foam is going to be cut up to replace the foam in our current V-berth and maybe even part of the aft cabin cushions as well. We have gotten pretty good at cutting foam with an electric carving knife when making the cushions for our main cabin. Replacing the foam using our old mattress foam in the rest of the boat should be a snap.
Did you make much money from selling your stuff? We have a lot of crap and I'm not sure it's worth the effort to haul out and sit all day trying to sell. We plan on just donating everything to friends and to worthy thrift shops. Selling it will be sort of painful and spending days in the yard haggling over prices with strangers on our life's possessions sounds like it would be heartbreaking. Better to just pack it up and haul it out. Maybe we can find someplace that is willing to just come pick it all up. That would be the least painful way to let it all go. What's a few hundred dollars anyhow? Anything of real value we will be giving away to friends and most of my nice tools that aren't just Harbor Freight junk will be in storage at my parent's house.
Wow.. The original Pirates Bay
its getting real..
Cute couple!
What are your plans to fix her up? Will you refinish the teak decking? Do you have a time table?
He he he he West Marine. It's actually a cool store and from the video, the one you walked into is like 10 times larger than the ones here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Yes their prices are steep but their inventory is complete and some items [like their dinghy jackets] and house-brand stuff are competitive in pricing. Good service too! #mantears
Great videos as always. Hey what is the name of that song you play at the end of your videos? Good tunes. Glad you guys are producing more videos each month. Thanks.
When My Ship Sets Sail at 4:00
Can you give a link/credit for that song? Me likes it! :)
The fairleads are to control the lines to your roller reefed jib?
laughed so hard seeing that mattress in your tiny car
That box that you wanted to know about is called a nav- text.......
You can research it easy enough
What is this awesome mattress? My solution is it to cut up a generic 7 inch foam mattress plus a 2 inch super soft topper. Works.
Ryan and Kelsey,
I stumbled across your RUclips channel and I was watching
your episodes. My family and I are locals, live in Tampa, work in St. Pete. My
wife and I are ASA 104 certified and I have done a bit of extensive racing in
Tampa Bay and beyond (Cuba). I am also US Sailing Small Boat Level 1 Instructor
Certified.
I am also quite handy and helped several people fixing their
cruising boats. So I wanted to reach out to see if you guys wanted any help,
instruction, or need anything since we are local.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
enjoying the journey. is the maker of your boat still in business, where was your boat manufactured? and what is your haul speed? I like the interior layout, not too much teak , a good balanced of teak and glass
I really enjoy your video's! My wife and I are working towards buying a boat and saving enough $$ to quit are jobs sell are house and all of are stuff and set sail!
P.s my father died on the Blackthorne your mention of it caught me by surprise.
Thank you to your father for his service. I was CG myself so I'm always looking to plug some Coast Guard history! Thanks for watching guys :) - Ryan
I'm from the Netherlands and I once sailed to st Petersburg and into the beautiful Tampa bay harbor and Docket at a place named; Hookers point o_~ lol !
Like your videos. All I can say is post more videos.
hi there,
just subscribed, can't wait for the next video!
could you please let me know which artist and sons is playing during episode 6? I'd like to hear some more.
good luck on refitting the boat and may the wind blow in your favor!!
Joost
Just binge watched all of your videos...start to finish. We're really liking your channel so far. I have a question though; do you get contacted by RUclips for using copyrighted music or is this music royalty free? We're just curious because we used one dang song that wasn't royalty free and we were contacted pretty quickly by RUclips. Love the channel and your senses of humor. ❤️
Thanks for watching guys!! Our first 2 episodes have copyrighted music and RUclips just says you can't monetize with those songs. Every episode after is royalty free!
Hey that looks alot like the Sanabel lighthouse!
Hope you guys are cutting the lines to head out for good soon.
10:20 LOL
Ok, am I the only one that is dying in suspense over finding out what stuff sold in your "yard sale", and how much you made? (Not the total of each day, just that last pile?)
Lol!
Oh and I forgot to mention, I like the music in the videos.
Hey guys! The video where you're shooting at the lighthouse, looks familiar.. probably from tula's endless summer channel! Do look out for them, they're just like you guys too! (except they have a dog named Jetty)
OK, I'm a power boater, but I have sailed. Can you explain why your tell-tails are hanging straight down? Shouldn't they be streaming aft?
I want to get a 20' Shipping Container to move all my things into. Plus they can be put behind a fence so there safe. Plus there big enough to park a Vehicle in.
enjoying ur vids, whats ur spotify ID, can't get link to work
Are you guys in the muni marina downtown or Vinoy?
13:58- what is going on with the lashing on that shroud?
What are you using to film
Not sure if I missed it or it wasn't in here up till now, but how did the boat get from NY to FL? Where is the dog you had up in NY? Why did you have 2 residence?
Did you hand steer? Is your auto-pilot ready to go?
