I met this guy at the Birmingham Memorabilia last week. Such a frail old guy nowadays....told him that he had given me endless amounts of joy in my life with his performances. He gave me the sweetest smile before signing a picture to me... Easily one of the best things I've done in my life, so far!
Nice surprise to see you in the comments of this. And thanks for sharing that experience eight years ago! It's not a stretch to say that Moodys Fagin has influenced a good portion of your delivery and performance.
I was lucky enough to have been "touched" by this musical in two ways. I have met the great Ron Moody, my mother taught his children at primary school in North London, and a pleasure and an honour it was. I also worked with Lionel Bart's niece and I know that Moody was in mind when Barty wrote the musical. As someone else said a great Fagin, only bettered by Sir Alex Guinness in the "straight" film - though that was much darker.
The best performance in a fine movie full of memorable performances. When I was in amateur theatre I used to replay his scenes in this film over and over and just marvel at his expressions, his gestures, what he could do with his eyes...everything! God bless and RIP Ron Moody.
This song is my favorite song from Oliver! Ron Moody made a great Fagin.Interesting in that in the 1970 TV movie David Copperfield,he portrayed Uriah Heep.(Heep was also a villain.:-))

In those days, the Oscars really missed a lot of great performances from across the pond. Many actors such as Richard Burton, Peter O’Toole and others were not given the recognition they deserve - and this particular performance definitely is one of them. And now, seeing it again after so many years, I think it’s even better than I thought it was. Ron Moody’s Fagin is one of those performances / characterizations for the history books.
Ron Moody was brilliant in this. He plays the greedy thief very well but also gives him so much depth. This song always made me sad because you see that he is trapped in this life and is trying to find a way out. Especially the part where he says "Who do I know- nobody!"

I had heard of Consider Yourself and often referenced it, but didn’t know the story or watched anything of it. I then watched a non-musical version as well and enjoyed it, but then I watched this and absolutely adored it 😊
What a great film this was and how well it has stood the passage of time. Every character was so well cast and acted, even in the minor parts, they could not have been improved upon. And of course Ron Moody was supreme. Anyone else playing the part subsequently must have been dreading the comparison with Moody's Fagin. Unbeatable, but its success ruined its creator, Lionel Bart.
I honestly love this film and I love all the choreography and lyrics since they are all well done! I also found out Ron Moody wasn’t going to be Fagin until the other two actors rejected the role of Fagin
The best movie of all time " ron moody " classic performance of all time " reviewing the situation was a outstanding part of this great movie " Brian Margolis
GREAT number for such a long time into the movie by a secondary character. Oliver is such a good movie, doesn't have the "all the good numbers are in the first half" problem that so many had.
When I was still a little child, it was this guy who showed me that it was okay to become a grownup. He was such a fun character, just as silly as his boys.

I think this is the sentiment that guy in godfather had when he said they pull him back in.
wonderful song--performance--film. In my top 3. This will NEVER be equalled, let alone bettered.
Philip Croft ur other 2?
Lyrics
A man's got a heart, hasn't he?
Joking apart, hasn't he?
And tho' I'd be the first one to say that I wasn't a saint
I'm finding it hard to be really as black as they paint
I'm reviewing the situation
Can a fellow be a villain all his life?
All the trials and tribulations!
Better settle down and get myself a wife.
And a wife would cook and sew for me,
And come for me, and go for me,
And go for me, and nag at me,
The fingers, she will wag at me.
The money whe will take me.
A misery, she'll make from me...
I think I'd better thing it out again!
A wife you can keep, anyway
I'd rather sleep, anyway.
Left without anyone in the world,
And I'm starting from now
So "how to win friends and to influence people"
So how?
I'm reviewing the situation,
I must quickly look up ev'ryone I know.
Titled people -- with a station
Who can help me make a real impressive show!
I will own a suite at Claridges,
And run a fleet of carriages,
And wave at all the duchesses
With friendliness, as much as is
Befitting of my new estate...
"Good morrow to you, magistrate!" Oh gawd!
I think I'd better think it out again.
So where shall I go -- somebody?
Who do I know? Nobody!
All my dearest companions
Have always been villains and thieves...
So at my time of life
I should start turning over new leaves?
I'm reviewing the situation.
If you want to eat -- you've got to earn a bob!
Is it such a humiliation
For a robber to perform an honest job?
So a job I'm getting, possibly,
I wonder who my boss'll be?
I wonder if he'll take to me...?
What bonuses he'll make to me...?
I'll start at eight and finish late,
At normal rate, and all.but wait!
I think I'd better think it out again.
What happens when I'm seventy?
Must come a time... seventy.
When you're old, and it's cold
And who cares if you live or you die,
Your one consolation's the money
You may have put by...
I'm reviewing the situation.
I'm a bad 'un and a bad 'un I shall stay!
You'll be seeing no transformation,
But it's wrong to be a rogue in ev'ry way.
I don't want nobody hurt for me,
Or made to do the dirt for me.
This rotten life is not for me.
It's getting far too hot for me.
There is no in between for me
But who will change the scene for me?
Don't want no one to rob for me.
But who will find a job for me,
I think I'd better think it out again!
The best part is when he’s going down the stairs and he says,”A normal rate, and all, but wait!” That killed me.
May his soul be bound in the bundle of everlasting life. :(
Fagin par excellence.
My class watched a non musical version of Oliver it ain't as good as this
I had heard of Consider Yourself and often referenced it, but didn’t know the story or watched anything of it. I then watched a non-musical version as well and enjoyed it, but then I watched this and absolutely adored it 😊
Amazing, all my stressess and anxiety are lifted just for the moments I watch this...
Any specific reason why it's 4:20 long?
because is ron moody
I saw Ron Moody as Tom Gudgeon in Midnight is a Place. I hadn't seen Oliver in years so I didn't even know it was Fagin I was looking at XD
2020 we're reviewing the situation.
I think I better think out again!
I LOVE the movie Oliver sooooooooo much:):):)
What an amazing actor!! I was surprised that the BBC dint recognise him
Mike Cawley They actually offered him the part of Dr Who (which he turned down and subsequently regretted)
Fagin + The Artful Dodger = Fantastic
Rest in Peace Ron Moody you shifty Pick Pocketer!
Thank you for this, Mister Moody!
Judgemental Owl FTW
I love how he looks at 4:03-4:05: "Are you serious?"
ShakespeareanWannabe Whooo...?😉
He must know my love. They cook and sew and so many other things...but they also nag at me an wags fingers at me among many other things...
Of all the options available, only the thought of an 8 - 5 job caused him to run back inside XD
I honestly love this film and I love all the choreography and lyrics since they are all well done!
I also found out Ron Moody wasn’t going to be Fagin until the other two actors rejected the role of Fagin
No one else could possibly have equalled Moody's genius; he was a model villain, lol ~
“Who do I know? Nobody”
I loved this video, hope you do too!

The best movie of all time " ron moody " classic performance of all time " reviewing the situation was a outstanding part of this great movie " Brian Margolis
Absolutely incredible work and such a great song because it shows the humanity without taking away the fact that he is a thief and exploiter of humans
But also entirely likely he had the same kind of childhood

RIP Ron! Thank you for wonderful performances.
I've always wondered how none of the kids woke up with all this racket going on. amazing.
I am crushed by the realization that all my potential thoughts, ideas and emotions have been totally anticipated from time immemorial...
Adam Kenney Friedlander I knew you were going to say that.
You know, with the amount Fagin talks to himself and sings, it's amazing non of the boys wake up XD
Maybe they're awake but pretending to be asleep so they can enjoy a free performance.
GREAT number for such a long time into the movie by a secondary character. Oliver is such a good movie, doesn't have the "all the good numbers are in the first half" problem that so many had.
Wow! Incredible! Love Fagin!!!
Fagin+Nancy= Fancy...I used to totally ship...still do 😢😍😢😍😢😍😍😍😢😢😢
Nancy in the book is Fagin's adopted daughter.
O.O
96 Alpha puts a dark spin on that ship, doesn't it? 😨
GODDAMNIT BILL SYKES
My Dad used to sing this to me when i was little
He's not Ron Moody, he's Fagin Amazing.
Mazal Tav Ron Moody.
Here In 2020!! One Of The Trillest Songs Ever Made..
Unrivalled. As simple as that.
When I was still a little child, it was this guy who showed me that it was okay to become a grownup. He was such a fun character, just as silly as his boys.
One of the best musicals of all time
Yes it is 💯💯💯😊❤
love the oliver twist songs
