FYI, "railroading" and "skipping" are not the same thing. "Railroading" refers to what happens if you use a pen with a flex nib, and its feed can't keep up with the nib's appetite for ink. You get two parallel lines from the nib when you flex it, instead of one wide line. "Skipping" is caused by a similar issue - ink starvation of the nib - but a regular (non-flex) nib won't railroad because its tines won't spread when you put pressure on it.

Hi There, you're absolutely right. I noticed I said that in the video and was going to discuss my error in a future vid describing the difference correctly. Thank you for catching the error. Really appreciate it. Have a wonderful day!

I happen to be a Calgarian visiting Vancouver right now and, inspired by another video of yours, dropped by the Vancouver Pen Shop. They were awesome! Thanks for the videos and keep up the great work!

Platinum Carbon Black is a wonderful ink for writing and drawing because it’s waterproof and a saturated dark black. My favorite black ink. I’ve had it in the same pen for two years, a TWSBI Swipe, extra fine, and it’s never clogged my pen and always starts right up.

I mean, I knew this was going to be a super hipster video but you knocked it out of the ballpark straight from the beginning with the gas mas bag from WW1, respect.

Hi. Love your videos. First time commenter. I have a Kaweco Bronze Sport with an extra-fine nib (my holy grail). I use the Waterman Encre Noire Intense. I love this combination and it is my daily writing pen for everything. Works well in a Field Notes also.

What I was taught is never eyedropping metal pen, probably even more so if it is in raw finish like Brass Sport. Though from Goulet Pen's Pencast, I may overheard there are a number of piston filler involving metal body so my knowledge may have to be renewed.
Piston Sport is appealing on its aesthetics but if you are going for its ink capacity, be noted that it is almost the same to a short international. Kaweco seems to aim this product as one "providing piston experience".
This fact pushed me to impulse buy a V16 set instead (quite a deal but I still regard the action being quite ruthless). The pens are still on their way so I can only hope the piston is in good condition as described.

Yes I would agree. Don't eyedrop your kaweco brass sport. It will corrode. I should have been a bit more careful in how this was worded in the video. A few commenters have let me know they eye dropped their metal pens, which was fascinating to hear. Great discussion. Have a great day both of you!

I am using the Kaweco Piston AL since one week. I like it very, very much. The ink flow is very good and the tip runs very smooth on the paper. I use it with the Kaweco brown ink in a Leuchtturm notebook. Hope this makes your decision much easier.

I love your channel (and hello from a fellow Canadian!) You inspired me to pick up a brass Kaweco :) I’m curious - have you always been someone who sketches? What’s your experience sketching with fountain pens? I’m just starting (with little doodles here and there), and it’s very much in its infancy. I’ve found it incredibly therapeutic and a nice reminder that everything doesn’t need to be perfect!

Thank you for the kind feedback! Always nice to meet a fellow Canadian. I would say no to someone who always sketches. I've done it on and off for the last few years but really have made a concerted this year to do more of it. Like you, I find it really grounding. I love sketching with fountain pens as well - my favorite being an extra fine TWSBI Eco. I also like to use the medium on you my Kaweco Brass from time to time.

Spring in Alberta: summer, winter, summer, winter, etc. Lol! That bag with its smart pockets is great. I'm surprised how few companies have an ink lubricant available separately, such as Vanness White Lightning. That would save so many pens from the garbage.

Have you ever used White Lightning? I know people talk about it helping with flow. I've never tried it, but I've thought about it because some of my inks are so dry. I also know Monteverde inks, as an example, are lubricated and so they flow nicely, too.

Your thoughts on FP's on planes...is that your experience as tested? Only I thought the pressure only affects them on take off or landing and once in the air you could carry on as normal. Am just wondering.... 👍🏻I love that bag. That is so tempting to get one 😄From the first film I used to look at his journal and that bag and really did think of wanting it. Brilliant that is 😮I'm not sure of the piston Kaweco and then I watched a video and realised it's an AL Sport design so that does appeal to me but like you, I enjoy my brass Sport so much I don't really want another yet. Thx 👍🏻

Richard, that was my thought, I thought you could write on the plane. I thought I heard another reviewer say that he writes on the plane all the time.

I have used my fountain pens on planes as well. I made sure to keep them pointed up when taking off and landing. I also made sure they weren’t completely full as well just so I had a big buffer of air.

Could it be possible that remaining ink level just at the threshold before bubbling out? The expanded air is unable to push the ink out through the feed (since the pen cap space also in a similar pressurised state?). As such the pen is like a dropped soda, then the calligraphy action opens the seal.

    • @StationeryAt4
      @StationeryAt4  2 месяца назад +3

Hi Richard and everyone. Great discussion! It was my experience with even keeping the pens up right during take off and landing I would try to write with the fountain pens in flight and it would just all come out. It has happened to me a couple of times that I swore off using FPs on flights. Although I'm intrigued by the discussion to try this again... I'll let you know!
