    Another fascinating and super nice departure video from one of the most difficult airports. 🛫👌
    What I think is great is that the charts are displayed when communicating with ATC.
    I also think it's great that the TKOF Wind Limitation Chart is displayed just before the start! 🏆
    All I can say is thank you for giving us the opportunity to see your beautiful and exciting work!
    I'm looking forward to the next great video!

      Thanks for watching and your feedback! If I remember right, we had a slot for takeoff. That means, we had to be latest in the air at a certain time. At Madeira airport, the Captain has to be special trained and he or she needs to do the takeoff and the landing. This is also the reason for the change of the controls to the First Officer during the departure.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Год назад

      Thanks for watching and the question. It depends a little bit on the pilot flying. He or she decides when to switch on or off the autopilot. During most of the approaches, the autopilot is switched off for landing somewhere in the descent between 3000 feet and 1000 feet. During departure, the autopilot is usually switched on somewhere between 1000 feet and 10.000 feet above the airport elevation.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Год назад +2

      Thanks for watching, the good feedback and your question. We normally use flaps 1+F for takeoff. Sometimes we use configuration 2 or 3. Usually this is the case on very short runways or if certain obstacles penetrate the initial takeoff path. Flaps 1+F has less drag than the other configurations. As result, it uses less fuel.

    Making 180 on the runway is one of the amazing maneuvers. What happens if you rotate 10-20 knots after your rotation speed in normal conditions? Is there any rule for that?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Год назад +6

      Thanks for watching and your question. The complete takeoff is precalculated by a software from Airbus. This includes the rotation speed. We always rotate at the precalculated speed. There is no reason to do it later. If we would rotate later, the precalculation is not valid any more. The precalculation does not only take the runway length into account. It also takes the obstacles in the vicinity and other factors into account. And, the precalculation of the flight path assumes that an engine would fail at or after V1. Some runways are short and the normal rotation takes part not too far from the runway end. A late rotation may let you overshoot the runway before liftoff. If both engines are running, there are no obstacles and the runway is very long, a late rotation may be no problem. But we would never do it because it would be unsafe.

      @Mike We can start the 2nd engine as soon as the start valve of the first started engine is closed. The avail indication shows up a little later. Takeoff and landing at Madeira Airport is strictly regulated by the Portuguese aviation authorities. The captain has to be experienced in general and on the airplane, needs to take part in a special training program, and needs to fly to the airport regularly. This is done to provide a very safe operation into this very special airport. The videos you see here show approaches and departures during nice weather. This is not always the case. It could get very challenging. Even during low wind conditions, surprises are always possible. You have to be prepared for that. Sure, the runway is now longer than years ago. But the winds are still there.
