how would you call this style?
10:24, it’s a collection of techno elements, hypnotic/psy/minimal/ dark techno. Like Technogenesis Records, Zenobia Records style. Seeing this become alive with your video is so pleasing, I aim to develop as such with my own gear. Great way to show case the Edge!

The DFAM and Edge are really good as beginner synths with very basic analog sequencers, but that’s all they are. They’re not doing anything special. The cool thing about them is they get you to explore the analog sequencer and learn how to do percussive sounds with envelopes. The Korg SQ-1 is a better analog sequencer, and it can turn any synth into a DFAM if it has an envelope generator and a noise source. A Model D and an SQ-1 is better than a DFAM. A Moog Minitaur and an SQ-1 is better than a DFAM. Or look at the Doepfer Dark Time - that’s an awesome analog sequencer. Or even the Beatstep Pro. Or there are several eurorack analog sequencers.
And you don’t actually need an analog sequencer. You just need to limit the pattern to 8 steps LOL. How you do it on a normal sequencer just depends on what you’re trying to do with the 2nd row. But the fun part is just looking at the synth as a drum machine.
It’s also really fun to run the Edge (or DFAM, or SQ-1, or any sequencer) with a trigger from a drum machine like a 606 or RD-6 or RD-9 or whatever and have the drum machine clock the melodic progression. You can do that with any synth with a trigger. You can do it on the Roland Boutiques with an EXT CLK IN jack. You can even do it on Volcas. I like to clock my Volca Drum with a 606 trigger.
It’s funny to see people use Ableton with an Edge, though. If you’re not even using the sequencer, then the Edge is just a limited 2-oscillator synth. And that’s fine, but you can do a lot more with a Model D.
I totally agree with you! And if you take a look at my other videos, you will see that we really don‘t need it to produce music! 🤖 That‘s why the robot sent it back! We are not Synth Hoarders! 🤖 On the other hand it‘s a nicely made and affordable starter kit for people who want to get an impression of the „dawless“ world. And it works fine with Ableton! This was the intention of the video! 🍀📡
True. Still, it can do one thing that I can't with software plugins: changing pitch within the same trigger/envelope with long decay. Maybe you can do that with plugins (with legato?), but I couldn't find a way. So I bought my first analog synth... ...and I'm happy with it. Not for the sound (I'm a big supporter of softsynths, I can't see so much of a difference in sound with analog synths, with good quality plugins of course) , but for the immediacy of how you work on it. This in particular is 1 knob 1 parameter, very handy. For 200 i decided it was worth trying. For 600 anyway, it would be a huge NO.
