Oda never gave an early estimate like that. Artur - Library has a pretty good documentation of Oda and his editors' estimates and predictions. In 2002, he said it would take 20 years to draw everything he wanted to. Later, he admitted that in 1997 he didn't know how long it would last, but was thinking 5 years to finish. After timeskip, he admitted that he didn't know how long it would be when he was writing pre-timeskip. Have a good day. 😀

I hate to be that person, but this estimation is assuming that Oda-sensei has no health complications and produces at a consistent rate. Being a mangaka historically is a physically + mentally demanding job, and the fact that Oda-sensei and his team have been producing such quality for so long is a testament to his stamina. I truly hope this man has good health in the years to come!

I think the deaths of Miura and Toriyama have been huge wake-up calls for Shonen Jump and for Oda himself. Oda and the manga industry used to really, really prioritise doing everything possible to get chapters out on time and thought of hour counts like a badge of honor. Like, Oda said he was getting 3 hours of sleep per night. But with the passing of mangaka greats before their time, Jump has majorly relaxed rules on breaks and Oda is now willing to take them. Breaks used to be unheard of in Jump except for Togashi, but now breaks are frequent.
There has been nothing to signal he has health issues. He takes more freqhent breaks because he is older. There is notbing wrong with that. I wish people would stop acting like he had a heart attack every time he takes a week off.
I don't think Roger will have a flashback of his own. There's no real reason to if you think about it. We saw the last and most important part of his journey during Oden's flashback, then we're going to see another important part when we see what happened at God Valley but again I don't think it needs to be part of Roger's flashback. At most we could see a quick montage of a few pages of what his life was before sailing the seas. Or maybe not. The real story we need to see is Joy Boy's and it will probably become the longest flashback in the series

What makes you think we're getting a Roger flashback? What do we actually need to see from him? At this point I don't really care about seeing more from Roger unless we see their thoughts to Laughtale/One Piece in more detail after we find out what's up there. That being said we could get a relatively short Rocks flashback when we're dealing with Blackbeard assuming he didn't name his ship after him for shits and giggles. Another candidate in my mind for a short flashback to show why he went from a marine to a terrorist is Dragon although I guess words would suffice for that one assuming the reasons are relatively simple.

His life has been one of the main mysteries for over two decades, and so far we've only seen fragments of it, there's no way Noland and Oden get full fleshed-out flashbacks but Roger doesn't. It's too much foreshadowing. Why Roger set sails, passing the hat on to Shanks, his relationship with Rocks, his role in the God Valley Incident, his relationship with Rouge, his trip to Loadstar, etc. There are many things Oda set up to be eventually fleshed out as he always does.

Oda is famous for zigging when everyone thought 100% that he would zag. Like going to some random island called Egghead when most people thought Elbaf was a slam dunk after Wano. I agree. This is the last saga and not last arc. The previous saga lasted from Punk hazard to Wano. There is still so much that needs expanding on. So 8 years sounds reasonable. Plus Oda is taking more frequent breaks.

Something I realized while worrying about One Piece ending is that this time right now is what we're gonna miss the most. We're at a point where the juiciest secrets, some decades old, are finally coming to light, making for some of the most enthralling discussions about the characters and their motivations. I don't think there will ever be another storytelling experience like One Piece again, at least in our lifetimes, so lets all enjoy the ride until the day the One Piece is found whether that's five years from now or fifty!
I think it'll go to at least the 30th anniversary, and end at around chapter 1300 or so. This means that at a pace of 40 chapters per year that's at least another 4 years from now. I think Oda is looking at his age and what he wants to do so he won't extend it too much, so after the 30th anniversary on 2027, he'll end it as quickly as possible. So my guess is 2028 or maybe 29.
Some problems with that though. 1) Oda hasn't hit 40 chapters in a year for a long time now (last time in 2016) and is much closer to 30 chapters per year now. 2) Even if you think he somehow manages to end it around chapter 1300, this would still mean 180 more chapters, which means 6 more years with the current chapter output. So even in your scenario 2030 is the earliest it could realistically end.
Kinda feels like the final war has already started since the Gorosei have entered. Battle of Egghead, Elbaf, and Lodestar with the final battle at Laughtale
I think we're also forgetting that Laugh Tale will likely be the Arc where we get the entire Void Century flashback, resulting in it consequently needing time for set up and character introductions, So I wouldn't be surprised if Laugh Tale was in fact longer then quick a good chunk of arcs.
im betting it will end on 2031 instead of 2032. Oda has played around with the number 56 a lot. 2031 is also the year oda turns 56, and also the time one piece might end. but its just a theory

As well there are some things oda just isn’t going to be able to cut out like he could previously, which may only add a few chapters but could still push it over that 1350 mark by quite a bit.

Predicting every arc episodes: Elbaf arc (shanks becoming villain): 80-100+ Lodestar arc (joyboy flashback) and the down fall of buggy (cross guild): 30-50 Raftel arc (void century flashback) and Blackbeard pirates downfall: 50 -70 The great flood arc (straw hat warm up and all luffy alliance show up): 10-20 Mariejois arc (Strat hat alliance vs WG): 250-300+

I could imagine the opposite. That Laugh Tale will need the biggest set up with a flashback of the Ancient Kingdom / JoyBoy. Concidering how long a flashback line Odens already was, the flashback of JoyBoy could easily be 35+ chapters. Therefore Laugh Tale (like Egghead) being way longer then some people expect it to be.
What you are saying makes a lot of sense but I think you are forgetting few things in one piece. I'm talking about the mysteries, backstories etc., We don't know if we only have 2 arcs after elbaf. What about lodestar island? What about the void century, Imu's backstory, Joyboy's backstory, Sun god Nika, Dragon's backstory, Luffy's Mom, Koby, Fujitora, Akainu, Zoro vs Mihawk, Sanji and All Blue, Brook meeting Laboon, Will of D etc., Kuma's backstory was like 7 chapters, so imagine the other backstories. I think there are too many mysteries, fights and backstories left to be finished in 1350 chapters. I think One piece will end close to 1500 chapters due to the sheer amount of mysteries it has.

We still have two major flashbacks to fit in the story as well: Roger/Rocks and the Joy Boy/Imu/Void Century as well. Those could easily equal another 50-100 chapters together.
We have at minimum, Elbaf, Lodestar, a final hunt for Laughtale, and some sort of final war arc. I also find it unlikely we won't visit both Hachinosu and Mary Geoise before the end
I’m saying it now, One Piece’s War arc is going to be around 200 chapters if not more; there are way too many characters of interest and plot revelations/character backstories left to reveal, and I fully expect the fights collectively to last more like a 100 chapters than 50 with all the characters that’ll be involved.
I think you made a mistake Morj. In laugh tale we would develop the story of the island's former inhabitants, through the flashback that would reveal to us what happened 800 years ago, either Joyboy's flashback or someone else.
There’s no reason why these chapters are this long. Wano and Dressrosa were way too convoluted and drawn out (hehe). I believe Oda gets instructed by Shuisha to make it longer so that they can make more merchandise of more characters. But I also believe he might start condensing chapters and making the plot move faster as we already have all the establishment.

I think Oda achieved one of his biggest dreams with the live action, and that just allowed him, mentally, to keep going with one piece with no holding back. I just have this feeling he is in a very happy place right now. He has the freedom of the king of the pirates.
I honestly think it will go longer, the amount of flashbacks, whether rocks related or void century related, might add 20 more chapters. As much build up as this story has had, I believe the pay off likely means a lot of historical information.
Honestly, it makes sense once you remember the “Four Emperors” saga started in 2012 with Punk Hazard that ended up being a decade-long super saga that only ended at the conclusion of Wano. I think this “Final Saga” will be another super saga spanning another decade.
I believe we will have more arcs then the 3 you mentioned , we need a undersea underworld arc , another sky island mini arc incorporated into Elbaf , a hell arc , Potentially a moon arc , A load star arc , SH might stop at Syphx , ofc Elbaf arc , Laughtale and final war , Ancient kingdom arc ( a long flashback arc ) And finally a dream world mini arc during BB VS Luffy and Time travel mini arc ( I think luffy must be time travelling at some point for some things too make sense ) I think the arcs may be longer then what we have been used too roo fit all this content into .
For Laugh Tale I'm guessing we will have the possibly biggest backstory, being Void centuary. Learning about those characters, the world and it's inhabitants. So laugh Tale being "short" seems optimistic to me

Vegapunk just as easily could've been introduced in Elbaf with all the connections to the library of Ohara, Clover and Saul that we now know he had.

I agree. This is the last saga and not last arc. The previous saga lasted from Punk hazard to Wano. There is still so much that needs expanding on. So 8 years sounds reasonable. Plus Oda is taking more frequent breaks.

Something I realized while worrying about One Piece ending is that this time right now is what we're gonna miss the most. We're at a point where the juiciest secrets, some decades old, are finally coming to light, making for some of the most enthralling discussions about the characters and their motivations.
I don't think there will ever be another storytelling experience like One Piece again, at least in our lifetimes, so lets all enjoy the ride until the day the One Piece is found whether that's five years from now or fifty!
I used to think it would end in 2027 30th anniversary but with Egghead being this long, the arcs are definitely gonna be longer than anticipated
Punk Hazard - beginning of Wano: 2012-middle of 2018: 6 years - 4 arcs
7-8 years is plenty of time to wrap up the story.
You have to also consider oda is producing a lot less chapters per year now since wano started
I think it'll go to at least the 30th anniversary, and end at around chapter 1300 or so. This means that at a pace of 40 chapters per year that's at least another 4 years from now. I think Oda is looking at his age and what he wants to do so he won't extend it too much, so after the 30th anniversary on 2027, he'll end it as quickly as possible. So my guess is 2028 or maybe 29.
Some problems with that though.
1) Oda hasn't hit 40 chapters in a year for a long time now (last time in 2016) and is much closer to 30 chapters per year now.
2) Even if you think he somehow manages to end it around chapter 1300, this would still mean 180 more chapters, which means 6 more years with the current chapter output. So even in your scenario 2030 is the earliest it could realistically end.
Kinda feels like the final war has already started since the Gorosei have entered. Battle of Egghead, Elbaf, and Lodestar with the final battle at Laughtale
I think we're also forgetting that Laugh Tale will likely be the Arc where we get the entire Void Century flashback, resulting in it consequently needing time for set up and character introductions, So I wouldn't be surprised if Laugh Tale was in fact longer then quick a good chunk of arcs.
I began One Piece a while ago and I'm 144 episodes in, so it's good to know I will have time to catch up
im betting it will end on 2031 instead of 2032. Oda has played around with the number 56 a lot. 2031 is also the year oda turns 56, and also the time one piece might end. but its just a theory
if we assume the void century flashback will be longer than Oden's flashback, it might be inching closer to 1400 chapters
It makes no sense unless you think Oda would ever spend like 50+ on a flashback which will never happen
@@lukerne9260 closer to 1400 only means pushing it to like 1376 which seems reasonable if it’s like a 15-20 chapter flashback. As well there are some things oda just isn’t going to be able to cut out like he could previously, which may only add a few chapters but could still push it over that 1350 mark by quite a bit.
I think most of laughte arc will be just joyboy flashback, wich makes 50 chapter a good estimate

Concidering how long a flashback line Odens already was, the flashback of JoyBoy could easily be 35+ chapters. Therefore Laugh Tale (like Egghead) being way longer then some people expect it to be.
What you are saying makes a lot of sense but I think you are forgetting few things in one piece. I'm talking about the mysteries, backstories etc., We don't know if we only have 2 arcs after elbaf. What about lodestar island? What about the void century, Imu's backstory, Joyboy's backstory, Sun god Nika, Dragon's backstory, Luffy's Mom, Koby, Fujitora, Akainu, Zoro vs Mihawk, Sanji and All Blue, Brook meeting Laboon, Will of D etc., Kuma's backstory was like 7 chapters, so imagine the other backstories. I think there are too many mysteries, fights and backstories left to be finished in 1350 chapters. I think One piece will end close to 1500 chapters due to the sheer amount of mysteries it has.

I’m saying it now, One Piece’s War arc is going to be around 200 chapters if not more; there are way too many characters of interest and plot revelations/character backstories left to reveal, and I fully expect the fights collectively to last more like a 100 chapters than 50 with all the characters that’ll be involved.

There’s no reason why these chapters are this long. Wano and Dressrosa were way too convoluted and drawn out (hehe).
I believe Oda gets instructed by Shuisha to make it longer so that they can make more merchandise of more characters.

I think Oda achieved one of his biggest dreams with the live action, and that just allowed him, mentally, to keep going with one piece with no holding back. I just have this feeling he is in a very happy place right now. He has the freedom of the king of the pirates.
Elbaf needs to have so many macro stories, that I sincerely doubt it will be less than 150 chapters
I honestly think it will go longer, the amount of flashbacks, whether rocks related or void century related, might add 20 more chapters. As much build up as this story has had, I believe the pay off likely means a lot of historical information.

And finally a dream world mini arc during BB VS Luffy and Time travel mini arc ( I think luffy must be time travelling at some point for some things too make sense )

For Laugh Tale I'm guessing we will have the possibly biggest backstory, being Void centuary. Learning about those characters, the world and it's inhabitants. So laugh Tale being "short" seems optimistic to me
But at most that flash back is gonna be like 2 volumes, and even then I don see Oda doing something that long , for a flash back.
We're gonna get an onslaught of flashbacks too. We'll get an entire arc of flashbacks of the Void Century, Joy Boy, etc.
I am both sad that we need to wait that much for the end of OnePiece and happy that OnePiece will be long with us.
