Years and years ago, I saw an animation of an entirely autonomous machine that played music using marbles and other ridiculous things like that to play.
I thought "Oh, that'd never work though. The marbles could never be recollected, the whole thing would just be a mess, I didn't really think it through enough though.
I was obsessed with that video for a while.
Then there was another. A strings instrument played by mechanical hands... Again, just an animation. Then I saw more and more and others and one day, I found the original Marble Machine. A singular device that could even conceivably be mass produced, if one was crazy enough to try, which could produce music with the help of a single man rotating a gear wheel and flipping switches.
All it would take to automate this completely, create that insane idea of years and years before, was a motor and some cool switches.
You made what seemed completely insane into something real. Something beautiful. Did it sometimes spill marbles? Sure.
But who said it needed to be perfect?
    It was there.
    It was real.
    And that's the entire point.
    Creativity knows no limits.
What seems impossible just hasn't been figured out yet.

    • @Wintergatan

So true! One of my greatest inspiration is yann tiersen, the chords in the marble machine song is inspired by his kind of harmony. Then one day i heard a song from Eric Satie and realised how much inspiration Yann Tiersen has drawn from Satie! We do not make up anything really new actually, but we can add to the existing and eventually something new will evolve!!!

Yeah facebook have their own rules and worldview. I learned fast to not waste energy on trying to hunt these videos down though, but i do love that youtube has another attitude generally around thses things. Thats why i do not post fullength videos to facebook, only here on youtube. When we released the original video we approved every request to use the video so some of the typical facebook freebooting sites actually had our permission so not all were stolen. But lately i have found alot of videos where they have used my video, reedited everything, put new music on top and their own logo on. That kind of messed up videos is more tiresome than the ones where they just take the video and post it as it was meant to be anyway.

The freaking Minecraft cover is nearly as amazing s the real thing! Seriously, stuff like that takes a fairly high intelligence, a knowledge of AT LEAST basic programming, and A LOT of time and frustration. I know people rag on Minecraft, but that game has some SERIOUSLY smart people playing it! :-)

While programming and logic circuits CAN be part of a Minecraft build, when it comes to composing music, that's not entirely part of the skillset.
It's more about laying out the noteblocks in an organized fashion, and making it sound good within the limited range of notes available, which, don't get me wrong, is an achievement just as much as building something involving logic circuitry. But the skill "programming" was not involved. But yes, time, effort, and lots and lots of frustration setting all those damn noteblocks and repeaters to the correct values.

True dat, using redstone is one of the most fun in games I had when I was younger. I wish I could have made music with redstone. You can do some awsome stuff with programming. I learned programming aan arduino and plc's at my school and I loved.
