      Grammy was for heavy metal performance. It's not just the song....their stage presence won it.....
      with long ass song.
      Danny stated that he had no idea that so many people could sit through a 15 min. song.

    One of the most impressive things about this track, for me, is, at 15 min. 45 sec. to have Danny Carey performing at that level for that long. Absolutely astounding.

    Without getting too complicated, it’s Tempest and the 7 can have many meanings, beginning with the time signature of 21 throughout the song. Notice how you can’t bob your head but you hear the precision and impeccable timing? Several parts of the song are in 21. This song is a masterpiece. Let it grow on you.

    I saw this live here in Aus. The sheer technicality is astounding. As a song there are less effects and its hard core skill from each of them. It takes a lot of listens to peel it back. Its a summary of their evolution to date in my view. Tool army since 1991.

    Tempest is the title. 7 is a running theme throughout the album, time signatures and all that, also 7empest is the 7th track on the cd.

    I've been listening to tool for 35 years or so and it is so much fun to watch a reactor go down this rabbit hole. Hang on man. All of their music will blow your mind especially because you're a drummer.

    The guitars are rad I know --Adam's song here, like Pneuma is kinda Danny's -- but for me still the drums!! It's the drums that keep me coming back for more Tool. I also love Maynard's tone in this one. And man can you ever feel that tempest rising!

    You might be able to figure out the drumming on “Sober”. It was one of their first hit songs from Undertow, their debut album after the EP Opiate.
    It is an awesome song, definitely check out the live version.

    For me, the first tool songs I've started to grasp is 46&2 and The Grudge. Obviously I've listened to these songs a lot but I feel they are good ones to start with!

    Ive been livin out in the desert of thw southwest. Spent the last 8 months eating mushrooms, camping and fear Innoculm. It has made my spirit on another level. Plus the skinwalkers and aliens. Must try and listen the whole album trippin. Its a journey

      Took my biggest dose ever and then started this album right as the come-up began. My roommate said I sat and talked to god for 3 hours after that without a break.. I thought I was still listening to the album the whole time. This is much more than a journey, this is an initiation into a higher understanding, as pretentious as that sounds after the fact, haha. Fear is the biggest obstacle for enlightenment, and this is a guide for overcoming that fear.

    Die hard TOOL fan. This is no where near the top of my list for them as a band, or as a track on the album. The golden sleeper is DESCENDING.
    Edit: still dig this song, its just no where close to the top for me. It rocks hard but it doesnt connect with me emotionally like 80% of their songs do

      After listening to the latest Album a million times, Descending has come out as the number 1 track on the album for me. 7Tempest is great, but feels more like a dark-metal-rock Pink Floyd Jam than "Tool", per se. Also, I totally relate to what you're talking about with regards to that emotional connectivity; Maynard's small presence in most of the Fear Innoculum Album might be to blame for that. Idk.

    You should check you john Kew, he has done drum covers of some of tools toughest songs on drums, schism, Laterals, ticks and leeches..

    Most of their music is just jamming, it does take longer than usual for them to complete a song. The drummer, bassist, and guitarist all get together and make the music once complete they send the final product to Maynard for him to write around the music. Besides a couple legal issues that prevented them from writing music this is why it takes so long for them to put out albums. The craftsmanship that they put into their music is unlike any other.

    The 2nd you think you've got it with this band they throw one at you. I think I've learned with tool over the years to expect the unexpected and then try to master that. And it's not just the drummer it's all of them. When they have all 4 members going in a different direction and bringing a back to what sounds incredible the only band I can think of that is like that is King Crimson and liquid tension. Anyway just my thoughts I'm glad you did this song
