I literally never comment on RUclips but I just had to let you know that although you're relatively new to RUclips you've taught me so much just about general life and have helped me discover different techniques that I wasn't even aware of. I'm so glad I stumbled onto your channel a couple months back because each video you put out has given me an opportunity to learn more (recently watched the one about the birth of Venus and wow literally a 100/10 video) like I don't want to make you feel pressured or anything but even you saying that you make yourself accountable for your lazy times and how you incorporate it into your schedule was kinda eye opening for me because I never considered it that way. Thank you for providing new perspectives to things because a lot of other advice on this platform can be very generic and repetitive. Just thank youuuu in general for making these video's, I'm pretty sure whatever you put out I can enjoy and learn from :D
Yes Second Brain has helped me soo much, especially for creatives, it's a must, we don't realise it's significance until we start using it. Thank you Elizabeth for mentioning and bringing clarity to the significance of second brain. Looking forward to more videos related to your systems, very much eager to know about systems. More Love to you ❤️
Your line "Brain making connections" vs "Brain storing information". That is so TRUE!! Because biologically/scientifically we make more neuronal connections when we add/delete habits!! Hashtag Atomic Habits by James Clear and hashtag Charles Duhigg's book Power of Habit.
1:58 : Honestly that completely changes my perspective on my self education the past few years. Having come out of the rat-race of college, I've been feeling for years that my memory of things is very limited and fleeting, but I also flood myself with new information I think is important every single day and feel awful when I don't remember most of those connections. There's no way I can hold onto that much info and that "174 newspapers" really puts things in perspective. Spinning up my second brain right now...
I almost feel like crying at how relatable this is. For quite a few months now, I've been thinking that there's something wrong with my brain because I can't remember any of the info I deemed important. But the truth is that I consume a SHIT TON of info every day because I'm also a multi-passionate person and I feel like I have to know everything. I'm still concerned, tho', but at least I've discovered that it isn't uncommon.
"brains are for making connections not storing information" - one thousand times yes. My second brain is still nascent, but I completely agree about how I wish I could have talked to my past self about it. It's a very enticing tool to use. I like things to be in text files so I have built mine in vim using the vim-zettel plugin.
The average of 5 projects vs the average of 5 people. Super helpful during corona because I can't hangout with friends so much. And not depend on anyone to improve myself. This is a nuanced perspective, Elizabeth. Makes me feel more independent. Thanks a ton, girlie!
i personally think that the 5 people rule works not only with physical friends, if you are consuming content from youtubers/podcast/books/mentors, that applyes to. And sometimes is better to have more influence from an author than a friend who dont take care of his life. Im not meaning that you dont need friends, but YOU CAN choose the ones to learn from :).
I always come back to your videos when I need to get my life together again. Everytime I'm watching some of your videos, I'm taking a few ideas and it helps me to grow until I'm stuck again and then I coming back for new ideas. Watching your videos have been really a game changer in my life, thank you so much !
I just discovered this today that what I started to do since the pandemic, opened new paths for myself essentially self-development that cultivated my second brain. This video just boosted my motivation to strive through coming adversities as I've expanded my knowledge about the second brain. Manifestly, I'll be heading towards maximising its capacity. This is great. And I've come to the conclusion, that having a second brain helped me get two jobs competent for my future career. Forging a second brain really does help professionally and as a person that consumes information 3-5 times than the average person every day. And I'm just turning 19 this year! Brilliant and Lovely lol!
I just want to say that I really like your content! It's quite relatable and fun to watch, especially about your elaborate 'systems'. One of the handful channels on YT, that I'm watching all the videos of/following properly.
Could you possibly create a video on the system itself, I try to do the same but not to the extent you're doing it and would love to see what works for you :)
Can’t wait to see you go over how your second brain works. When you do, please could you cover when you don’t have electronics on you. At night, I tend to not go on technology, yet I still consume books and tend to have the best ideas at night when I can’t get to sleep and just procrastinate, and then I sometimes forget those ideas lol. Love your channel!
Great video Elizabeth! Creating a second brain can be so powerful. The human brain is magnificent and as human’s we often think that it can do everything and the brain can remember everything. Even though we do not want to admit it, the brain has limitations. Having a second brain to store ideas and notes is so helpful. I have been doing it for the last few years and found it has made me more productive and stopped me from having that annoying feeling that I have forgotten something important or even the name of a new song I have heard. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, a notebook or dairy is a great start for taking notes or having a to do list.
If only I found your channel sooner because I love your content and the messages you're sending out so much! I very much relate to you (I'm a med grad with a passion for learning in general so --> information overload!) and just seeing someone else who thinks very similarly to the way I do feels so relieving and so validating. Honestly, some of the quotes you share are so touching to the point I find myself tearing up! Just amazing work and I wish you all the best in life!
One of the best videos I’ve seen on the subject of information management… brilliant work. I have made copious notes and will be a subscriber from today.
Beautiful reflection at the end of your video, this is why I feel it you are one of mine and think on that level means that you are a woman with a high volume of information that you feel the need to organize such a high volume of information which you want to optimize, and at the same time use through a second brain efficiently without having that cloud load in tow and that is exactly what we want all the people who in one way or another we carry out activities under consumption of information, for this I congratulate you and wish you all the best in your career and your personal life.
Can't wait till you break down the details of how you manage your second brain! Been hearing about it for a long time but haven't brought myself to know more hehe PS I"m curious why you end every video with "don't believe everything you think" 🤔
I ❤ that she ends all her videos with that quote: "Don't believe everything you think" are incredibly wise words from a person who hasn't even become an offical doctor yet!! I applause her for that!! 👏 Lots of times we have impostor syndrome and don't believe that we can do better, I think this is why she reminds us via her quote. I feel like on those days where I really feel like a failure, this quote of Elizabeth's reminds me to not have a negative internal dialogue in my brain about myself. Thank you, Elizabeth!! Lots of love, Bindiya 🤗❤🤗❤🤗
Thank you Liz for this video! I've started building mine a couple of months ago and as much as I increasingly get clearer, I'm still failing and needing to adjust as I change. Can't wait until you get deeper on this! Love from Australia 🌴🐨
Loved the video as always, Elizabeth! All of your insights are always so interesting - even when you're talking about information that other people have spoken about, you always approach them from a fresh and new perspective! I hope that one day, my own videos can do the same thing
I'm kinda new to your channel and a lot of your ideas that I've seen until now really have been in my head over my 3 years of studying medicine... they really strike home...
Brilliant! You are the one who changes my life, Elizabeth. You are my type of person. For most parts of my life, I constantly questioned myself why I cannot be consistent and commited to doing things like most self-help books says. Besides, people said you cannot rely on your motivation , all those stuff. But you saved me Elizabeth. I followed most of your ideas and it works for me. Thanks a million! Btw, I am wondering about your journey in becoming an artist. If possible, could you share, how you study and how you get where you are now?
Great video again! :-) Looking forward to more in depth videos about the Zettelkasten method you are using :-) Would love to see how you set this up in Notion!
Really really helpful video. I have kind of organized everything on my Chrome bookmarks but your Notion way seems more realistic and accessible. Would love an actual video on how we can make our own Second Brain. Please try to make a video on it soon.
I use Notion for ALOT of my information consumption, same as you it sounds like; university, books, podcasts... But my system is very much just a page for books notes, a section for uni, a bit for something else... There’s no connection between the notes I write down. Basically - it would be SUPER cool if you did a video on how exactly the Second Brain system works on your Notion, I reckon I could really benefit from it!!
I discovere your chanel a month ago but I definitely want to watch all of your videos. I'm really thankful because I finally found someone with a brain similar to mine !
Thank you so much for this video! I'm currently actively improving my own organization and the concept of a second brain is very intriguing and inspirational. I create a custom server with different chatrooms to store ToDo lists and write on different topics as I go. That works, but sometimes it is inefficient. Therefore, I'm curious to learn a few new tricks°
Thanks for sharing this. 😊 I have been wanting to do this for so long. I used to collect information by bookmarking them, but having switched browsers, it's a pain to migrate all my bookmarks to the new browser. 😂 Now I'm trying to migrate them to Notion so everything is all centralized and not browser-dependent. Another bottleneck I'm going through is I'm not sure if I should segment my databases or just maintain a single database and categorize with tags. With your video, I'm now gravitating toward the latter. It's much easier to manage a single database vs multiple databases. Thanks again for your amazing content. 💛
Another thought -- this obsession with "storing stuff outside of the brain| is at very least controversal. It's very hard to find any connection between "new" things, i.e. between neuron pathes that were'nt established well enough. So in order to really see the connection at least one piece should be in your long term memory. Thus, if you store 90% of the information in your second brain you lose A LOT of connections. Even if your brain can store 20% of your system, it's more effective to have 20% of "active" material than to have 5 times more, but being not able to work with it. We're overflowed with data, so proccess it, create connections and let it go. While some things like paying bills or meetings and stuff are really important to store somewhere (because you will need them once), storing passion things is more convienient within your brain. So what I'm saying that you shouldn't just relay on your second brain system a lot, because you need to remember at least keywords (to look the thing up in your system).
Thanks for sharing this. This is een new concept for me and it looks promising. I have read after your posting this video some articles on this and i try to implement this in my evernote app.
Thank you, so well explained. 👌 I started building my second brain a year ago, after I found Zettelkasten (a software created by Daniel Luedecke after Niklas Luhmann) and have the same thoughts about why having a second brain is crucial and one of the best and most important things one can do (as an educated and widely interested person). Hey Elizabeth! Good Stuff! But can you please also make a video on "How TO" actually build a second brain? And How to get started? I mean, Tiago's course is $2500 and most of us can't really afford it.
Why notion and not obsidian for example? You don't have access to your notes in notion (there are not stored locally) so you become extremely dependent on the system. I can see it working to run daily things (to-do list and most of the organisations task), but storing all your thoughts(important stuff) without a local backup within a proprietary format is very dangerous.
I haven't tried Obsidian before, I went straight for Notion because it was the first thing I came across and I fell in love with it. I must admit, I haven't considered the risk 😅

Amazing video 😍😍- would be great to have a template and follow along tutorial so we can start implementing this too into our lives🙃
I would recommend Linking your Thinking for anyone who wants to know more on the second brain.
Second comment....was waiting for your video❤️❤️❤️❤️
please make a video guiding how to build second brain using Notion. It should be extremely useful.
Please please please post a template. Notion can be scary when you get into the really useful stuff.
