This album is a masterpiece.
One of the GOAT I think! Have not listened to any artist other than Buckethead who can put out such incredible, powerfully emotional content with such consistency.

One of the most impressive things about this track, for me, is, at 15 min. 45 sec. to have Danny Carey performing at that level for that long. Absolutely astounding.
Everyone wants to act like Adam killed this song, but meanwhile, Danny slaughtered it at every step.
@@Mazzini11 I can make sense of what Adam is doing with his solo, but I can NOT make sense of what Danny is doing on them drums in the back. I can't even nail down the time signature!
@@seamusburke639 Three groups of 7/8...so 21 over and over...and Danny is a master of internalizing odd-time pulses so he is able to improvise over it.

Without getting too complicated, it’s Tempest and the 7 can have many meanings, beginning with the time signature of 21 throughout the song. Notice how you can’t bob your head but you hear the precision and impeccable timing? Several parts of the song are in 21. This song is a masterpiece. Let it grow on you.
I saw this live here in Aus. The sheer technicality is astounding. As a song there are less effects and its hard core skill from each of them. It takes a lot of listens to peel it back. Its a summary of their evolution to date in my view. Tool army since 1991.
The first time 7empest was ever played live was at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in February. Amazing. 👍

This is a great album by Tool it ought to be, it took 13 yrs lol my favorite song on it is Invincible my new favorite Tool song
Same with me, love invincible! 7empest and Fear Inoculum my second faves on this album, followed by pnuema and culling voices. Descending a great track as well
Tempest is the title. 7 is a running theme throughout the album, time signatures and all that, also 7empest is the 7th track on the cd.
Danny made an album and had the other 3 as guests. 😁
I've been listening to tool for 35 years or so and it is so much fun to watch a reactor go down this rabbit hole. Hang on man. All of their music will blow your mind especially because you're a drummer.
The guitars are rad I know --Adam's song here, like Pneuma is kinda Danny's -- but for me still the drums!! It's the drums that keep me coming back for more Tool. I also love Maynard's tone in this one. And man can you ever feel that tempest rising!
A really cool Tool song that you can drum is "Jerk Off"
Cold & Ugly ---> Jerk Off might be my favorite two Tool songs back to back. Right up there with Reflection/Triad

You might be able to figure out the drumming on “Sober”. It was one of their first hit songs from Undertow, their debut album after the EP Opiate.
It is an awesome song, definitely check out the live version.

So I know this is a reaction from a couple of years ago but I have to say the most priceless thing is the look on your face as those heavy polyrhythms start up. I feel ya!!!
For me, the first tool songs I've started to grasp is 46&2 and The Grudge. Obviously I've listened to these songs a lot but I feel they are good ones to start with!
The grudge for me
Ive been livin out in the desert of thw southwest. Spent the last 8 months eating mushrooms, camping and fear Innoculm. It has made my spirit on another level. Plus the skinwalkers and aliens. Must try and listen the whole album trippin. Its a journey
Took my biggest dose ever and then started this album right as the come-up began. My roommate said I sat and talked to god for 3 hours after that without a break.. I thought I was still listening to the album the whole time. This is much more than a journey, this is an initiation into a higher understanding, as pretentious as that sounds after the fact, haha. Fear is the biggest obstacle for enlightenment, and this is a guide for overcoming that fear.
Saw them live when this dropped in Pittsburgh, row D..was amazing. Tool since 91 has graced my ear holes...lmao! Loving indivisible from this album

That bass just slaps relentlessly. Sure, you get lost in the guitars and drumming, but then there are moments where you realise the bass has just been pounding away for so long

@@carlosportillo2781 both great for different reasons. The original is more trippy and has a great organic sound, the tool one is of course fantastic and Maynard screams really elevate it. But the original just hits all the right spots

Die hard TOOL fan. This is no where near the top of my list for them as a band, or as a track on the album. The golden sleeper is DESCENDING.
Edit: still dig this song, its just no where close to the top for me. It rocks hard but it doesnt connect with me emotionally like 80% of their songs do

After listening to the latest Album a million times, Descending has come out as the number 1 track on the album for me. 7Tempest is great, but feels more like a dark-metal-rock Pink Floyd Jam than "Tool", per se. Also, I totally relate to what you're talking about with regards to that emotional connectivity; Maynard's small presence in most of the Fear Innoculum Album might be to blame for that. Idk.
I'm really glad you did the Danny Carey cam of Pnuema Before you did this. That Danny Cam makes everything tool does make sense especially the drumming.

Add about 6 minutes and 45 seconds I'm thinkin where are they going with this. And then excellence breaks out. I've been drumming for a long time there's no way I could cover this

You should check you john Kew, he has done drum covers of some of tools toughest songs on drums, schism, Laterals, ticks and leeches..
Most of their music is just jamming, it does take longer than usual for them to complete a song. The drummer, bassist, and guitarist all get together and make the music once complete they send the final product to Maynard for him to write around the music. Besides a couple legal issues that prevented them from writing music this is why it takes so long for them to put out albums. The craftsmanship that they put into their music is unlike any other.
There's NO SECOND PLACE... THERE'S ONLY TOOL....

The 2nd you think you've got it with this band they throw one at you. I think I've learned with tool over the years to expect the unexpected and then try to master that. And it's not just the drummer it's all of them. When they have all 4 members going in a different direction and bringing a back to what sounds incredible the only band I can think of that is like that is King Crimson and liquid tension. Anyway just my thoughts I'm glad you did this song
