- Ellen DeGeneres has taken quite a hit to her reputation in the last few months. The talk show host presents a kind image to America, but plenty of former and current staffers have said that things are not as they seem. Now, DeGeneres’ former bodyguard has spoken out, and he has a similar story. Tom Majercak was the bodyguard for DeGeneres and her wife Portia De Rossi at the 2014 Oscars, and while Majercak insists that De Rossi was perfectly nice, he says DeGeneres was quite rude. Of course, this is only one story, but it might suggest a pattern of behavior when looked at alongside other stories. Here’s why Ellen DeGeneres’ former bodyguard says she’s nothing like she seems.

When there was the writers strike most of her staff said Ellen was mean spirited and downright cruel.
I was a waitress in 1989 at the Punchline in Walnut Creek, CA. Ellen did stand up at this club several times during my employment at the club. She made fun of my appearance on a couple of occasions as part of her act, which...ok, she is is comedian, maybe we can allow her this :-), however it wasn't pleasant mocking and completely unprovoked. Off stage often the comedians that performed at the club would chat with the staff, but not Ellen, only to ask for a drink, never made eye contact, she clearly thought she was above the "staff" at the club. She wasn't the prime time celeb she is today, back in he 80s and she was not friendly back then either.

When I first saw a picture of her, I thought , “What the hell is it?” Thankfully she is not popular or well known in England.
This makes me sad. I truly used to love Ellen as a comedian. She seems like such a kind person on TV and I really admired her for coming out way back in the 90’s. But now, there are so many instances of her being rude, disrespectful and unkind that this whole scandal saddens me. Never look to celebrities on how to measure success and happiness. Hello all! I think the OP makes a great point. You can't assume everyone is going to fit into the mould of your expectations. It's short-sighted to do so. There are loads of reasons people do not exchange "pleasantries". What if someone was living with Asperger's Syndrome and you didn't know it right away (because WHY would you until you get to know the person)? Would you post a whole video about how awful that person was because they didn't look you directly in the eyes one time? We cannot blindly name call people we don't know! That would make US awful people, wouldn't it? And remember to say hello to people when your ranting about a celebrity who didn't say hello to someone. :D
@@gnatals it's fair enough if there's a genuine reason for it. I work in psychiatry and know there's any number of reasons to avoid eye contact or to avoid speaking- they could be having delusions that a person is a threat to them for example.
I'm only talking about people who avoid pleasantries out of sheer rudeness or thinking they are above someone socially etc - which I believe was most likely the case in Ellen's situation. If there was some psychological reason, then Portia Rossi wouldn't have introduced the security guy to begin with

There are only 2 times I haven't felt 'close, through TV) The first time her and Portia were showing bad gifts that have been sent over the years, such as portraits, etc. The other time was about a gift I sent to Ellen that was a quilted throw with gorillas in it. I remember comments on how the Bushes and Obamas treated White House staff. Like friends / family members. (I do not remember who had what word). Ellen may not always be in a good mood or "on" to show off to the public. Neither are we: but a friendly nod would be enough. Confirming ! that the other person exists, by giving them a hi, an eye contact. After all that man was supposed to throw himself in the way in case someone would shoot at her, or attack her.
And considering that Portia _introduced_ him she also snubbed her partner.
if she wasn't in the mood. A glance (but directly) a hi, ... and the bodyguard would not have found anything remarkable.
By intentionally "overlooking" people you dehumanize them, it is VERY powerful with social beings.

Ellen made more than clear that he was to lowly to be even being noticed in passing.
Deliberately ignoring the man after Portia tried to introduce him is not a small thing. (and it was not her being absent minded). Humans don't do that easily. It shows a willingness of playing games of power (putting others deliberately down) and her sense of being way above him.
Also, a quick smile, "Hi xx glad to meet you , thanks for protecting us today." - would have made his day.
And would have cost her nothing. - also no energy.
He likely would have beamed at her and she would have been _nurtured_ by that exchange (if she is a normal human).
Also that can be done in a "concise" manner, so that overexited normal citizens do not cross her borders, and feel emboldened to make more demands on her time, energy, attention.
Celebs should have that down: short friendly interactions with _closure_ where they lead (and therefore can signal in a polite manner that they are not willing to give more. Which the other side picks up subconsiously, and also behaves politely. No frictions, it can be effortless).
And he was there in a professional capcity he would not have stalked her for a photo or an autograph.
It is known that humans (if they are not narcissists / psychopaths / sociopaths) react positively to friendly human interactions.
The person that initiates an act of kindness, the person that is on the receiving end, and the persons who watches kindness being shown. (There is a reason why cat and puppy videos are so popular, they appeal to that social and kind side of humans, too). They did studies on that (stress hormones, blood pressure, etc).
We are a deeply social species. Superficial acts of kindness and _taking short notice_ of another human do not DRAIN the energy of a celebrity (of course she cannot pay a lot of attention to everybody she meets, certainly not the masses. But that was one person and he was introduced by her wife).
A normal person would have to muster more enery to maintain a level of haughtyness and to deliberatley ignore.

Could possibly be that he hasn't had a very good reputation and she doesn't trust him, or doesn't trust him as he may have worked closely for/with a rivalry/someone she's not friendly with. May be that he is somebody that isn't pro marriage equality/known for his bias's. Many variables, let's not jump to the attack, she's done alot more good from what I've seen and heard!
It’s a bit off putting how much she gets off watching the contestants on her stupid game show freak out because she’s about to launched them in the air. It’s just a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt on that show.
