Told you this was fire!! Invincible should be next. That was such a great breakdown you have no ideal... Unless you've been watching Adam interviews, he describes his guitar playing as another voice and exactly what he is trying to do. You really get this! You are very musically smart, keep going and get on that bass! As an old guy drummer that can cover a few Tool songs and some Rush, this band will always inspire you to be better. Keep on the Tool and you are #Toolarmy. Here from your first Tool video and will be here for the rest.

    It’s a little drunk and I’m Friday, but ...
I’ve been listening to Tool for decades. You know what I just realized (assuming my understanding is accurate)? Maynard is handed a (an essentially) fully realized song/beat and allowed to “spit bars” over whatever is handed to him. Rah, you said it comes naturally. Can you imagine being the first person that this comes to, and to do with it what Maynard does with it? That’s even more impressive than I had considered before. I fucking love tool.
If you’re asking for an honest answer, I’m never wishing I was listening to a different Tool song, which makes “the one I’m listening to” my favorite. I did just watch a dude react to hearing Anemia for the first time and right now, it’s my favorite.

Invincible is my current favorite. Heard it in concert end of Jan in Memphis. Took my son to his first Tool concert. They are an experience. I love all their songs but some stand out. Right in Two, Third Eye, Anemia, The Pot and Invincible. Keep up the Tool and the Tool Army will support you.

That's why we love tool so much because of what they're able to do with songs that a lot of bands can't do and won't do. The mystery of tool making music to me is better left unsaid and just let it flow and bring it to the masses the people will follow. And they built up such a loyal following. Brilliant musicians breed brilliant fans. Use need to go to a concert in experience them live.

  • @Nihilixx

This got me to sub man you go deep with it, you get the message of music even with no lyrics at all at points. Tool was my first favorite band when I heard The Pot by them over the radio as a young teen. The Pot is my favorite since it was the first song to actually make me appreciate music on a mature level, when you said they make you get lost in thought and emotion you're right on point. When Maynard sings I get this feeling like hes this 100 foot tall deity just telling you wisdom lol. Love the chill reactions man, I've always have been a metal head but honestly without tool I might of not even got into rap or music as a whole.

Adam, Justin and Danny compose music. They spend hours a day together in the studio, week after week, month after month, year after year. They all create and integrate with each other as they each compose their own parts of each track. Working to create a whole, they balance their own sound into the mix. Once they are all satisfied, years have gone by, and then Maynard adds his part. Musical geniuses, every one of them. We are all lucky to be alive in the time of Tool :)))

they've been working on this album since 2013 that's why it takes so long for them to write a song because their music is off the chain brilliant just doesn't happen overnight. And they want it to be absolutely perfect and they have to learn the songs to and that takes time. they're like the rush of the 21st century. Perfectionist

Maynard is a master at his craft. In my imagination, he listens to the music sent to him and sits with it until it speaks to him. His voice then becomes the fourth instrument. The rhythms he creates with his singing becomes so integral he elevates the music to an even higher level. I’m also impressed by the genius he exhibits. He not only elevates with the sound and tempo of his voice, but maybe even more important is his knowing when to be silent and let the listener enjoy the instrumentation.

I know exactly what you mean by, “picking your favorite song within a song.”
Starting from 12:30 till the end of the track is that transcendent chunk of song within 7empest for me.
Love the content keep up the greatness.

I personally think it’s about Trump and his reaction/lack thereof to climate change, and the repercussions that will result. That analysis you read is good, but I think it’s specifically the relation, cause/effect.

Starts with Drums by Danny then, Danny gives the recording to Justin, he puts a base line down, gives it back to danny, danny might make changes and it can go back and forth between Danny and Justin until they are happy with it. Then it goes to Adam. He puts down the guitar sand gives it back to Danny and Justin. They play pass it around making adjustments until it is all are happy. Then and only then, It goes to Maynard. Once the music goes to Maynard though it can’t be touched.

That's not accurate or at least not every song. Justin actually writes a lot of the riffs that Adam plays. In most songs, Justin shows adam a bassline, adam builds off it, then Danny adds drums but like you said, it goes back and forth between danny writing drums licks and Adam/Justin riffs. You are right about Maynard putting the lyrics at the end. Maynard writes his lyrics based on the mood the song puts him in.

I have vivid by living color I saw them live in 1991. For the stain tour At tulane University. Their album times up is the best one. William Calhoun is a beast on the drums. Vernon Reid is one of the best guitarist in the world. Corey Glover's got an amazing voice and Doug wimbish is an awesome bass player and so is their old bass player mug skillings. No doubt living color is amazing & their really good live album. Checkout the live album from the CB GB club from 1989 during The vivid album. They've got a Good greatest hits album called pride got Several unreleased tracks that are awesome.

Danny Carey plays drums in a jazz band to keep his skills sharp and to help him be able to play off of riffs that are being played and he says it helps him grow and play and offer something back to the band and his mentality is that every time he gets together with Adam and Justin he needs to be better than he was last time they played together because he wants to be able to give them his best.

At risk of getting it all wrong, with Tool, I always feel the vocals "say" the message and the instruments "carry" the message.

IF you wanna break it down Adam Jones is the man behind the music of tool the guitarist he is an absolute flocking genius he is the master mind. He and Justin chancellor the bassist really put together the music. MJK writes most of the lyrics in Danny Carey throws down those sick a** beats. When it comes together it will blow your mind

Last song i remember was jimmy. An amazing song if you haven't heard it yet definitely worth a listen. Your right a a musician its hard not to strive to elevate your own talent after hearing something so inspirational.

Adam, Justin & Danny write all the music and perfect it then they send off the final track to Maynard and he sits down and writes the lyrics to it. That's how Tool has always written their songs.

Sup Rah, Denis from Fl. Pnuema has become a quick favorite as soon as Fear Inoculum dropped. Some other faves are Parabol/Parabola, Schism, 46&2, Lateralus, and Aenima. So many to name.

B4 forming Tool with Maynard, the guitarist Adam Jones worked for Special FX company. He helped create, build and operate the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. He left that job to start Tool. Doesn't that shit make you feel inadequate as an artist?lol does me

Hey Rah i’m from Quebec, Canada. Love your reactions man, so genuine and on point every times and I saw lots of them. Personaly I cant say which song I prefer over others. From one to another there is a guitar riff or a line of bass or the drums or Maynards voice that catch me. They are so dope and geniuses And each song is a masterpiece.
Its awesome to see their music and their style so apreciated by so many different people. United by their music.
Tempest is surely in my top list. Sober, pneuma, The Pot, Rosetta stone, schism... too many bro

Another good way to look at tool is each song is a story. They are just walking you through scenes in order to portray a concept. Rather then it just being one vibe all the way through, there is falls and builds, lows and highs. I would guess composing is is alot like directing, crafting a sound scape at each point in order to evoke a feeling they want. So by the end you've gone on a journey and feel the evolution to where they took you on. The end may soften out and not leave you where you thought you'd be but you're ready for it because that's how its supposed to end.
