There are so many good options for carry ammo nowadays it’s so hard to say that one is more superior than the other I myself have always tried to go towards the sig sauer v crown, Hornady self defense, or Speer Gold dot
You are 100% correct man, there are so many great options. I live in a hot state where people don’t wear many layers. The ballistic gel tests of this ammo were very impressive to me/ seemed like a good choice 🇺🇸
Gold Dots are good but the majority of tests ive seen with vcrown or any Hornady bullet always fail to expand when shooting through denim. Every bullet may not fail to expand, but they dont expand nearly as much as gold dots or hst.
I know a vet who once said "Your not in the infantry. Why tf does it matter if you have brass or steel? You dont use it it enough to make a difference."
I've noticed with the civil defense ammo, The projectile doesn't get set back when chambered So when chambering the same round over and over again, The wrong will have more longevity. Usually this can cause malfunctions with traditional bullets

I can confirm that on soft tissue these perform closer to a rifle terminally speaking than any other defense round in 9mm I've encountered. What people fail to take into account with the lack of penetration is that unlike ballistics gel the body has empty pockets inside therefore there isn't as much constant barrier there to resist the fragments as much as you would think. With the amount of tissue you strip with one of these vs a standard hollow point these rely less on the shot placement factor due to how much terrain they cover within the body diameter wise. With any traditional hollow point you need to hit spine, head, or the groin bone structure to get true incapacitating effects isntantaniously. These will take tissue and simply shred it to nothing.
I thought the concept and ballistics of this round were pretty impressive until I tried firing it through all of my handguns. Not all of them cycled. Glad I tested it out instead of finding out in the middle of a self defense scenario
I wouldn't use hollow points for self defense for that reason. It hasn't happened to me using a Glock, but it has happened with other pistols. I'm confident in 124 grain Winchester White box
I’ve been carrying these in every 9mm I own for years and the LAST thing these are is a “Gimmick Round” 1. They go through 3A PLATES not just soft Kevlar(literally like first video searching liberty civil defense vs body armor) 2. The 50gr bullet gives more velocity(more velocity/speed = more penetration) so the average 1100-1400fps 9mm round won’t get through 3A armor vs this 2000+fps round. Fucking science. 3. Also that 50gr bullet reduces the magazine weight significantly on every gun 4. 30% recoil reduction… Now a gimmick round is the RIP rounds, they look menacing, but are the most inconsistent round produced. Especially after a customer at my shop came in less than a month after taking 5 rounds of 45acp RIP rounds from lower to upper abdomen at a 3-5ft distance and the kid weighed 120lbs and was 5’4” and the kid says quote”the doctor told me if it was any other kind of bullet I would be dead or paralyzed”….again…walking talking a month later from 5 45acp RIP rounds he had the scars and pictures to prove it. Reason he is alive is because some idiot chose RIP rounds because they look cool and are convinced they’ll always kill because it’s in the name. Yet no other round is as inconsistently pressed and formed, no other round performs as inconsistently as RIP’s, no other round will damage your barrel like RIP’s, and no other round fails the minimum penetration standard like the RIP’s. We refuse to sell them in our shop in Atlanta because they just fucking suck. I run a gun store and started shooting competitively since I was 12 -multi-time state champion by 16yo -3rd in nation at 18yo -junior olympics -full ride scholarships -trainer/instructor for the largest indoor range in the state -manager for the oldest gun store in the county Everyone I’ve introduced to Liberty Civil Defense buys 1-3 boxes after seeing them go through armor plates and leaving devastating wound cavities. Armor Piercing Lighter Faster Less Recoil With videos to prove it Vs. Pointy Sharp Bullets…. Do your research yall. Only time I don’t have a mag full of civil defense is in the winter. Then it’s mixed with critical defense so extra layers of clothing doesn’t clog the hollow point. Other than that best rounds available.
@user-se6yk8zm2x What makes the junk? I 223 is 55 grains and traveling at a little over 2000 feet per second. This is sixty grains traveling at about two thousand feet per second. So what I hear is that 223 rounds are junk.... And we all know that's not true!

The biggest pro about these is that since it's a 50gr bullet in a +P cartridge, they travel at over 2000 feet per second. Typical 9mm is usually around 1100-1200.

I’ve used these against soft targets in my .40 and it blew a massive hole in it. The entry wounds look like the exit of my 180 grain hollow points. It does massive damage!! Don’t expect a lot of penetration though. I personally love carrying this as it weighs less than half of what a normal full mag weighs.
Yes! Massive energy dump, low penetration. Good for hot climates where multiple layers of clothing aren’t common/ if you have concerns of over penetrating through walls.
@@landenx are clothes really that much of a big deal for HP?

I had bought 2 cases of this ammo and ran it in my new Gen 3. Needless to say, it jammed every 2-4 shots
Are you serious 😅
That's why ex sof use fmj for self defense. No jams in the middle of a shooting.
I'm going to call bullshit

Are you limp wristing? I've shot these in my Shield (4" barrel) AND my home defense pistol (M&P fullsize) with not one single jam. I've been through at least 3 boxes already. S&W works, no matter what ammo I put in them!!!!!
I've also run Libery through my G17 and my LCP Max with no issues.....
Hornady is priced well and always works
Civil defense will penetrate 3A body armor. But not 3A+ or level 4 plates. Some strong stuff. This goes 2040 fps. All those who are recommending other rounds are doing so because they don't wanna spend $2 per round lol

Anything in your gun that goes boom is the best defense round.
Those babies fly man love liberty ammo just dont like the price sometimes. Those hollows move though no cap
They cost 38$ here 1box of 20 😢 1st time I shot it surprised me to on how it moves so fast but the kick is so light compared to other rounds
I don't have a cap gun either, fun as a kid, not effective for self defense.
@DeepNuts
Go back to the basics of physics and then tell me how a round that recoils less, delivers more energy to a target.
PSA: NOT JERSEY LEGAL FOR SELF DEFENSE CARRY AMMO!!!! Use hornady critical duty
Screw new jersey. Horrible corrupted anti-gun state with terrible unconstitutional gun laws
The only difference between Critical Defense and Critical Duty is that Duty is more barrier blind, which is what you want in law enforcement. Not so much in civilian carry. Stick with Critical Defense.
No.... leave shithole jersey

Great affordable Home defense rounds great video
Whoever gets hit with those is having a bad day 😂
Buffalo bore or underwood ftw
In the last couple years I added black hills lead free to my list of "acceptable" carry ammo.
Explosive tips or Hollows are the best in my opinion
Federal HST is the best hands down
I’ll have to get my hands on some!
Liberty performs as well as HST, 1/3 the weight, 1/3 less recoil and the petals sheer off, making 4 distinct, and very destructive wound tracts with large temporary and permanent wound tracks. How is a lighter, yet equally/more effective pistol NOT better??
The fact that these hp will punch thru 3a armor and still expand makes them a game changer for all calibers.
G9, critical duty, critical defense, Winchester pdx1, Winchester ranger, federal hst, gold dot.... they are all good just get what runs good in your gun and what you can control
Do they run good in the taurus g3 or g3c models?
Forget everything you think you know. The best carry ammo is whatever your local law enforcement is carrying. Iykyk!
These are way better! These are supersonic rounds! They travel at 2200fps! Twice as fast as most rounds
You think your local pd gets good gear😅😅😅😅 thats funny
Love the stippling on the grip 👍

Great ammo - weird part is that I have to double check that my mag is actually loaded because this stuff is so lightweight
I've noticed with the civil defense ammo, The projectile doesn't get set back when chambered So when chambering the same round over and over again, The wrong will have more longevity. Usually this can cause malfunctions with traditional bullets

I can't carry one cause of dictatorship canada, but I hope to immigrate to the US one day in the next 10 years unless my country turns itself around which I don't see doing (semi auto guns were banned too here recently,) can't even have a semi auto shotgun for home defense or bear defense 😂
When I'm finally able to move there, what state you reccomend I live in and what micro gun reccomendations you got ?
I really like the 4" chiappa rhino, it's not super micro but goshdarn are they nice guns 🤪
I have practiced Quickdraw with dummy guns and I'm pretty good , I'm torn btwn a high capacity 1911 or 2011, a micro gun, or a low cap mini revolver in a high caliber cause i don't forsee having to take on more then one or 2 bad guys at a time, and im pretty sure if I headshot the first guy immediately like speedy Gonzalez the other ppl ain't finna want NO MO smoke
Thank you for the thoughtful & insightful comment.
Great light weight and powerful round. My EDC round in my 43x,Hellcat, shield plus and Sig micro. Eats great in all.
I thought the concept and ballistics of this round were pretty impressive until I tried firing it through all of my handguns. Not all of them cycled. Glad I tested it out instead of finding out in the middle of a self defense scenario
100% glad you tested it for yourself. Very smart move with any gun + ammo combo you plan on running.
I wouldn't use hollow points for self defense for that reason. It hasn't happened to me using a Glock, but it has happened with other pistols. I'm confident in 124 grain Winchester White box
That's the reason many ex sof use fmj for edc. No jams in the middle of a shooting .
FMJ is the way to go in any situation
I’ve been carrying these in every 9mm I own for years and the LAST thing these are is a “Gimmick Round”
1. They go through 3A PLATES not just soft Kevlar(literally like first video searching liberty civil defense vs body armor)
2. The 50gr bullet gives more velocity(more velocity/speed = more penetration) so the average 1100-1400fps 9mm round won’t get through 3A armor vs this 2000+fps round. Fucking science.
3. Also that 50gr bullet reduces the magazine weight significantly on every gun
4. 30% recoil reduction…
Now a gimmick round is the RIP rounds, they look menacing, but are the most inconsistent round produced.

Sounds like you know what you are talking about. Unlike many here.
I agree, except I go Critical duty rather than Defense. Critical duty more barrier blind than Defense.
tl/dr: these are still junk.
@user-se6yk8zm2x What makes the junk? I 223 is 55 grains and traveling at a little over 2000 feet per second. This is sixty grains traveling at about two thousand feet per second. So what I hear is that 223 rounds are junk....

Love those but I also am a huge fan of the Hornady Critical Defense rounds. 😊
Dont get me wrong, red dots are cool and functional but thr whole point of this Glock is that its a compact CCW.
I think it is... because of the speed, but some have fragmented inside my guns, and the targets end up with shrapnel instead of just an entry hole.
A few years ago I tried these and experienced failure to feed in my first carry pistol. Lightning fast and they sound different than regular ammo.
Haven’t tried them in my current carry. Might be a good range test, come to think of it.

For Civil Liberty, getting that full 2,000 fps is key. The 3.5" barrel is definitely better than most compact 3". I like to stick to a 4" barrel.

it really is. people don't know that these are light too so whatever you're carrying wilil be super light
Agreed! The ultra lights 50 grain are pretty nasty too. 2,000 fps 450+ ft lbs
The biggest pro about these is that since it's a 50gr bullet in a +P cartridge, they travel at over 2000 feet per second. Typical 9mm is usually around 1100-1200.
Indeed. Hollow points for your EDC

yesssss i love the civil defense 9mm there not as snappy as u would think being +p but are going 2000fps outta a 4in barrel
I use to run these, if I believe they are still made of copper. From my experience, don’t constantly rack these in and out. They get dingy and cause feed issues. Something with the casing.
