LYRICS:
I can hear the couple fighting right next door
Their angry words sound clear through these thin walls
Around midnight I hear him shout unfaithful woman
And I knew right there the axe was gonna fall
It's because of me
It's because of me
I heard him shout who is he, she mumbled low
He said baby don't you lie to me no more
And I'm listening through these thin walls silently
As he called out my name I was right next door
It's because of me
It's because of me
She was right next door and I'm such a strong persuader
That she was just another notch on my guitar
She's gonna lose the man that really loves her
In the silence I can hear their breaking hearts
At daybreak I hear him back and say goodbye
I can hear him slam the door and walk away
Right next door I hear that woman start to cry
I should go to her but what would I say
It's because of me
It's because of me
She was right next door and I'm such a strong persuader
That she was just another notch on my guitar
She's gonna lose the man that really loves her
In the silence I can hear their breaking hearts

One of the things I really appreciate about Robert Cray, is the completely unadorned nature of his performances. He just shows up on stage in a pair of slacks and a plain long-sleeved shirt, picks up his guitar, and begins to play and sing. No flashing lights, no costumes, no jumping around like a cricket on a hot skillet. Just great musicianship, great singing, and superb songwriting. So refreshing.
@ Grey Jay... I just want to say I appreciate that you appreciate Robert Cray. Less is more with R.C. Nobody is smoother and fluid like in his guitar mastery. Jam on Brother in these confusing times we are in.
And that pair of Matchless speakers. Awesome performances every time.
Cool song, I am lated deaf, do remember a couple next door thin walls back in the day, keeping me and my girl friends awake with their arguments, sort of a middle of night soap opera,ha!🤔😎
I TRUELY APPRECIATE EVERY WORD ALL OF HIS FANS HAVE TO SAY. YOU LET ME KNOW THAT I AM NOT ALONE. HIS MUSIC HAS BEEN A PART OF MY LIFE. THANKS XANMAN714😁😁😁
Incredible voice!! Great player too! His #1 guitar hero was the "Iceman". The great Albert Collins! That kinda says it all. Wow!
I grew in the Stevie Ray Vaugn error in Austin, Texas and was fortunate enough to get to see some of the best blues any young bass player could hope to see over a lifetime if they were lucky. Always thought Robert Cray was a class act. The blues is the blues, but when you can put your own stamp and signature on your own blues, thats when it's special. Freddy King, Buddy Guy, Stevie, Rober Cray, Albert Collins, were the soundtrack to my story.
Under Credited, underappreciated, under paid. What an absolute legend. As Clapton insinuated - a soulful genius which appreciated music over fame
Absolutely spot on! This man is a living legend, and one of the greatest blues guitarists of all time! its straight from the heart with this guy! as well as the whole band but Robert ( Night Train! ) Cray! and Richard are just at the top of their game! Blew the roof off the place in NJ August 26th!
Top Of The Line ❤😊
Indeed.
I have had the privilege to see him live 2x’s & he is as good as it gets. Love me some Robert Cray!
Robert Cray helped keep the blues alive.
Brilliant vocalist and guitarist extraordinary. ❤❤❤❤
Saw him open for Huey Lewis News and yes, Tina Turner ( Thunder Dome) tour, no joke, in Auburn , AL at University Coliseum there, i was 10?
Incredible from what I can remember.,....would later come to appreciate RC' s music/ and no effects style much more as I got older, listing, playing guitar...
Great blues, musician, singer and entertainer.
On a scale of 1 to 10..A 10+..let's hear it for the boy..Robert Cray !!
he got it,the blues
he's in the mood.
Thank you Mr Cray for decades of pure magic.
A soul singer that so happens to be one of the purest guitarist around.
Anytime a performer sounds like the recording.
That's real Talent..no bullshit
real music unlike what we have today well done mr cray!
So smooth and effortless with those notes both singing and playing. The young generation Z are missing out on real musicians.
Robert Cray is an unbelievable, under rated and under appreciated blues man. He sounds as good now as he did in the 90s.
He sounds as good as he did in the 70's!! This guy has been around for a lot longer than most think. He has played with the best and is one of the best. Not flash, just pure talent
I first heard about him mid-80’s. That man can play 🎸
Yes .Don't know his history but BB King must've been his inspiration
Yes. No flash but he can't hide his sex appeal
and this vibratos just killing :)
Robert Cray is such a smooth and cool dude. An underappreciated blues icon.
Maybe but he plays with great force he really digs in those strings very hard. I think he improvise too in this song falsetto singing some places and guitar solo little different than record.
He plays only few notes but they mean a lot.
The best ones always are underappreciated, unfortunately.
@@benghiskahn3673 Rory Gallagher...
Mark Knopfler is another unappreciated talent. People have heard of Dire Straits, of course. Incredibly most do not know the name of the guy up front. When new MK records are released, only those "in the know" realize what is there. He's been putting out new recordings about every two years,, starting with Golden Heart in'96, he's been making new music on a regular basis. Of artists that are close to him in age, he is the only one who consistently puts out great new music.
I don't think he wants the fame and the stardom. Not that he doesn't deserves it. He's a frontman, lest we forget. At this point he knows hes appreciated by the ones that listens to him. He's reconized in the industry, having won Grammys, tells us this, but He never went after the ''Big Fame'' as a choice, I think.
Never had that ''Attitude'' that alot of artists have ( all discipline included ) of the rock star. He never cared and I always respected him so much for that. And its also why he strikes such a deep chord into me. I Love his guitar playing and its always SO on point, its crazy. But I always loved him so much more for his vocal, they soots my soul to the core.
Storytelling on the highest level possible. Such a beautiful song
First time I ever saw Robert Cray Band was about 15 years ago when he opened for Buddy Guy. Couldn't have cared less about the headliner, Robert Cray Band stole the show. They were so smooth and so tight, I remember just closing my eyes and taking it all in. It was like I was listening to a CD but with so much heartfelt emotion and dynamics. Robert Cray is a master and without a doubt the best live act I have ever seen.
Yes!!! Perfect Robert ❤❤❤
Eric Clapton said it: he's got the whole package...
💕 💞 💓 💗 💖
And he was Really rude To Eric over Covid, Robert Cray is a punk
@@BarbButler❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
doesn't rely on pedals nor using pedalboard, just pure guitar and amplifier tone. Love you Robert ❤
I just don't get tired of listening.
This is great music......nothing fancy.....just the stuff we all need. Why didn't I know about Robert before?
Long time not heard, takes me back to mid 80,remembering our younger days, now 60 yrs old.
for real, authentic blues - beautiful soul
The best thing about Robert is his voice. Then the guitar solo plays. And I change my preference. Again.
Wow how many singers are lucky enough to keep their voice after they reach their 60s!
I'm a Braziian. This guy is fantastic!!!!
It's been years and years and I keep coming back.
Who are you bro?
SAW THIS MAN IN 1986 AND TOUGHLY ENJOYED HIM IN 1986 CUPERTINO, CA AT DE ANZA COMMUNITY COLLEGE!
Growing up in an era of The Robert Cray band since the eighties, is so thankfull to tell my grandchildren. Enjoying a moment worth a lifetime.
I just saw Robert and his band in Clearwater last night. Blows me away. It’s been six years between performances and last night was spot on. His guitar is so clean. His voice is amazing. It doesn’t sound as if he’s aged a day. A living legend.
Just bought tickets to see him. Unbelievable he's playing a few blocks from my home. Can't wait!
Saw Robert Cray Band on Saturday in Edinburgh on his current tour. He’s just so good, as was the rest of the band. An absolute must see - pure class all round👏👏👏
Yes!!! 🎉
Im a believer now and forever
Amazing.....superb ...he is the best.. great musician .🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I was fortunate to see him at an empty Garden District mansion in New Orleans very late one summer evening. Maybe 30 people there. Warm beer. Warm whiskey. Sticky with sweat and smoke. Ghosts were dancing in the shadows. He shook the house to the rafters. Been a fan ever since!
That was soulful, Robert Cray, one of the great blues guitarists ❤
great song from a great artist
Saw Robert Cray on this tour in Beaumont ,Texas. Every song was worthy of a standing ovation, this man is a living legend no doubt!!
I grew up with them since the 70's my grandmother would play the on a vinyl player
This is otherworldly...from start to finish he grabs a hold of your heart and holds it tight and doesn't let go till he's done..Robert thank you for this.
Pure magic
Love his playing and that smooth mellow voice.

He is surely a H.O.F just a matter of time. Let's just enjoy his gifts while he's here .
March 10th at Penns Peak! Tickets purchased 💯 Can’t wait… 1 ticket so I can actually watch the master class
Richard Cousins, you're really good, without your way of bass playing this song would never exist ,,, congratulations, .. .Robert ...without comment, ...always good!
What a bassline accompanied by such an incredible voice..He really was born with a guitar in his hand ..I love the ending of this version it has a doors vibe to it !!
I love the pristine and clean tone of his guitar. Flipping superb
Anyone who had played guitar knows how difficult it is to do that. Especially when you close your eyes and let the music flow. Most people wouldn't think it to be that way. But it is. Respect.

That bit at the end is quite impressive, many people try to play with dynamics like that but I never heard someone pull it off this good.
Also, this is an insanely amazing live sound!
Robert deserves hall of fame!
One of the most underated blues guitarists ever.
Top player/singer❤
❤️🌹❤️
Unforgettable
pure class!!! fantastic!!
Perhaps the most talented man in the music world
Listening to this song for the first time. Daaaaaaayyuuummmnnnn.
You got there in the end🤗
Such good clean music, so pure. Voice and all
I haven't heard this in years, and it's even better live. Takes me back to 1986...
Saw Robert Cray perform this outstanding cut in 1987 somewhere in Massachusetts.
Kayce, went to Cray concert bout 4yrs ago , Awesome!!! Rock n Roll!!!
Young Bobby has more talent in a cut off piece of his toenail, than any song writer, singer, guitar player, vocalist, composer, front man, genius.. ON THIS PLANET PERIOD YO!!! If anyone ever has the chance to see Bobby Live, jump on it!!! His shows are a fucking treat!! I once was at one of his performances, couldn't get tickets to get in... I found a piece of cardboard had a sharpie in my whip, and wrote NEED 3 TICKETS on it. After holding the cardboard in front of every person possible, I said fuck this, and went over to a guy who was guarding a side door, gave him 60 bucks to let the three of us in. No problem dude, he then guided us right up in front of the stage, damn shit couldn't be any better yo!! Show started, it was awesome, big time, I held up my cardboard along with a sharpie, and just held it there, after his show a person was shining a flashlight, and pointing at my face then he called me over, and said Mr. Cray wants to give me his autograph, wow I was in disbelief so I gave him my cardboard that says NEED 3 TICKETS then took it backstage, and Yong Bobby signed it he gave it back to me. It's been 20 years, and I still have it framed hanging in my music room. Young Bobby, I love you my Irish cousin. Keep on with the keeping on cuz!!
You are so correct my friend
Great story, I love mr. cray … don’t be afraid of the dark….
Robert Cray Oh man what can I say he's so underappreciated under rated and to me he is the blues. He's so smooth and cool. He's all about the beautiful music and the guitar. Robert you are awesome!
Was fortunate to see him at the 'Harvester' in Rocky Mount, Va.
He, and his band were amazing !
Fab, Fab - Richard Cousins is awesome too, and very appealing!
So underated,,, this man is fabulous!!!!
I love Mr Cray music just found out about him a couple of days ago. So great he's got that soul.
I saw them the month before Covid struck. Just wonderful.
One of the Best and Greatest worldwide!!!
What these young folks know about this go head Robert do your thing
This song is my absolute favourite of Robert Cray’s. He is just the best bluesman!
An underappreciated blues icon.
I've seen Robert more times than any other band and still havent had enough.
I was born in 2004 and this is the kind of music my kids are gonna listen to as early as possible so that they have a good music taste
Love Roberts songs and performances
Talk about an unrated musician. He rocks the Blues
Robert is the natural upgrade of great names of blues ...almost without touching the standard catalogue, with own compositions, telling intimate stories ...only with his privilege voice and genuine way for playing guitar ...Robert Crack 👏😎👍
Robert Cray è il Blues!
Love...
nothing but PURE talent!! was in wichita ks. a while back! loved everyy minite of it!!!!
What great players know is it is righteous and most pleases The Lord is see these songs played along with by us younger brothers. And that's what it is all about the very best of school and Music as an entire thriving clarion minion over by Robert Clay himself. I'm going back to school as soon as I push the play button.
He has a Gospel preacher's voice. It fits perfectly with the soulful blues.
This guy doesn't age! Cheers....always a class act.
Higgs Boson totally thinking the same-how does he look so youthful?!
He's aging gracefully.
Great! 👌👌 Thx for this song
I listen to Robert and his band while on road trips, makes traveling more rewarding.
Robert is, along with Mark knopfler, imo the most distinctive and soulful guitar player 🙏🥰
You nailed it perfectly. 2 unique and unmistakabe guitarists
Wow what a fantastic performance! like fine wine, just gets better with age.
I’ll be seeing him in a few weeks in Hartford. NEVER pass up an opportunity to see this legend 🔥
He is most definitely an icon!
Great live version. That vocal is sweet 😁👍🏻
When the guitar playing and the song is felt equally that's a great artist, rock on cray . . . .
Why am I only hearing this now, damn this guy is smooth. Rock N Roll
Idk but he also co-wrote Old Love with Eric Clapton.
The dynamics in this band are so well done. When Robert rolls his volume back and the whole band follows suit.... it’s just magic
So true!
He played in Toronto in the early 90s, and I saw him change guitars FOUR TIMES in one song. Eric Clapton says he's his favourite. That's high praise indeed.
Clapton booted him from the tour...
Rory and Robert on the player tonight. The definition(s) of slick, hardcore, and smooth
Si!
The embodiment of blues"
Robert is just good ....
I've been listening to Robert Cray for 40years now and i've been to 2 concerts. His music never grows old.
EXCEPTIONNEL!
"She was just another notch on my guitar" Robert Cray is unique..so talented. His lyrics are the best. "In the silence I can hear her breaking heart". I first heard him in '92 when I took my daughter to Christian Brothers U. in Memphis and fell in love.
This performance is absolutely spot on great clean guitar sound and fantastic vocals
Saw him in Fort Myers 20 years ago and then last week in Rocky Mount, VA. It was an ever better experience than the first show and he was phenomenal both times.
