Remarkable Views of the Winter Freeze Up | Living Below Zero | Destination Adventure

- Winter is a reality we have to live with here in Canada, and some places get it worse than others. Our country is so large, the scope of winter ranges drastically, from cities that barely see freezing, to towns that see temperatures sub -60. My home town sits somewhere right in the middle of that. Throughout the winter we will see a constant fluctuation, ranging from 0° to -40°, but this year we hit -33° before the lakes were even frozen. This is a strange occurrence, but it provides some remarkable views. At this temperature, water does not behave as you would expect it to. The temperature of the lakes and rivers remain slightly above freezing, but the extreme temperatures above create steam, almost as if the water was boiling.
I have not been overly excited to be staying home for the winter, but when you get to see things like this, I can not complain. I had so much fun racing around the Cariboo and Chilcotin, making this video and taking in the beautiful sites. I also had to leave town for a week and deal with some tax realities that come with this line of work. I hate to see the truck project sit for a week when there is still so much to do, but I am happy to be back home and back at the build.
The killer dowl pin is a job I have been kind of dreading, but in the end it was really not too bad. These type of jobs look very intimidating, but if you can tackle it one bolt at a time, it becomes quite manageable. I am very thankful to have so many people supporting this project as well. Chucks Auto in Williams Lake has jumped onboard with some big support, as well as First Truck Centre. I feel truly honoured to have this support from my home town and the big businesses. I knew this truck would be a big undertaking, and I have been preparing for it, but this support means we can make it even better than I imagined.
If you would like to help support this build, and the channel, please take a look at the Patreon page or the Merch line. Any and all support is greatly appreciated.

Dustin, your videos are superb. Your editing is as good as any multi million dollar production company could do. The choice of background music is sublime. I am always happy to find another one of your spectacular videos has been uploaded. Thank you for bringing them to us to enjoy. You deserve to live the life you do because of the happiness you give to all of us fans on youtube. I wish you a long and happy career doing what you love.
I couldn't agree more! I'm literally speechless while I watch Dustin's videos. I get so upset when they end. I learn so much about history, weather, and most of all love for the world's beauty. Watching Dustin's videos make me want to live there no matter the weather.
By far the best content and production quality of any outdoor RUclips channel hands down! Oh and the story telling/ interviews are on point as well!.. I do this professionally in the music industry so I know quality, cheers
100% agree.
I agree! I’ve been watching from the very beginning. Love seeing your progression.
This is incredibly nice, thank you so much.
Dude. The video quality, cinematics, sound and editing are next level! This is easily on par with a National Geographic production. Keep up the good work! As a mechanic myself, I also love the digging in and getting dirty to bring new life into a machine. Win win.
Thank you so much.
This week's episode was fantastic! Loved the mix of adventure and truck maintenance.
Jaw dropping beautiful scenic shots!! We love checking out different places we'd never likely get to travel to. Thank you for taking us along and sharing the beautiful places you know about. This was a great episode with the combination of adventure and truck build. Keep it coming:-)
Dustin, You have our "Yes" vote for the new half & half format of this winter's vids ! Your channel is amazing. Your drone footage and editing are as good or better then multi-million dollar channels. The wife and I only follow 5 channels regularly (4 of which are Canadian !) and yours is our number 1. It always leaves us relaxed and amused when you add your little skits. If your curious, we also follow Alex Archbold's "Curiosity Inc." , Scott Newstead's "Coldwar Motors" , Matt & Jim's "Strong's Garage" , Sirus's "Adventures from Scratch" and I love Marco & Till's " Broken Window Theory" anyway keep you the great work and ... LET'S WHIP IT !!! 👊😎👍
Perfect example of what can be found, in one’s own, backyard.
exactly. ( nice to “see” you again too 🤙)
Nothing like that can be found in my back yard. 😉
@@helixhippie Mine either, however, it’s all relative. One can find something interesting that is not found anywhere else and share it in a video or, pictures. I’d be interested, that’s for sure.
New to your channel, but so far I love it. I appreciate the mix of adventure and shop time, as I personally enjoy both. As a developer, I also appreciate how great your editing and production are; makes it look easy peasy. Keep being real and having fun and I'll certainly keep watching. P.S. As a kid I lived in and loved the PNW, so your adventures in that area are especially exciting/comforting for me.
Welcome to the channel :)
This is the only RUclips channel I actually put my phone down and just watch.
Dustin I just want to say thank you for bringing me home. I grew up in Quesnel and am familiar with all the area you showed. When I was a kid my father and I would go to Likely for fishing in Quesnel lake and the river, It been decades since I was last there. Thank you sir.
You are very welcome.
Only thing I dislike about the truck build episodes, is I’m not there helping and hanging out! Love the videos Dustin!
As someone who loves snow and winter, I really enjoyed this video. Absolutely beautiful country.
Honestly one of my favorite episodes so far, showing some labor mixed with some art, seems like a great vid man!
As a fellow British Columbian, I love your channel. You have taken us to places we have never known. Keep up the great and entertaining videos. Thank you so much
WOW Dustin what a beautiful road trip. It touched my soul. The rebuild seems to be going well for you and as a woman I do understand a bit about engines, etc. but you are bringing it to another level for me. Be safe on those roads with your little buggy. Thank you for sharing a piece of beautiful BC. Always look forward to the next video. Blessings.
Dustin, I totally enjoy all your videos and their content. I love the adventure, informative content, but it is interesting to see all of the maintenance, upkeep, and repair it also takes to keep this fantastic adventure you take us on with you going. God's blessings on you from Proctor Minnesota!
What a beautiful place to grow up. Is like to see that scenery in the summer months sometime. I’m always amazed at how you can just tackle any repair project. Well done!
Been watching a few years now Dustin......miss your early intro- sitting there with your Nieces pondering the World and the Globe and questioning the fact that maybe indeed there might just be some things yet undiscovered???....Haha! Well, man have you and your channel come so far! Many of us can and do travel and explore at our own levels. But for those who don't or can't?? ......you must be so happy and thrilled to know what a joy you bring them- what a joy you bring to ALL of us!! Thank you!!
No matter how you put a video together, your viewers , will watch, be healthy and safe .
Smart to mix your episode with a bit of an adventure… keeps your general audience engaged with what they love about Destination Adventure, but then leads them to new insights of automotive repairs and the life of Dustin Porter. Another great video. 👍👍
Great vid this week, Dustin! The drive was spectacular, the views absolutely beautiful with the snow, and the steam cloud was just out of this world to see. And with any rebuilt/fixer-upper, it takes time, patience and money. As a Mopar family, if you have any questions, concerns, anything you want to know, don't hesitate to reach out. If I can't answer, guaranteed someone in my family can! You caught that dowel pin right on time, I'd say, and you're absolutely right; if she doesn't fall straight to the bottom, she can create some serious havoc.
Enjoyed this episode so much. I am not in any way a mechanic but I loved both the outdoor adventure bit and your explanation and showing of the process of taking the truck apart. "The dowel pin is the easy part," you say after dismantling EVERYTHING in front of it. Keep going with the truck build, I'm loving watching the process and how you explain who helped and how you're learning as you go. I may not retain much but it's still fascinating to watch an old thing be revived.
Your videos are just the best....award winning...beautiful.
Hi, I am a silent viewer but I have love watching all your videos. I love when you show us all the beautiful places especially all the snow and forest. Please continue to show us your home town. It's beautiful. Thank you and may God bless you.
Saturday morning coffee and another episode of Dustin. Epic start to my day.
Love your videos I look forward watching them. My wife and I drove to Fairbanks this summer from Arkansas. Just a little adventure. We had a 2003 truck camper we rebuild for the trip. Best trip ever. 11400 miles and 40 days.
Keep doing what you do live it.
I have not finished watching your video I’m in the middle of it where you’re showing the bridge where your first episode started. I just wanna say thank you for the informative and beautiful videos that you put out ice really and truly enjoy them. I’m 79 years old and I live vicariously through you younger folks. Beautiful country well done video very informative thank you let me go watch the rest of it so don’t interrupt me or I’ll have your twin take care of you hee hee. Thank your ❤
Another great video, we recently discovered the cariboo , we could not believe how beautiful it was up there , please more local videos , it is still unknown to many people, a local treasure
So happy seeing WL from the air, have always wondered what our area looks like from the birds eye view and now I can see the diversity that is hidden from our view...glad your having fun bringing your Dad's truck back to life and can't wait to see it finished and ready for another yr of travel...🥰
Awesome video Dustin!! Thanks for sharing and please keep 'em coming. Can't wait for the next one. Thank again!!
What an absolutely amazing video of home. I was born, raised, and worked on several ranches as well as my own in the Cariboo. Love your work on your truck in the shop. I was a shop rat in my step dad's shop for years when I was younger, and I loved it! Thank you so much for a blast from the past. It brought back a lot of cherished memories 😊
Love your content, Dustin. I look forward to your updates weekly. I like that you've mixed shop work with footage out and about. really great scenery with the drone too! Looking forward to next weeks' progress (or not, depending if you wanna goof off a bit!) Keep it up, man, you do keep your channel interesting and informative. Giddyup!
Dustin I love watching your videos, you have a fantastic eye, and every frame is cinematic, keep up the great work and I will be watching and sharing!

❤ we are so blessed to have someone like you to me being a home all the time.I've watched you for 8 years great work❤
Thanks for the update! YES, a mix of content is awesome. Another great edit. 🍻
For guys who are mechanically inclined this re&re stuff is old news and can get to be like reading text books. So this format was good. Loved it. I have heard many tales of the "deadly dowel pin" but have never done one so seeing how it's done was very interesting.
Epic episode! Adventure, snow driving, awesome drone shots, learning about your hometown AND truck build content! Doesn’t get any better! Until next episode that is!
Thank you so much.
That was a great combination of scenery and mechanics.
Thank you Dustin, enjoyed both parts of this episode but I must say the camera work and footage in the first part was stunning. Thank you so much for that and take care.
Hwy Dustin Your pride for where you live is palpable and infectious! Thanks for taking us on the guided tour.
Awesome drone shots, I’m an old farmer living in the boring flatlands of Iowa.
Hi my long lost brother....again, morning coffee and you sharing part of your life makes my day easier. Your a remarkable individual. Thanks for all that you share....✌
Dustin as usual, you’re the best! Love the adventure/truck repair and build combo. Super awesome video and don’t freeze in that negative 135 degree temp 🤣 you crack me up.
dustin you are amazing your drone footage is next level and this build is going to be sweet you always leave me wanting more so cant wait for next week

As we live an hour south of you my wife and I enjoy your videos and travel around here also. The mix was fantastic and you have come a long way in production keep it up your videos are so enjoyable. Seasons greetings to you and your family
Awesome share & Great sponsorship! 👍🏼👍🏼
Great video, I like the extra content good way to break it up and a little history of the man behind the camera
Having also grown up there, with some strong roots to the area - you've hit the highlights, Dustin, in your usual relaxed, calm and interesting cinematography. Tip of the hat to ya sir! Love what you do!!
Thank you.
You're making my bucket list grow with every video I watch Mr. LOL
The mix of adventure and build was great! Thank you for sharing your hometown with us!
Wowsa this is great! I’m speechless at the moment. It’s early, I’ll rewatch again later with my popcorn.
Keep up the good work. I do like this and all your videos. I think the longer the video the better. Kind of sad when they end.
Good combo of adventure & repair. I hadn't thought the segment was really any different until you mentioned it.
It’s like watching “Sarah n Tuned” but with a beard 🙂👍
Yes love the mix with adventure
Outstanding videography I was spellbound
Thanks for the tour, Dustin! We live at the 108 and have not visited any of the places you took us this morning. Outstanding! I am enjoying your truck repair videos also. Nice job cleaning up the gunk!
You make amazing content. We will be here to watch every video you make. On your rise to the top of RUclips content creators, don't forget the people like Mick that have help in the climb upwards.
As a girl that loves both nature and working with my hands. I truly love both parts of this video. The nature, and then the shop. Oh how I could have a blast in the shop!!
As always I look forward to seeing these videos. Well narrated and the Videos are amazing! Thank you for all of them
Hi Dustin!! your home town is beautiful! I’m excited to watch your truck evolve! Thank you for sharing your art ❤
Dude! I follow over 100 channels, but seeing an update on your channel is allways something else! Keep on keeping on!
You were right great job on the combo video Thanks . Keep up the great work..
In the midst of this messy political world, so refreshing to the mind to see Gods beauty through your eyes. Thank you. Love and appreciate small towns !
It's coming into the hot season where I'm from, spots of torrential rain, then sun and mugginess. Seeing all that snow and ice makes me feel cold, Love it.
The rebuilds looking good, can't wait to see your travels in the camper.
Your hometown may seem ordinary to You, but to a viewer from the Baltic’s it’s quite exotic. Thank You for forcing Yourself to see it with fresh eyes and sharing it with me. BC is a treasure trove of an incomprehensible magnitude. A place that would take a lifetime to explore thoroughly.
Dustin- “look what I made”
Me- scrambling to find my good headphones with excitement.
Thanks, Dustin, for the beautiful video of your local area. What a stunning place to live. I’ve always been curious about the Williams Lake area of BC because my uncle died there many years ago. My uncle, 33 at the time, was on a training course in Seattle that summer and made the side trip to drive and visit his friend up there. On his way out of town, he was involved in a fatal head on collision with two local people who, thankfully, survived the crash. My uncle was in a rented vw beetle- so no chance. My uncle was an adventurer like you. At least he died in a very beautiful place. Thanks again.
My goodness, That motor has a butt load of leaks. Good Luck with it all.I appreciate all your hard work, tanks.
100% worth the wait
You have amazing talent, the videos compilations to the drone shots to mixing up of the content. Enjoy watching every minute. Thank you. ❤😊
As always, excellent work, Dustin. Thanks for taking us along on your journey.
Love it - work and a little mix of pleasure
I liked it! Perfect combination of adventure and the build. Thank you for sharing with us.❤️
Loved the tour of your home area. So beautiful. As always, like your music too. Appreciate you sharing your life with us. Keep on keeping on.😊
Dustin, the first 9:00 mins., the best yet! !! stunning !
Loved this weeks episode Justin, a great mix of scenery and shop
Good for Chucks auto!! I'll definitely try to support them when I'm down there!! Farwell canyon is an amazing place, love it there!! Another good video!!
Great idea mixing half "adventure" with half "build", it was perfect.
Dustin, we hail from the Red Deer area, and I always thought the scenery was pretty nice. However, you've showed some breathtaking scenery that we have got to visit. Hey, making your Vlog a 2-part show that includes the truck teardown/repair brings it home, you know, got to do this to do that. Thank you. I (Ted) never realized that the bridge at Likely was timber framed.
Dustin, another superb and heartfelt production. Thanks for the wonderful tour.
Beautiful area Dustin! Thanks for the trip around the block, so to speak. Looking forward to the next video.
I really enjoyed this video. I liked the road adventure and the repairing of the truck. So satisfying. Keep the great videos coming and stay safe. God bless you.
Explore and build is cool 🤘
Really nice video. Love the mix of adventure and grease monkey!!! Keep it up I’m rootin for ya
The roadtrip was beautiful! I have not travelled up into the Cariboo or Chilcotin but I can see why you love it so much! I am not much of a mechanical fix it person but also enjoyed the start of the rebuild. Thanks!
Excellent balance of the outdoors and fresh air, running the must needed errands, and back to work.
:-) Well done.
love the Cariboo and your vids....pure gold....... Merry Christmas Dustin and Dad
Another amazing video, Dustin,Winter Wonderland trip nicely done plus your Cinema Photography with drone epic👏.
I would be afraid to use the drone in cold Temps. Keep up the good work, and stay safe when traveling.
Oh yeah,I'm definitely enjoy the new truck rebuild episodes, too😁
Absolutely loved this video - thank you, thank you for sharing it. The scenery was breathtaking. Thank you!!
Another great video! You seem to be a Jack of all trades!🤗 I look forward to seeing your videos every week! ✌️🤟
Awesome it was amazing
to cold for me but to see where you grew up it’s badass
Would love to see more of your area during your build video was one of your best
Ahh the joy of mechanics. Brings back memories of helping my dad. I love helping him rebuild his Lil 32 Ford & his 41 Buick. Now I help my husband as we slowly redo our 1999 Mustang 35th Anniversary edition. I saw all the gunk & grime on your truck & thought oh boy wish I was helping. Always love that part of the job cleaning! Yeah call me strange for a women to get greasy! 🤣thanks Dustin. Love BC my home province.
Great combo episode with fantastic footage. I’m into the truck build at the mo but a bit of a diversion on the local landscapes is cool, too. Get Mick to take a camera on his parts runs! 👍🏻
Nice episode Dustin, enjoyed the mix of home town tour and truck work. Greetings from rainy Vancouver 🤙🏼
Agreed with what others have mentioned about your video editing...it is top notch! Watching this week's episode made me homesick for Alberta...now that I live on V.I...I am so not used to this type of wintery wet weather and funnily enough, I have been longing for -30c dry winter weather, and watching your video has accomplished that longing for me! :) The front end rebuild of the truck is super interesting! Learning lots here! Thanks! :)
This is my favourite Chanel. Hands down. Cheers
I really appreciate that, thank you.
Love the switch up. But either way your videos are so easy to watch start to end. They all keep my attention 100%.
This episode was I nice mixup. Made me share with more friends that have a cabin up there.
Brother keep theses coming! We are here for the Spectacular views, of your home land, and the bonus is watching a car vid!!! Cheers from the AZ Hook Fam!!!
