Loving all the behind the scenes and maintenance on the rig! Excited to see whats in store for this spring on the road!! Also stoked to see Mick back! Hopefully we'll see a little more of him on the road this year!
I think it's so great to see your father in these videos. It must be such a joy to work and spend time with him. I bet he's an incredible resource for all the maintenance, repairs and new projects on your rig. It would be fun to see you guys do a trip together! As I'm a handy guy around vehicles and such, I'm really loving all these "off season" maintenance videos.
You’ve likely found this already and perhaps know of a fellow RUclips channel but Cutterup Rob is based in Calgary, does a lot of videos regarding 12 valves and has a great explanation regarding a crankcase evacuation mod that looks pretty straight forward, ties that old style tube that vents your crankcase, into the exhaust which gives the crankcase better venting and reduces oil leaks caused by build up of pressure in the crankcase. Might be an idea to look at the vacuum pump and do a reseal on it as well. He has a great video about the rebuild on this as well and explains it excellently. You’re doing a great job and it’ll be worth it when travelling/exploring season kicks in although I think the country is in for another horrible fire season. All the best, keep up the great videos
I enjoy all of your videos, even the truck repairs. However, this 69 year old lady can't wait to go on another one of your adventures. Your grandfather popped into my head as I watched, and I hope you get to go see him soon. Enjoy him as much as you can now. I miss my grandchildren immensely. Stay warm and drive carefully. God bless you, Dustin from Minnesota!
LOVE seeing Mic in the videos, he's a riot.. The Black Vinyl wrap on the boxes looks amazing. Its a shame that the tappet system didn't work, all in all the truck looks awesome Dustin.. Thank you for the update
These problem videos and trouble shooting talks are all part of our collective adventure. No expedition goes without hick-ups, these types of videos helps we the viewers be more involved and give us a small sense of ownership in your/our adventures. BZ (well done)
This is probably in my top 5 absolute favorite channels. He does so many diverse things. This quality of content is matched by very few. Sets the bar very high. Don’t change!!
At first I thought “Could you not have just added weather stripping where the doors mate?” However, that could create a sauna inside in the summer, so the fans will take care of both situations. Great job!
I’m glad you switched from the Motorhome to the truck. That seems so much safer. I have lived in Northern California and watching you drive hyw 1 in a Motorhome on such narrow roads was hard to do. Glad you are safe. Love your videos. Thank you
Just something to think about Dustin. Take some of your black wrap and apply to the roof beside the crooked solar panel, trim it up to make it all perfectly square looking when doing the drone shots. Or just black paint.
Without the problems, you never find solutions matey - being able to get right in there, diagnose, repair and maintain is a fantastic skill set. I'm seeing a vision of Scotty from the Starship Enterprise now, exclaiming that he's not happy as a certain hum or a vibration sounds off..But your head's been transposed onto his body in the clip! 😉 Definitely agree with the others commenting on the black wrapped panels - they are looking sweet now, and the camping stove, so good too as you'll not have to keep popping inside the truck during the summer months as it will all be right there outside - making that Dungy Crab Sea to Plate process just that bit more efficient (I'm not going to say anything about step 1 - getting them into the crab basket! 😋) Going to have to think of a few new ways to keep Mick busy 🤔🤣
Nice out door kitchen. Love cooking out door when i am camping, but you should have a vent in the cabinet for your propane tank incase it leak and the gas can't pull or blowup. Love watching keep it up
Looking good. I was actually going to say to vent the crankcase through one of valve covers. Love seeing Mick! He has been missed. And I’m 53 so a bit more than middle aged!
Those black decals really stand out and look awesome! Glad you got sorted with the truck I know your pain I’ve been chasing a vibration on mine for over a year with replacement gearboxes and transfer boxes!
The 24 valve used a catch can at the front of the engine that you could empty every oil change, usually wasn't even a couple ounces in it. You should be able to design a catch can system for this that empties back into the crank case instead of having to manually empty it. Looking forward to seeing what you did to fix the issue!
Mick Mick Mick Mick! XD Love seeing Mick! He is such a great comedic element to your channel! Not a middle aged guy for sure, but still enjoy the build series, Canadian Adventures and adventures everywhere else! Mick always brings a laugh though, but your commentary about all these special places you visit is my absolute favorite! I especially love that so many of the places you visit aren't exactly hitting the top 10 of places to see, even though they are very worthy. It just goes to show that not every adventure needs to be to an Instagram famous spot and that there is plenty of beauty right in a lot of peoples "backyard" often times. Sure the places that have become famous are beautiful, but a hardly known trail or random roadside spot in the middle of nowhere can be just as spectacular. Looking forward to whatever your summer plans are this year! Can't wait! :)
Always love to see the back end details of prepping your rig for your adventures. Just a thought with regard to moisture in the boxes, If it remains an issue, I would recommend potentially putting in some weather stripping/rubber around the edge of the box doors and then putting in a small desiccant. There are small ones you can find at Canadian tire for around 20 bucks.
I worked at a Dodge dealership when these 12V 2nd generation trucks were new. Our store was in the heart of the oil patch. So many of our customers had issues with keeping temp in the engine during the winter. Our solution was running a 180-195 Dodge 440 thermostat in the winter months. Works awesome. Only run it during the winter.
Mick us such a great parts runner lol 😂 your in-depth wrenching is awesome and to have a shop that size is every DYI wrenchers dream !!! Love the wrap on the box’s it really stands out Dustin ! Keep the videos rolling , cheers 🇨🇦👍
It’s a vicious cycle. Fix one thing, then something else breaks, then you fix that and before you know it there’s nothing left to fix so you just wait around hoping something else breaks so you can fix it haha. Nice work on the wrap job. Cheers 🍻
I know I am excited for some new adventures… I cannot wait to see the new beautiful videos you got come in my way… I just want to say that seeing Mick was a thick sign needed… You keep that boy put away too tight… You’re gonna have to let that boy out to play more often we do enjoy him. Now that black that you put on that rig… If that isn’t the sharpest looking pop on that rig I love it it looks great… I’m glad you worked out the soil situation can’t wait for you to get on the road Dustin see you soon stay safe✨🌟🙏🌟✨
Dustin, its as entertaining to see you work on your kit as it is when you're out adventuring in it. The outdoor kitchen will get far more use than you think.
Dang Dustin your Rig is looking saweet! Good job on that outdoor TV dinner crab kitchenette and I really like the blackout on the doors ' that looks sharp! That extra light you definitely should put that on back of the rig up high or on the side over your cooking area . Can't fricken wait for this spring out on a whole new adventure! Anywho ,have a fun productive week and don't forget the smelly jelly for the crab pots ! Aloha buddy ⛱️ 🌴
I sure look forward to each new episode. Now that I have finished watching all the ones from before I found this channel I really look forward to the next one any how great videos as for keeping heat in the engine when it cold you could block off part of the radiator with some card board or a piece of plywood or get really fancy and make a frame that you could side in a sheet or aluminum
Another fun vid Dustin. Always good to see Mick (or is it Mech, Haha). My wife watches your vids with me . She was (and to me , still is 😊) a Hottie. She says your the best looking YT guy I follow ! So there you go. Can't wait for the new adventures. We've got 60's here in Michigan so season may start early. Came across a vid on the Frank Alberta Rock Slide. If you ever get over that way you should do a vid on it. Thanks again Dustin ... 👊😎👍
I like Mick! I am however a 50 year man! ;) Awesome video! I am not a mechanic, and to be honest, I HATE stuff like this, but you make it fun and interesting!
Thank you for continuing to share your work. Sometimes aftermarket "upgrades" just don't work out because the development engineering hasn't actually been done to completion. If it were me, I would just go back to the original cover and work on getting a refund for the pretty, but non-functional, upgrade.
Great Job Dustin. I love seeing how this is coming along. Now that outdoor kitchen looks impressive. YAY MICK LOL. Do you plan to do a Blooper real in the future? @DestinationAdventure
We had a similar problem on a totally stock 24 valve. We actually drove it from southern Alberta to Los Angeles with an enclosed trailer and a 34 ford inside to get the upholstery done in it. It drove great for hours until we stopped in southern Montana for a break….i looked under the truck and there was a large puddle of oil on the ground that came from the breather. I went and got two 1 gallon jugs of oil and took off. Every 15-20 minutes I pulled over and some oil came out for probably 100 miles….then nothing ? We drove for 15 more hours stopping for breaks/coffee etc and not a drip or any loss of oil on the dipstick ? We unloaded the vehicle we were hauling plus the enclosed trailer at the shop for two weeks and continued to have a Holliday while we waited. So we ended up drove around a lot. Every once in a while it would dump out oil but then drive for days without a problem ? Two weeks later we loaded up and headed back to Alberta with not a drop of oil loss ! We took it to a shop and they removed the head to take a look at it …they said it had been overheated at one point and scored the cylinders so needed a full rebuild ! It only had 200.000 km on it. We bolted the head back on and traded it into the dealership so I can’t tell you exactly what it was but I am building a 12 valve now for my bus and I’m hoping you figure it out in case my new one does the same thing ! BBQ compartment looks great though if that makes you feel better ??
I really enjoy these maintenance videos, as frustrating as these issues must be for you I appreciate you making a video no matter how long it is. Also great to see Mick make an appearance again. :) I'm sorry you had that complex problem that ate up a week plus of your time but glad you got more help and found that solution.
Nice job with the boxes! Really adds some good contrast and protects the aluminum too. I'm guessing you have your vent problem sorted out but just a note about that. On some of the aircraft engines I've worked on, we have installed oil separators into the engine breather lines to solve the type of problem you are having. One side of the oil separator vents overboard while the other allows the excess oil to drain back into the crankcase. I'm sure I can speak for all your followers in saying we can hardly wait for your next adventure out with the rig!
you done it again Dustin love the black breaks up the metal and off white of the camper. would a second alternator with a aircon 12v clutch mounted to it so it not on all the time be better so you could just have one keeping the house batteries charged and the other keeping the truck battery charged love watching your travels one day mick mite come up with a good idea
We are hungry, sitting at the adventure table, waiting patiently for the first course of the new on the road season. Do what needs to be done so the season is problem free. The wrap job looks great. As well as the outdoor kitchen. Have a fantastic week.
Hi Dustin. Have you thought about using a battery isolator for charging from the truck? BC hydro uses them on there remote service trucks. A simple way to be safe from draining your starter battery. Cheers
A lot of people dont no that if you have a vacuum leak anywhere the vacuum pump exhausts its pressure in the crank case making you think you have a totally different problem. You need to get the dual valve cover breathers there nice but kind of expensive. I got some used valve covers and welded some three quarter inch bungs in them so i can vent at the top of the engine.
Whew! Took a fair bit of time and energy along with more skin, but seems that you were able to win on the oil problem! The doors look great, and the upgrades are coming along nicely. Love the outdoor stove. Keep up the good work Dustin and see you on the next one!!!
I really dig the truck videos awesome build. I love the rig and can’t wait to see what you have planned for spring/summer . I do sometimes find myself missing the Moho .. can’t wait for the next video 🤘🏻
Thanks for the update Dustin. The aluminum is nice but it does tend to tarnish at least with the cover on it now it will be a lot easier to keep them clean. I'm sure you will find many more uses for your outside kitchen. Now if you had an awning over top of it you would be able to use it in any weather wink, wink, wink. It is great to see the updates and truly appreciate the amount of work that goes into the build on that truck. Thanks again.
Love u bro. Doing the black wrap on the box doors was a great idea, they look great, definitely changed the look of the whole rig, getting better all the time, be safe out there,
The Black wrap looks stunning and with it making the wording black behind your plates is just perfect. The rig is stunning. So looking forward to the upcoming adventures and the rig out where she belongs.
Need a winter bra for the front of the truck to keep the engine warmer also attach some 3x3 square aluminum bar to your main box coming around the front of the camper re bottem and top like an exoskeleton and from there attach off road lights . This way you dont have to driĺl in to camper and possibly have leaks from them off road lights .
You can add a second alternator to your engine and have a entirely different charge path for your living space separate from main truck power there are a few kits out there for the Cummins.
The wrap on the boxes to highlight the logo’s looks amazing ! Such a handy cook slide out as well. Hoping the truck purrs like a big kitty after all this love and attention. cheers.🍁🤙
Haven't been to look at your swag line yet ... but I'm figurin' that "Mick" labelled flannel ... possibly some Stanleys??... would probably do pretty well eh?! Greetings from the island, cant wait to see ya get back on the water bud!
@3:50, this is why I just stay OEM. I spent years and years messing with aftermarket for either improvements, or to save money. It was usually neither an improvement and always cost more later. Edit: After watching the whole video, you should really consider just going back to stock. This cover is nothing but trouble and you can't afford trouble in the middle of no where in the cold. Also, thanks for recording. I know it's a PITA to work on the thing, then to record on top of it!
Just checked out your merch. You need a shirt that says, "Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints," with your mountain logo.
-"When in doubt, black it out."
Those boxes look lit!
Loving all the behind the scenes and maintenance on the rig! Excited to see whats in store for this spring on the road!! Also stoked to see Mick back! Hopefully we'll see a little more of him on the road this year!
On the road soon 😊
Yup I've seen mick before, I just didn't know his name . I thought it was me ! Hello me meet the real mean . Lol

a second hi amp alternator on the engine on an isolated circuit charging your aux 400 amp batt will work just fine.
LOVE seeing Mic in the videos, he's a riot.. The Black Vinyl wrap on the boxes looks amazing. Its a shame that the tappet system didn't work, all in all the truck looks awesome Dustin.. Thank you for the update
I’d consider mounting the outdoor stove on sliders. That would give you clearance to reach the storage items behind it while in use. Great build!
These problem videos and trouble shooting talks are all part of our collective adventure. No expedition goes without hick-ups, these types of videos helps we the viewers be more involved and give us a small sense of ownership in your/our adventures. BZ (well done)

I agree it hits well I’m a mechanic and I love the outdoors best channel on RUclips
At first I thought “Could you not have just added weather stripping where the doors mate?” However, that could create a sauna inside in the summer, so the fans will take care of both situations. Great job!
I love vinyl wrap, as I was building my van I wrapped the outside and the internal panels too, it's great stuff.
That black wrap looks SHARP!!!!
Can’t go wrong with the Cummins 💪🏻👍🇺🇸☝️

Glad you're finding ways to fix your rig! Sometimes, custom parts that are manufactured are the only way to go!
Mick 🤣😂🤣😂 is the best lol really enjoying all the build series and all upgrades that outdoor kitchen is going to be so awesome
I’m super stoked to finally have the kitchen done.
Ok it’s definitely all YOUR TRUCK you rebuilt The whole thing !wow impressive ❤️
Looked good to see no blowby when you took the oil cap off ! Definitely no broken ring there !

Looking good. I was actually going to say to vent the crankcase through one of valve covers.
Love seeing Mick! He has been missed. And I’m 53 so a bit more than middle aged!
Nice airflow case! Should’ve water-cooled it though 😉
Love the truck and the bed that was made !! Great overlander
Hey Dustin 👋, thanks for the update. Have a great weekend

Really enjoy seeing the tech aspect of the project. Near to see your solutions. Yes I’m your typical demographic. And always enjoy Mick’s appearances!
Good to see Mick, an interlude of fun

Loved the beginning. Hilarious. 😂😂
Dustin, I purchased a vent kit from Power Driven Diesel, it wasn't cheap but it works great. I have a 1994 12 valve. Solved all my oil issues
Love the black on the panels - looks sharp buddy
Great watching you fix up your truck. Nice to see Mick you should come back to Vancouver Island and see me lol, sorry Dustin❤
Good gravy Miss Daisy! Who knew the truck could get any cooler, she just keeps going up on the cool notch factor.
Mick us such a great parts runner lol 😂 your in-depth wrenching is awesome and to have a shop that size is every DYI wrenchers dream !!! Love the wrap on the box’s it really stands out Dustin ! Keep the videos rolling , cheers 🇨🇦👍
Another great and informative video! It must be cool to do these projects with your dad. Especially because it was his original work truck. 👍🏻👊🏻
You and the channel have really come along way love the truck and content!
Love the black boxes, nice set up on the kitchen. Impressive diesel work .
I like how you keep it real. Keep up the good work.
I’m glad you’re figuring out the oil leak. Nice to see your side kick. The doors look good with the black vinyl wrap.
It’s a vicious cycle. Fix one thing, then something else breaks, then you fix that and before you know it there’s nothing left to fix so you just wait around hoping something else breaks so you can fix it haha. Nice work on the wrap job. Cheers 🍻
I guess this issue reinforces my belief that some stock applications are best. Glad you figured out the solution!
Bryan from Vancouver
I know I am excited for some new adventures… I cannot wait to see the new beautiful videos you got come in my way… I just want to say that seeing Mick was a thick sign needed… You keep that boy put away too tight… You’re gonna have to let that boy out to play more often we do enjoy him.
Now that black that you put on that rig… If that isn’t the sharpest looking pop on that rig I love it it looks great… I’m glad you worked out the soil situation can’t wait for you to get on the road Dustin see you soon stay safe✨🌟🙏🌟✨
Thank you so much :)
Classic Woods camping equipment!
Hopefully it’s tough stuff.
Great job on the truck! 👍👍
It's turning out into a really nice overland rig!!!
Thank you 😊
Dustin, its as entertaining to see you work on your kit as it is when you're out adventuring in it. The outdoor kitchen will get far more use than you think.
looking nice love the black doors.

Great stuff thanks. I hope you get all the grimlins worked out on the truck. Safe travels
Love the updates on the rig! You're all set for the zombie apocalypse! Can't wait to see how the rig performs on upcoming adventures.
Very happy to hear that you have found a solution to the problem

I like Mick! I am however a 50 year man! ;) Awesome video! I am not a mechanic, and to be honest, I HATE stuff like this, but you make it fun and interesting!
I was wondering where he was lol good to see his character coming around.

We had a similar problem on a totally stock 24 valve.

We bolted the head back on and traded it into the dealership so I can’t tell you exactly what it was but I am building a 12 valve now for my bus and I’m hoping you figure it out in case my new one does the same thing !

nice job on the side door wrap

The wrap is so classy looking.
Great choice.

Mick!! How the hell did you know I was a middle aged man?? Thanks Dustin - you never fail to entertain me!!!
I apologize for the words that didn’t come out right I have to use my voice control… Not seeing well today
*Just what I needed….
*oil situation…
The wrap on the boxes to highlight the logo’s looks amazing ! Such a handy cook slide out as well. Hoping the truck purrs like a big kitty after all this love and attention. cheers.🍁🤙
Love the rig!!!!
Haven't been to look at your swag line yet ... but I'm figurin' that "Mick" labelled flannel ... possibly some Stanleys??... would probably do pretty well eh?!
Greetings from the island, cant wait to see ya get back on the water bud!
As always D thank you! The rig is looking great also
@3:50, this is why I just stay OEM.
Thanks for sharing and stay safe.
Wow love the outdoor kitchen. Fans will help to get out on new adventures.
