Hes been building a new version of this same machine. Hes been building it for years and he vlogs most of it. The new machine will have interchangeable song plates on reloadable cylinders so he can take the machine on a world tour
This machine was actually designed and modeled after the Animusic stuff from like the ancient early days of youtube. Pipe Dream specifically had a bunch of marbles playing instruments, nearly very similar to the Marble Machine.
Although pretty familiar with Wintergatan's projects I came here in 2022 just after watching an Animusic documentary and I was actually wondering if the Marble Machine was inspired by Animusic. Thanks!
@@malibustacy3606 You'd have to ask Martin, but based on his videos, it seems like he started reading too many self help books and let self-doubt and perfectionism take over.
I like the fact that this video is immortal, it’s been recommended here and there non stop, I remember the day it was recommended to me it was life changing, from this time I follow the process of the new machine and the Chanel in general mind blowing!
Just based on the testing videos of the Wintergatan Mk2, I can say that it’s another beast entirely. The testing videos even come with commentary about how it functions and how he crafts every part of it by hand. So worth the watch.
The machine, the mechanical parts, the cog wheels, the steel marbles before hitting the plate for the precise note a while getting drained out and collected to top distribution make an insane amount of noise above the music. For the noise cancellation he has mics exactly added location and played or recorded separately.
check out the MMX series. He's been building an improved version of the Marble Machine for the last few years and the amount of work it takes is amazing.
If you liked this, there is also him playing the "Dr. Wily's Castle" theme from Mega Man 2 (as you seem to be a Nintendo fanboy) on a Modulin (and a typewriter for percussion). The Modulin itself looks like an instrument built by Dr. Frankenstein. ruclips.net/video/QaW5K85UDR0/видео.html
some Wintergatan vids you should check out (at least in private, if not in a vid): - Domtoren Clock Tower Plays the Marble Machine Song > I doubt you knew this was possible, right :) ? - 100 Year Old Self-Playing Violin - "The Eighth Wonder Of the World" > Amazing stuff, one of the instruments in a museum specifically for music machines - Music Box & Modulin - 2 new music instruments ("All Was Well" by Wintergatan) > Because you like his instruments - La valse d'Amelie - Vibraphone Test Melody - Marble Machine X 105 > pretty old vid (2019) and not quite the current version of the MMX, but still a good view at how it will be
Another formerly viral band who does AMAZING things with creative practical (physical) effects is *OK GO.* If you like this, you'll LOVE "This Too Shall Pass (Rube Goldberg version)". "I Won't Let You Down" is a massive dance number filmed in Japan. "The One Moment" dives into slo-mo. "Needing/Getting" has the music driven by a rally car. If you think Wintergatan is genius, OK GO is Galaxy Brain!
Only two videos on youtube managed to make me bawl up so far, Chris Hadfield singing A Space Oddity from Space and this one. People are wonderful (sometimes).
I remember when this video first appeared on my RUclips recommendations back when it was new. I've fallowed his vlogs for years watching him make his new and improved version of it. I think it's called Marble Machine X.
Right. Though I'm not swedish and had to look it up again and it's actually pronounced "Vintergatan". "Vinter" means "Winter" and "gatan" means "street". So the literal translation would be "winter street" but it's easy to see that they mean the milkyway :)
Sadly not. I think he scrapped his build. He won't tinker on RUclips anymore. How I understand it, he wants to restart again on a more professional basis. Like just designing and let someone professional construct it or something like that
This is only the start of a rabbit hole (mostly) worth going down. After the success of this video, the creator, Martin, decided to build a second generation machine. He documented the process, gained 2 million followers then had some sort of mental break down and abandoned the project with one foot already over the finish line. The first 2/3 of the design and build process is well worth watching. The last bit, quite honestly, is a bit depressing. Enjoyed your reaction. Glad you finally found this.
There's a new more upbeat ending to the MMX saga. Martin said the MMX would never play music and 14 months ago he dropped off the original Marble Machine and the MMX machine at Siegfried's Mechanical Museum in Rudesheim Am Rhein, Germany where volunteer engineers have been working on the MMX (without Martin's involvement). Last weekend they declared the MMX functional and had it playing the Marble Machine Song. The device is no longer portable and will never make a world tour but it is playing music. In the next year engineers will work on the original machine to keep it from deteriorating - but it will never play music again.
Martin Molin (founder of Wintergatan) and Anders Molin (Anders Flanderz the one man band) once had a band called Detektivbyrån. Check their song ”Om du möter varg” out.
U should check out the mark II witch I don't know if it's finished yet but last time I looked he was in the super fine tuning phase of its construction
Nice. Been following Wintergatan for a little bit but only for the engineering... P.s. how many Marc Rebillet requests have you been getting? Wake up is a masterpiece

Sad to say he was making another machine but It kept on breaking so he stopped building it he spent 3 years building it then he stopped because of its many failures
Not to sound like I'm trash talking or anything like that, but what everyone completely failed to realize is that the first marble machine (to which the guy in this video reacted) never performed its intended function even remotely reliably enough for it to be taken seriously. In reality, what we all saw in that video was a combination of all the best takes, where the machine could reasonably do its job. It took a whole lot of failed attempts; it's no wonder why that video took like 2 or 3 months to film!
It's a beautiful song of the beautiful device, but you are absolutely weird! This is a professional musician, this is what professional musicians actually do (and if they don't, it's a serious lack of talent in our society today) Have you ever heard of the violinist Yo-yo ma? A men, in leg braces, who can get up on stage, and when his violin strings break, can recompose the entire piece of music on the fly and keep on playing. This is what true musicians should be able to do.

Sadly, the second machine couldn't _be_ finished - it was full of flaws that required a complete redesign.
