This is the best demo of the Kobol I've seen yet. Someone showing what it can actually do, without just modulating the waveform. It's one of my best buys.
I totally concur with EVERYTHING that you just said- I LOVE my Kobol Expander, even though I already own 10 other mono synths, there’s just something absolutely MAGICAL about how it sounds. 🖤🤍
@@TRILOBYTETV Same here. I love the Odyssey, but the Kobol just has something about it. I like modulating VCO 2's frequency in sync. If you start messing with the frequency while it's playing, it just sounds savage.
THANK YOU for showing us how freakin INCREDIBLE this $200 mono synth can sound, especially when played so lovingly and by someone like yourself, who is an absolute MASTER CRAFTSMAN! -I checked out some of your other soundsets (BRAVO on the DFAM and Edge, especially) and as soon as I can afford it, I will DEFINITELY be purchasing some of your INCREDIBLE/INSPIRED/INSPIRING sound design templates. Indeed! Makes me very excited about the Polykobol Keyboard that Behringer had announced a few years back (and just recently gave an update that it is about to go into production. We are living in truly magical times! (At least, as far as music-making goes)
I LOVE BEHRINGER. Loved it when I didn’t have any money to buy but it was the most affordable for a teenager trying to make music, love it when I am an adult able to buy and bought them all. You can have an either studio of Behringer now, from mixer to delay to synths and drums and make incredible music. Beautiful sounds!
I was looking for a small analog synth to pair with my Subharmonicon. Your intro sold me right away. I didn't even wait a minute in to order one. Thank you :D
Great synth. Love the snappiness of its envelope generator. I have tried passin one of the triangle wave through a folder and it barks! Perfect bass machine also!
I’ve just bought the set, can’t wait to start playing with them. I’ve got the Kobol, a TD-3-MO, a 2600, and an RD-6. I’m really new to electronic music, this is my first set up and I absolutely love it. I just need something for pads now, I’m thinking of maybe a Blofeld. Anyway, thanks man these patches sound amazing 😀
@@AntonAnru can we buy these 'patches' in England? I don't have a clue how to use mine yet but I only got it yesterday and haven't had time to do anything yet.
@@barnskimagroo yeah mate they’re excellent, I’d never have got those sounds out of it on my own. I’m in England as well by the way, didn’t have any issues 👍
God if it only had patch memory. The question how much would it take to not lose sound quality but add patch memory. This synth sounds so good. It will be fun to get really good at spontaneously quick morphing from patch to patch.
PL Contour is epic. How would you describe this synth’s character? Its basic character sounds fairly close to a pro 1, but wayyyy snappier, punchier, sharper, etc…
I have some issues with behringer as a company. I have far more of an issue with companies still claiming that simple analog synths are special in any way outside of the performance aspect. The Kobol, K2 (mk2 for volt/8ve compatibility), and Pro1 are amazing good value if you like playing with knobs and patching. The cat wound be amazing as well if it had a few more patch points.
Just mono. I had thought duo = it could play 2 tones at once when I pre-ordered. Being bummed about that went away once I got the hang of it; sounds amazing. Great demo too!
@@brunobridge7253 You could have told me straight away that you have no clue at all! Would have saved me a quarter of an hour of my lifetime for trying fun workaround! I do not want to mute VCO2! -- For that I could use the big Volume knob above the socket. I need VCO2 but without any yodelling.
@@AntonAnru this is not a quiz, guys, that was naturally the first thing I tried, and it doesn’t work: not normalised, it does not interrupt the connection between LFO and VCO2!
Question: in most of the patches (e.g LD King, PL Nordic, PL Hysteria) I hear some strings in background, are they produced by the same patches or did you overdub 2 different patches? Great work, I love your patches!
I'm listening to this on a decent hifi system and can't believe you could buy this sound quality instrument for so little money. Everything used to be so expensive. No idea if it sounds like an actual RSF Kobol.

Kobol is Behringer’s best recreation. I absolutely love it. It’s so easy to craft sounds.
yes! I worked with pleasure
is there anything unique about it? I have a lot of monosynths already

Yes, but I have doubts we really hear the Behringer...

as a bassline or lead generator it give you exactly what you need, could be also great to do some kind of early Yazoo or Depeche Mode sound.

great vid, thanks a lot! what are the drum kits/samples were used at 6:22 tho?
I use drums from splice
I'm not sure who else used it, but I think I once spotted an original rack version in One two Testing magazine in the studio of Depeche mode.
God if it only had patch memory. The question how much would it take to not lose sound quality but add patch memory. This synth sounds so good. It will be fun to get really good at spontaneously quick morphing from patch to patch.
Patch memory doesn't influence on sound quality. It you need memory you can check other analog synths like Moog
Do I really need this if I already have a B-2600, B-Model D, a B-Pro 800 and a Korg MS-20 mini?
I'd stop with this list. Or if you still want kobol, I'd replace 2600 with it
No, you don't actually. But if you're like me, suffering from GAS, then you do. :)

One thing. In Behringer's release details for the Kobol, it says 'duophonic'. I thought it was just mono?

I have a Behringer Kobol question: Any way to disconnect the LFO from VCO2?
Yes. Insert a patch lead into the VCO2 input.

I hate to say it, but bar the half size, it sounds as good as the original.
is the Kobol going through effects?
Yes. Delay and reverb

I like Arturia keystep, but any keyboard with midi out will work
