I got the 30L v1 at launch. I have used it a LOT and it still looks (almost) brand new. Crazy durable, comfortable and practical. As I already have one, I could not see enough changes in the v2 to upgrade, but let me give my warmest recommendations for this bag. If possible, do test it in person, to check if the 20 or 30 is right for your body size. Comfort is as important as capacity.
I know nothing about tech backpacks but this dude did an amazing job in its breakdown. Video was really easy to watch and really educational for people who know nothing about these things
I wish they made a 15L version of this. I would get it in a hearbeat. 20L is still 2 big. I like ultra minimalist setups, big enough for a Sony a7iii with a 24-70 lens attached, and a 13' laptop that is low profile, doesnt look like im wearing a brick, and doesnt scream HEY LOOK AT ME I HAVE A LOOT PINIATA!! to thieves.
Great review of the bag. Unfortunately this bag seems much cheaper than the last version: -Accent stitching is missing in areas. -The leather on the side handles is gone. -No more waist belt included (wtf). -I hate that the side flaps have much less pockets. As a photographer all those little battery pockets were extremely useful and I use them all the time. -Also not a fan that the side flaps don't have a zipper cover over the whole area. When I'm working on the go I don't want to worry about losing a small battery or card because I'm changing a lens. I feel like they didn't fix a single thing that would have improved the usefulness of the bag, just cut corners for profit and did minor aesthetic improvements. Still great review, I hope more of the community speaks up about this. Peak Design has been an amazing company for working professionals, but lately I feel like they're going the direction of making fashion accessories instead of useful chic gear.
I have the large V1 bag because it takes large zoom lenses and a 150mm filter pack in a neat size and I always put my camera in the top compartment for easy access. I am disappointed however to see the new version hasn't addressed any of the problems I found: first and foremost, no quick and easy way to attach a tripod, I tried the elaborate lashing on the back which PD show on their video but it's just way too fiddly and doesn't suit a full size tripod. I think PD have sacrificed useability here for appearance's sake which is supposed to be against their design approach, same can be said of the messenger bag. Second, the bottom zip is unnecessary and is a weak point which lets in water on damp ground and is the first thing to get marked. Third, when you take equipment out what do you do with the lens cap/body cap or hotshoe cover? You chuck it in the top or space it came from, but it ends up falling through the gaps and you have to fish around after to find it. An inherent problem with this bag design, the dual access means that when you change lenses or need access to the side pockets inevitably what you need is on the opposite side to the one you have open, so you have to zip that up first or risk your gear falling out, roll it over and get into the other side, all very time consuming and inconvenient. And finally the shelves don't give much support, if you take something out the upper ones with a large lens or camera body will sag so the equipment lower down is actually taking some of the weight. On the plus side it is robust and despite what someone else has said I find the straps surprisingly good, a hip support would be good although that would add a lot to the bulk; if I find the loaded bag uncomfortable it's because the stuff inside is too heavy and I replace it with lighter options. The changes in V2 are minor tweaks, mainly cosmetic, and it is a shame PD haven't taken on board user experiences.
Couldn't agree more, this is the consensus from just about every professional I've talked to. We all hate those bottom zippers and not having a dedicated top compartment. But yes the bag is bulletproof. I've dragged it around on over a hundred shoots this year from weddings to climbing photos. It's been loaded down with ropes, gear attached all over the outside, and full inside, and I still find it comfortable. Even the unpadded waist strap was useful. However the changes to this one are cosmetic and they've taken away some of the most useful and rightly done things from the first version such as the full zipper side flaps.
Thank you for this review, I really like how you showed the different sizes of the bags on you, really gives us an actual view and perspective of the differences in sizes on an actual person's back, very much appreciate that.
Based on this video I bought this bag (from your link!), and it's now sitting next to me. I've been looking for a good weatherproof backpack for a while, so this was just what I wanted.
every review I saw did not mention a couple of things which made me return the bag the next day, even though I REALLY REALLY wanted to keep it I bought the 20L so the 30L might be better. In my case if I had an umbrella and a water bottle in the side pockets meant that I could not fit anything inside the inner side pockets because they were pushed into the inner dividers, which don't really hold their shape. I have a Canon 100D which is one of the smallest DSLRs + 18-135mm lens. and the ntire thing takes up an entire divider. And if I want to put something else inside like my Osmo Pocket extra batteries, chargers, powerbank, I have to throw them in the main compartment where they roll around, because as mentioned above the side pockets are useless if you have the outer pockets full I really did not want to return it but unfortunately in my case its actually worse than using a regular backpack that has a bit more compartments/pockets
Peak design bags look better than they function. I know they upgraded the zippers but my previous 30 and 20l bags the zippers broke in 6 months. And the material where your back goes wears out and rips and yes they are not that comfortable. I went with a wandrd prvke that's way more comfortable and secure.
Well done. Very professional video. I'll probably go with the 30L as I'd want to keep a sweater or light jacket completely protected by the bag. The Peak Design stuff is brilliant. Keep up the good work.
Nice video, but the impossibility to open the bag fully to access and organize the gear in addition to the compromised bad weather protection, when the bag is full, those two factors make me think a lot, maybe Lowepro Protactic is more practical for photo gear.
This was the best review of a camera bag I have ever seen! I think I might get it just because of that bottom attachment and the inside. Thank you sir!
I actually just put in an order for this bag, but got mine in all black, i just wasn't a fan of the brown trim on the other colors, looking for a bag to replace my work Nomatic backpack.

yep, exactly the same reason I returned my V1 because anything over five pounds inside and it dug into your shoulders and was just unbearable. Will wait until more people post up reviews online and see what they have to say about the straps.
@@Goalier95 Same here, I returned mine after a week and the bag wasn't even fully loaded. It's a great backpack for everyday use, but it's definitely not a good camera bag. You can not put naked lenses inside since they move too much, specially small prime ones. This needs some kind of pouch or elastic bands for those origami separators in order to secure delicate gear.
Hmm bit of a tough question. I like both bags for different reasons. The PD Everyday has definitely has more organisation than the Apex. @@karlikot The colour does seem slightly lighter than the previous generation of colours - but also they've removed the red accents as well. The new recycled fabrics probably had a part to play! - Ed
@@RushfasterTV yeah ive noticed that as well. I think imma keep both my 30 and 30l everyday backpack v1. I am not a fan of the new designs of v2 everyday backpack. Tho i am interested in the 20l everyday zip and tote pack, i really hope the black colored ones are made of recycled plastics. Sadly it is not.
Is it true as one of the Amazon reviews mentioned that there is metal zippers on the inside surface which potentially can scratch cameras? If this is true, it is a major design flaw then.
This bag (for me) comes so close to being exactly what I want, a day backpack that I can take my laptop, tablet, and camera with me. But I just can't get over the top latching mechanism, just doesn't feel secure, as well as it being "open" when it's on the top latch. The search continues!
I own the V1 and I would say don't worry! Other backpacks are not extensible to the same degree, but I sometimes find myself transporting stuffI didn't plan for, and then I'd rather transport it than not. I am also quite forgetful have from times to times forgotten a proper close and I never had anything fall out of the top latch in the years of daily use. I couldn't imagine how. if you're more worried about thieves: Whenever a new friend opens the latch, he struggles at first because it is uncommon. you have to lift then pull. Overall I wouldn't want a bag without this closure.
Same , it seems so difficult to s3cure the bag. For this price I would have expected something way more secure, for exemple when you travel to countries where security is an issue
I get what you are saying but if they had made the fabric reach to cover the sides on the highest latch it would obstruct the top loading a bit too much for everyday use. It makes less sense that you would put something water damageable at the very top of your bag at max capacity. Its almost always going to be a jacket or form of clothing which can handle a bit of water. Since your precious electronics will be in the laptop compartment or deeper in the bag its a small problem if you ask me.

Tho i am interested in the 20l everyday zip and tote pack, i really hope the black colored ones are made of recycled plastics. Sadly it is not.
great review. Thanks for sharing the detail.
Glad you enjoyed our content! :)

Is there a v3??
It's still the 2nd generation at this time. Thanks for checking. Cheers!
WHAT SONG IS THE BACKGROUND MUSIC
Is it true as one of the Amazon reviews mentioned that there is metal zippers on the inside surface which potentially can scratch cameras? If this is true, it is a major design flaw then.
Yep it’s true.
Could you make a review of the bellroy laptop brief 13"?
How to put the tripod
I own a v2 and have used the backpack everyday. There is no issues with latch. The magnet is strong as ever.
Same , it seems so difficult to s3cure the bag. For this price I would have expected something way more secure, for exemple when you travel to countries where security is an issue
NGL - after I saw you fill it with beer I ordered one. 🤣
It makes no sense to leave the top of the backpack open when hooking the latch to maximize the capacity. That’s a design failure to me.
My only gripe with this bag is that it's just too heavy for me. I'm 5'7" and carrying a bag like this is very tiring for me personally
better video than peakdesign
What is the expected shipping time on the 30L V2?
We'll have the first stock in Australia and should ship early December.
It isn't a camera bag when you can't put beer in it♥️♥️
