Fifteen years ago I was able to get 4 tickets to the Ellen Show for April 25, which was Jim and mine's 25th wedding anniversary. With several others, he, our daughter and I waited in an outdoor holding area and was told that someone would come to explain where we should go next. We were approached by a staffer and asked some questions about spending part of our special day at the Ellen Show. Everyone around us could overhear our conversation and responded that Ellen must be going to acknowledge us, maybe even invite us to come on stage with her. At 65 I was still gullible enough to imagine how great it would be to have my favorite comedienne sharing our anniversary, how memorable it would be. After a while we were led to another area, a roofed one this time, to wait for another long hour. Our son in law arrived and the four of us waited with the crowd for yet another hour or so. Finally we were ushered into the auditorium, already crowded with what appeared to be college students that had obviously not waited like the rest of us. I was led to the seat where (I was told) Ellen's mom always sat. Some of those who had heard me earlier talking to the staffer gave me big smiles and thumbs up. To be honest I was quite nervous about the possibility of meeting Ellen. But nothing at all happened. About the only thing I remember now was that Ellen was wearing a white suit, her main guest was Roseanne (whom I also liked a lot back then) and that Ellen had other guests, some plumbers maybe (?), and with time to spare she even sat for an interview with someone at the end of her show. I do recall thinking that was all rather odd. In the years following I continued to watch Ellen, even taped shows so that I could watch them later. Then for some reason I lost interest, maybe because of the over-the-top give-aways she held during the Christmas season. Now that I am 81, I can look back and laugh at how silly I was, and can better understand how young people get caught up in hero worship regarding celebrities. The experience did not ruin our anniversary, far from it. However, now and then I think fleetingly about that day and wonder what it might've felt like to hear Ellen say "Happy 25th Anniversary".

Yep, I learned this long ago when I became close friends with a couple lesser known celebrities I idolized. They were horrible people and screwed me over badly. Lesson learned
I've always thought Ellen was rude and never cared for her. She makes jokes at everyone else's expense, never her own. She also cuts people off while they're talking. These may seem like small things but it shows her true character to me.

And don’t forget that she used to disable comments on her RUclips channel. I always thought she did it so people wouldn’t spread negativity or talk bad about the guests, but in reality it was the opposite, it was to keep people from talking the truth about her. @@CLUB-th7pp Midwestern wives has to have something to watch during the day. Celebrity interviews and giving away gifts to poor people, given they have a good enough story. It's no wonder it got popular. Any host at all could have success with that formula.
Does anyone remember Ellen calling out an audience member who took too many gifts off the gift table? She humiliated the guest by have a stool brought out and putting the member on the “dunce stool”. I stopped watching her after that.
Yes I agree...too bad even this character had to read her lines to be funny. I've been told I'm way funnier and crazy cooler than Ellen. But then again, anybody can be.
Millions of people obsess over celebs. They cant ALL be friends or family. Face it, they're just regular people. As a matter of fact, they're probably MORE likely to let you down in some way because of the nature of the business. Being popular is their profession.
Second mistake, actually going to be an audience member and then be disappointed you're treated as an extra, rather than the star. The audience isn't the target of the show, they're just set dressing.
I attended a taping of the show in 2008, Ellen during the breaks, not only ignored the audience (which is fine, she doesn’t have to in engage with them) she also ignored the guest and only spoke to the producers.
@@PneumaNoose of course she would need to speak to the producers, it was the way it was done. @@vickshake I’m saying of course she’s speaking to her producers because they’re running a TV show. She’s at work so she’s talking to her colleagues. I don’t think you and most people realize how much work goes into creating a TV show. It’s a massive effort amongst hundreds of people.
Well she got her 15min of fame and seemed pretty excited about it. Amazing after the one millionth show They have become robotic about their jobs. Imagine that
I'm not perfect but give me $50 million-per-year to make a talk show and everyone on that set would be my best damn friends. A show isn't made by an individual it's made by a team.
Exactly. Hell, if I was getting $500,000 a year, I'd still be "happy as a clam". That's why I don't put these celebrities on a pedestal. Most of them put on a fake persona when they're in the public eye anyway. If she doesn't want to interact with the fans that made her show popular, then she needs to step down...smh

Actions speak louder than words. You can apologize a million times and it'll mean nothing if there's no action behind it. I've seen none but half butt apologies.
Adriana's Abode John got it right. No one cares about celebrities trying to take each other down. That’s just called Hollywood. This time they’re just doing it under the guise of “diversity and inclusivity” since politics gets more eyeballs than talk shows.
I never liked how she finds it hilarious to publicly humiliate that one male employee whom she forced to stand outside her house while she made a quarantine video. Like....if u need nothing from the man, let him go home?
I think the producer Andy is part of the problem and contribute to the toxic environment, noticed how of all the 5 producers , he and another older woman (who I believed to be part of the problem) were not fired. Something is fishy.
This is alarming since she was accepted and given a chance for a do-over. Instead of graciously living up to what was expected of her, it seems that a sense of entitlement was involved. I think thou dost protest too much. Why would you put that much trust in others, where your very livelihood was involved? She should have made sure that everything was done exceptionally well instead of letting staff make a fool of her.
Jack Graham Why would she do it on camera for millions to see? I mean that’s just asking to get cancelled (referring to her show and her as a person). Mind you they said when the cameras *aren’t rolling,* meaning when it’s real life and we can’t see what’s happening.
Riggggght it’s just bc it’s a trend to hate her now that’s all. It’ll blow over and these simple minded little girls will move on to bullying someone else bc they think it’s cool to bully people
Totally! Is Ellen perfect? No. Have peoples' feelings been hurt? Yes. Is it problematic when you have such a huge show, where so much money is at stake become your namesake - everyday? Yes! She is human...not perfect - human. Everyone needs to calm down a bit here.
The wet clothes should have been expected, as that’s the penalty of the game. But, to leave someone standing and shivering in a hallway sounds like “ignore them and maybe they’ll leave”. They should have that part of the show down to an art: the guest walks off stage into a large towel and dry clothes. How hard is that?
We had no idea we were getting picked for the game or even knew what game was going to be on the show. We were called on stage and found out at that moment what we were going to be doing

I just don't understand. If she was this horrible in front of all these audience members for 17 years, how come we're only learning about this now? I have read stories about Ellen even before there allegations were made but they were few and far in between, and it was only because I was looking for them to make sure I was admiring the right person, but it's still so crazy that she was able to have the whole world believe she was as kind as she wanted to appear to be.
This was never a new thing, this has been on twitter for years.
And don’t forget that she used to disable comments on her RUclips channel. I always thought she did it so people wouldn’t spread negativity or talk bad about the guests, but in reality it was the opposite, it was to keep people from talking the truth about her. I remember watching a lot of her pranks and wanted to comment how humiliating and sadistic it was for her part but the comments section was always disabled. The only rare times when the comments were enabled was when she would do her over the top giveaways or giving money to someone in need.

@Sharky ya never know off camera
Millions of people obsess over celebs. They cant ALL be friends or family. Face it, they're just regular people. As a matter of fact, they're probably MORE likely to let you down in some way because of the nature of the business. Being popular is their profession.
Second mistake, actually going to be an audience member and then be disappointed you're treated as an extra, rather than the star.
The audience isn't the target of the show, they're just set dressing.
Truth
Exactly 💯
Never put another human being on a pedestal, especially a "celebrity."
I attended a taping of the show in 2008, Ellen during the breaks, not only ignored the audience (which is fine, she doesn’t have to in engage with them) she also ignored the guest and only spoke to the producers.
I don’t find that strange. She’s at work...Of course she’s going to be talking to her producers. I think her dry, mean humor is hilarious as well.
