As a first generation Australian I fully support your views Senator. My father arrived in Fremantle from Calabria Italy after a month at sea as a 17 year old. He worked in the bush clearing land for farming from Perth to Albany. He spoke about the hardships. How they slept in tents and were infected by water-borne diseases. This great country was built by immigrants who were willing to work hard for a better life. There were no handouts like there is now. No government support. And yet they made a better life for themselves their families and most importantly the community. Stop the handouts as this breeds a culture of lazy citizens who rely on tax payers. Equality for all Australians is a democratic right. If you are not willing to contribute to society in a paid or voluntary manner do not expect to be supported by tax payers who work their butts off to try and make ends meet. I became aware of the aboriginal claims in year 2000. To say I was appalled is way short of what I felt when I saw a sign at the entrance of Kakadu National Park in 2000 which said welcome to MY country and “my” assumably was placed there by the local aboriginals or for their benefit only. What went through my mind then was I was an Australian, born in Sydney in 1934, to born Australian parents, and at this park when I entered it I became for all intents and purposes a non Australian in Australia. I promised myself then and there that I would never accept this ever and would fight it for the rest of my life. I have never done anything to advance the aboriginals since, not one single thing and this will continue until my death or some changes made to my satisfaction. As a first generation Australian I fully support your views Senator. My father arrived in Fremantle from Calabria Italy after a month at sea as a 17 year old. He worked in the bush clearing land for farming from Perth to Albany. He spoke about the hardships. How they slept in tents and were infected by water-borne diseases. This great country was built by immigrants who were willing to work hard for a better life. There were no handouts like there is now. No government support. And yet they made a better life for themselves their families and most importantly the community. Stop the handouts as this breeds a culture of lazy citizens who rely on tax payers. Equality for all Australians is a democratic right. If you are not willing to contribute to society in a paid or voluntary manner do not expect to be supported by tax payers who work their butts off to try and make ends meet. I have voted labour all my life as did my parents. But never again. Thank you Pauline for everything you do. I have admire your strength and wish our politicians had the same stong ethics as you. I became aware of the aboriginal claims in year 2000. To say I was appalled is way short of what I felt when I saw a sign at the entrance of Kakadu National Park in 2000 which said welcome to MY country and “my” assumably was placed there by the local aboriginals or for their benefit only. What went through my mind then was I was an Australian, born in Sydney in 1934, to born Australian parents, and at this park when I entered it I became for all intents and purposes a non Australian in Australia. I promised myself then and there that I would never accept this ever and would fight it for the rest of my life. I have never done anything to advance the aboriginals since, not one single thing and this will continue until my death or some changes made to my satisfaction. All of Australia for all Australians equally.
