  • Cercidiphyllum commonly known as katsura, from its name in Japanese, is the only genus included in the Cercidiplyllaceae family, widespread in eastern Asia. Today I’m at Hidden Gardens in Chicago and the challenge is to highlight the beauty of this material. When we work on deciduous trees is important to keep in mind some technical as some aesthetic aspect that I’ m going to explain to you in this video. Please subscribe the channel and share the video with your bonsai friends, it will help the channel to grow . Thank you !!!

I would like to see you explore a different front for the tree, it looks like the right side is a mirror image of the left side, and the two strong trunks are flat on to the viewer. I don't think the tree needed to be reduced in height, I liked the taller more natural look. I think the wiring reduced the natural look of the tree also, making the tree look more fan shaped than tree shaped. Closing in the natural negative spaces on the tree also contributed to this artificial spread out fan shaped branch arrangement. I am glad all the branches weren't cranked down like a Spruce tree!

I think you might be in the minority with that view, the tree looks far better now and this was the most obvious front from what we could see on the turntable
I’m sure Mauro has a good idea about what he’s doing Nigel

Oh yes, and you put a little fisherman underneath it?

You are right the mirrored twin trunks is not the best point of this tree but my choice was driven mostly from the best base . Hopefully in the future more branches will grow and create more asimmetry
