Glad that you're diving into Undertow. For this album they have their original bassist, Paul D'Amour. The band's younger, angrier demeanor combined with Paul's bass tone really makes for a much more primal, organic and also much darker sound. I think it's interesting how this album focuses on very dark places, like addiction, cycles of abuse, toxic relationships and other negative human behaviors, and the overall sound and feel of the record matches up well. Then in their later albums you can see a consistent trend towards self-reflection, healing, and personal/spiritual growth and the band's sound evolves with the lyrics.
I saw them tour for Undertow at Lolapaooza 93 on the side stage lol lthey had signed copies at their merch stand. Who knew they would become an awesome force. Nice my prog brother
Tool’s first full album is Undertow. Tool’s first EP was actually titled “72826”, but all of those tracks ended up being re-recorded on either Opiate or Undertow. I agree Opiate will give you a more “inception view” of Tool. And no, I’m not OGT
I have that album too. That's the "hidden track" I was talking about. On your CD player, it goes through track 10-68, all are one second long, silent, and then you get track #69, "Disgustipated". Btw, the sounds at the beginning of this track (Intolerance) are pigs.
@@ryannagel2512 Turns out we were both wrong, broheim, but you were closer! Here's a quote from Sylvia Massey: "...the bubbling at the beginning at the song "Intolerance" sounds like a bong, but is actually a machine that sucks air out of latex when making models for filming. Adam was working on the special effects for Jurassic Park as we were recording Undertow, and we snuck into the workshop and recorded that weird machine." Whaddayaknow, huh? I got a brand new set of killer headphones and thought I finally had it figured out, but nope. 🐷 Oh, well.
I am so exited for you, and this Tool journey you are on! Great decisoin to take the full album! but perhaps you would like to check out Ceterum when you get the chance ;) nothing but to love on this allbum. but yes I agree that some songs shouldd have been longer.. Perhaps they were just following orders from the label so that their songs would be approved.. please correct me if I´m wrong I´d like to know why they restricted them selfs within this length..
you should listen to the ISIS song Garden of Light.... and you GOTTA do Mars Volta The Bedlam in Goliath. and read up on the album and the story behind it.
Tool is great! I’m just catching up with the lateralus listen. Because you love a good bass line I think you should give the last thing Cedric and Omar have done together a shot. It’s one song of an ep ruclips.net/video/HSmMZzi4jJE/видео.html Some of the more groovey/post punk stuff they have done. Even if just in your own time. I thought about your react videos when I heard this today.

I feel like Undertow is chronically overlooked.
Huh, I'm enjoying it so far but their later work seems so substantial and amazing.
UNDERTOW is such a Awesome album!!!😋🤘 Thanks for the EPIC Reaction!!!
thanks- I'd rather be late than never!
@@deanwolfechannel NEVER to late for TOOL !
Nice! This album is raw and powerful

Hey they're actual first album was called Opiate
It wasn't a studio album but still worth a listen.
Oops, for sure I will check it out

Has "part of me" been requested ? It is WONDERFUL in so many ways. Definitely look into it.
I was so shocked they played Part of Me when I seen them in November in Detroit. Amazing show!!
@@chrisnichter9895 they played it in connecticut and memphis ! I got lucky !
@@josephelezovic6642 hell yeah!!
@@chrisnichter9895 they played it in brooklyn and in memphis ! So awesome ! Worth the trips.
@@josephelezovic6642 Tools worth any amount of money or miles to see! There truly one of a kind
It's a bong hit. The intro.
Love your take on all things Tool. Intolerance might be my favorite off of the album Undertow.
Thanks
Thank you! Keep the videos coming please. Thanks again!
I love this album. Maynard is a genius!
This is a great song to listen to in the morning to get pumped for the day!🤘💥😛👹
The opening sound is a big bong rip. Knowing is half the battle :)
I've read from a couple of different sources that it's a scuba tank running out of air. A bong hit just sounds too silly for them...
The version of the Undertow CD I own is a rerelease with sixty-nine tracks, the final one being Disgustipated
69?

And then Marilyn Manson released Antichrist Superstar with 83 one-second tracks, for a total of 99
Dean, Im so glad you are taking it song by song through albums. Opiate is a good album, even if it isnt on RUclips reaction
I'm sure to get to it, loving all the tool. Not a bad song yet

Undertow is the least progressive Tool album. It is more metal-grunge. Still a great album.
Likewise classic progressive bands like early Rush and Yes also had debut albums that were not what you would call progressive either, interesting.
Hey Dean if you really want to have the epic prog experience. Listen to Green Carnation Light of Day Day of Darkness. 60 minute song lol good luck 🤘🏾
One little suggestion... If you will listen to Lateralus, the correct sequence should be 6,7,5,8,4,9,13,1,12,2,11,3,10
