I have a 2013 that sounds like it’s making a roaring sound when I’m accelerating and seems to quiet down a little bit when off the gas. How similar would you say the 3rd gen ram rear end would be to the 4th gen? Awesome vid btw!
Hey Justin, thanks for the question. It sounds you are experiencing the classic "whine" from a rear end that is wearing out. While we haven't done a 4th gen rear end axle swap I would imagine it is virtually the same as this video. All full size trucks have used the same kind of layout for many years now. @justinjimenez4095 It is difficult to verify in the junkyard just by looking at things. You can always remove the diff cover and see how things look, any worn teeth, burnt oil smell but it's not a guarantee. What we try to do when getting parts from the junkyard is look for wrecked cars. We have had great success with engines, transmissions and differentials using this method. You figure that the truck was running and driving at the time of the accident so the mechanical parts should be solid. There's always the small chance they were driving around with an issue but we have been lucky with our junkyard trips. Good luck on your project, Cheers!
Nice video. I think I have a pinion bearing going out. Was thinking about rebuilding lsd. May go with a used rear axle. Im in the middle of the desert with temps nearing 110°. Slow, easy and imagination. Lol

Honestly I am thankful my rear end in my 2000 ram 1500 is good since it is a factory towing pkg truck dana 44 3.55 gears although I hope they are not hard to find if and when I do need parts.
Thanks for the comments Richard, we found the junkyard one pretty easily. LKQ Pick-A-Part locations here in SoCal list the VIN numbers. That way you can check on the Dodge site to see what rear end it came with from the factory. Thanks for the questions Randy, there is only a small difference between the rear axles for 2WD vs 4WD. The 4WD rear axle will have bump stops whereas the 2WD axle will not have them. So you can fit the 4WD on either but the 2WD axle will not work on the 4WD. The driveshaft is specific to your bed length/frame, so that changes but you won't need to do anything when just swapping rear axles. Good luck on your Ram project. Cheers!
Thanks for the question Hugo. The RTV typically takes 1 hour to set up and become tack free. Since you are putting it back together you will have no problem having that much time pass before adding fluid. If you want it to be fully cured, it does take 24 hours. Hey Phil, I would estimate the complete rear axle assembly with Rotors and Calipers to be around 250-275 lbs. Even when I had that guy at the junk yard help me lift it, we were both maxing out to get it into the cart. You can always remove some parts to make it lighter but we kept it whole just to make it easier to swap out complete. Good luck on your project, Cheers!

What’s the name of the seal that got replaced at the yoke and pinion? I’m having to swap out my rear end due to the driveshaft coming loose and the pinion busted a hole in the case. I want to get the job don’t right while I have it off already.

Have the same problem broken my drive shaft and transfer case replaced both new then the rear end locked up broke the drive shaft again can't find no one to help with this project got another rear end just sitting in the bed of the truck wish you were close lol

@@BradleysGarage The part that holds the yoke broke and is inside the case i cant move it at all i tried to take the bolt off that holds the pin to move axel to remove c clamps but jack flipped truck fell i was under it but didnt get hurt i put it back together and looking for help

I’ve got 3.21 gears in my 2019 ram 1500 and have been thinking about swapping into 3.92 gears. Does anyone know are there any suspension or drive shaft changes between the two?
Thanks for the question about swapping in 3.92 gears. You will need the complete front diff for the swap as you cannot change the ring itself. The rear you can change the ring set if you'd like. Obviously both the front and rear have to be 3.92 gears. It is probably easier to find a wrecked truck with 3.92's and grab the front and rear diffs from it. Hey Saide, thanks for the question. The gasket will be determined by the actual differential in your truck. We have the 9.25" 12 bolt version in the video so we used the FEL-PRO RDS55073 gasket. The OEM part number is 53007762 for the same gasket. Just double check which differential is in your truck to verify the correct gasket part. Cheers!

Hey John, thanks for the comments. We checked the diff in the junkyard and if both wheels spin in the same direction then you have a posi differential. If the wheels spin opposite of each other then you have an open diff. We also confirmed via VIN that the junkyard truck came stock with a 3.55 positraction rear end. Thanks for watching, Cheers!

Should have put silicone gasket inside driveshaft yoke oil will leak there it comes out on splines been there done that
