The 3D world style. There are no stacked enemies, so this is the next best thing.
I use it as a sacrifice for bullet bills
I’m pretty sure it can be used as a timer in 3D world. A bullet bill hits each body part of the pokey and when it hits the head, boom. Key
Am I the only one who hates how they don't stare at you like in the original games?
Yyaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy
I don't think this guy realizes how much I - and all his viewers, for that matter - appreciate these videos. They're SO well-made and it's clear you put serious time and effort into telling us everything there is to know about any given MM2 item. Seriously, these past couple weeks I've literally been going to bed Tuesday night being excited for the next day SOLELY because we'll be getting a new item breakdown. Please keep going with this series!
Well I really appreciate this comment and you just made _my_ night!
Srsly tho we all appreciate his vids and we hope he can somehow get to 100k!
You don't see many comments like that but they're right. I don't even own the game, yet it's a blast seeing all of the uses of a coin.
And he has a Patreon hint hint ;)
🤔
Please don’t ever stop using alliteration in your videos, it Sounds So Satisfying!
It seriously sounds super satisfying saying such superb sentences!
@@danieldavid3766 Wow wthat was wa wpretty wclever wcomment!!
@Daniel GRAINGER no ne nidn't nate
Especially when he said cactus comrade

Honestly Pokeys disappointed me with just how limited they are. Like they can't be stacked? Really? I made a level around them when they came out but it took me days to actually come up with even 4 ideas for them.
Agreed. The fact that an enemy known for being a literal walking stack can't be stacked with other enemies really disappointed me.
a lot of the game feels like this, honestly
If it was at the top of an enemy stack, the whole stack should die when the pockey head is killed
This would certainty help on a lot of ideas
I made a level about spinning on pokeys, but nobody liked it.
The only redeeming qualities is how it behaves in the night theme, and on tracks i guess
To be honest, while Mario Maker's contraption potential is a part of the appeal, I think adding elements focused on traditional course design is not a bad idea- and the Pokey is a pretty good example of this.
It's not all that useful for contraption construction, but for traditional stages, it just 'feels' better than stacks of Spinies, and its unique gameplay, while not that interactive with other elements, is nonetheless just as useful for level design as it's ever been in official games.
I think Ceave didn't quite rate them fairly, since they're clearly meant more for traditional stages than for contraptions- which makes sense, since he's all about making wacky machines in Mario Maker. Pokeys won't help him push the limits of the game any further.
I would give Pokeys 4/5 Chargin' Chucks, for being so useful in the creation of traditional stages- particularly desert stages- and for having at least a few neat contraption applications, with the headshot mechanic and 'hanging stack' behavior. It misses out on the last Chuck for being too tall to fit into pipes and blasters, and for having fewer interactions than it could.
But adding Chucks, especially if they had football/baseball/clappin/whistlin variants, would be really cool. Rip Van Fish, Fire Snakes and Fire Sumos would also be awesome! Fire Snakes and Fire Sumos would also be helpful for lighting bob-ombs, melting frozen coins, and they could interact very well with a type of bomb block which exploded instantly upon being lit or exploded upon- which would allow for crazy contraptions and chain reactions of exploding bomb blocks.
I mean... in his enemy rating video, he gave Piranha Plants a 4/5 for being so good traditionally and being a projectile-shooting still entity
1:36 "MOVE FASTER POKEY!"
*"FASTER! FOR THE LOVE GOD, FASTER!"*
seem's like this line from ProtonJon isn't going to die
Even if it's small, I always love your use of words and alliterations.
I have no idea why I like these videos so much, they're just so tidy and pleasing to watch. They also give me inspiration for my own levels, so there's that :P
Good stuff my dude
Thank you, it means a lot. Especially for how long you've stuck around!
Same and i don't even own a switch
Ok but
A Pokey head in a cloud is the cutest thing ever
I couldn't agree more; it hurt me to kill it.

He was just vibin you didn't need to do it to him
I think they were more wanted because the desert theme felt incomplete without them rather than that they were actually going to be a major boon. At least that was my feelings about them.
We need the Fire Snake
DarthWolf Gamer If we get that we should also get a volcano theme. 🌋
@@zarthy4169...meteor showers for night mode?
Gizensha Fox Also fog that chases you.
Aaah, you missed the opportunity to use ProtonJon's "Move Faster Pokey!" quote at the beginning there.
That aside, great video you got going!
I find your videos very relaxing, even if I don't plan to buy SMM2 any time soon. I guess I like when people ecplain things calmly and passionately, no matter the subject.
Well hey, fine by me! I'm here to both entertain and inform - thanks for the kind words.
@@TobiasBergdorf and thanks for making these pleasant videos !
"A Kaizo level with our 'Barbed' friend." Not sure if intentional or not but good pun.
Oh it was absolutely intentional. Barb's the man.
@@TobiasBergdorf he's the fasts man
At least he's a way to make something like "stacking enemy" in 3D World style.
I found a use for pokeys in a puzzle level I was designing. I needed an enemy that can interact with other enemies and turn them around, but fit in a 1 block wide area, and be able to be defeated without having the player jump on its head. As it turns out, the pokeys were the only ones that perfectly fit what I was looking for so they do have their uses...occasionally.
1:41 - "Move faster pokey!..... Faster!"
you really thought of everything, nice dude :D
While it is true that Pokies don't have many unique use cases, they do have strange niches all to themselves:
-Pokies are the slowest enemies in the game.
-Unlike enemy stacks, Pokies can go on tracks and in Lakitu clouds.
Also unlike enemy stacks, a Pokey will turn around when it hits a block that it's too tall to pass. Regular stacks will instead break.
-Pokies are more efficient than enemy stacks in both height and the enemy limit.
With all this in mind, it's clear that Pokies are a kind of "stack 2.0." They serve the same basic use case as a stack, being giant destructible walls, but do that specific thing better.
Pokey: The cactus that moves
_just don’t eat it_
It needs to move faster.
HPR Stillwagon Yoshi: that sign can’t stop me cause I can’t read
i greatly enjoy the creative ways you find to refer to the subject of the video.
Your videos have been extremeley helpfull in the making of my levels
Great to hear!

Tobias is slowly becoming Dr. Seuss
Keep up the phenomenal work Tobias!
I’m gonna use these so much in my desert world for world maker, these will be the most important thing of all to have.
Just found this channel and I'm loving it. You have gained a sub.
I love your use of alliteration
You should add what sounds items make when they touch a note block
For some reason, even though I only found this channel a few weeks ago, the intro feels nostalgic
Just found your channel. Keep up the great content bro! really liked this video
There's so much alliteration and i love it
I love how happy the pokey looks.
Did not know about submerged winged pokeys jumping higher. That could make for some unique challenges. Thank you.
I haven't used pokeys much myself yet but I did have a small level with pokeys hanging on tracks at the end and twisters blowing you up into them so you have to avoid the twisters and make your way up when the pokeys pass.
I used them in the 1st level I made, a snow level, and another I made recently. Unlike a stack of enemies they only use up 1 enemy slot in the enemy limit (find that very useful at times). The winged ones have a neat run under timing challenge.
Love your videos !
I like how the Pokey has a different hat in every snow game style
You forgot to say that in the night ghost house theme Pokey can have a sort of light
the edits in these videos are pretty good
Wanted This Enemy Since Day 1. Good Vid Series bro
:(
These idea will really **stick**!
I’m sorry
_Good_ _one._
Why
It may stack, but it will not stack
_lol_
you are awesome! thank you for all the info
Why are these so good
love these vids so much!
0:18 Oh golly, that's not a bad-looking little cactus!
Pokey : (Shocked)
These vids are so good
You make me thankful of how much wprk nintendo put into this game
Put a parachute on a night ground theme pokey, it is fun.
You said something that made me think: pokey is the enemy stack you can hold with a claw. In levels that rely on claw drop mechanics, is a way to drop an enemy stack in the way with a simple mechanism
the snow pokey fits well with the spike balls that turn to snow
You did the parched pokey wasteland thing!
Tobias the master of ALLITERATION
I wonder if the hit box of the pokey is on a per-segment basis, meaning that if you timed it correctly within a kaizo you could theoretically hit a pokey stack and pass through the tiny gap created before the rest of the pokey stack reattaches. Could be a really sick trick.
Woot new item breakdown
Also something important you missed : a parachuting pokey at the night ground theme fall slowly in a snake-esque parthen.
I’m making a level about Seesaws and I’m using Pokeys as obstacles since you need to jump over them and I’m also gonna use Spikes so that the Spike Balls they throw make the Seesaw go all over the place
Sounds like a good concept!
You are truly TRULY underrated and needless to say AMAZING. I love this channel, and the effort put into it. Your reviews are nothing but dedication, and creativity. Thank you for all your hard work, and keep making these amazing videos!
I love ur videos
You should make a video where you show how to use sound and music effects because the music ones can become really complicated and confusing to use
0:18 Ayy, Bob Ross! Love that guy.
Don't even mess with that alpha male eight tile pokey
2:43 If you use a glitch to put a pokey in a pipe, if the pipe is not facing up, it looks funny
Fire Snake!
i was pleasantly surprised seeing this video in my feed as i had watched most of your latest videos and really liked them! even if i don't have smm2, it's good to keep on track of the updates and changes! keep up the good work!
1:19 I’m glad Mario wasn’t driving the car under the influence (of the Super Star power-up).
Will you do other mechanic breakdowns like scrollstop?
we love you
I'm annoyed that they called them Snow Pokeys and not Snokeys
The ones that vape 24/7 are called Smokey’s
The ones who ride bikes are spokeys
The ones that don't have money are called brokeys
And the prankster ones are called Lokeys
Did you know in the underwater night theme and the ghost house night theme, pokies emit a beam of light like a wiggler!
I Love all of these ideias...
Sadly i dont have a switch
The best way to use Pokeys is in nighttime Ground theme, where it floats _gracefully_ through the sky!
Pokey also appeared in Earthbound :D
Oh damn, I didn't get the notification!
Good series bro. Glad this series is going to last a LONG time
Definitely will be a while before it's finished, if it ever is...
Stacking spinies and spike tops makes a pseudo pokey. Basically identical, I wish pokeys could have other enemies stacked on them.
7:11 whenever I see a checkpoint behind the flag for decor like this, I laugh because when clear checking, I know you have to spawn there to clear it lol. (It happens to me)
YESS I love this series
I used them as a bushy area you can Sword or dash your way through as Link
I like how he uses under the influence
cop: GET DOWN ON THE GROUND AND GIVE ME THE STARS
mario: YOU WILL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE COPS!
If anyone reads this comment, pokeys grabbed by claws in the ground night theme act interestingly, especially when it's on tracks
Pokeys are over looked and under rated! JUSTICE FOR POKEYS!
Do Boom Boom next
this is my emotional support series
I would've used the *"MOVE FASTER POKEY"* clip...
MOTHER 2 is pretty cool, I agree.
"Link finds himself in an ancient tomb"
Is that a reference to my Ancient Tombs series where you play as Link? Probably not but still.
I have yet to try the Pokey in a dark level build.
KEEPmaking vids
When did you turn into such a potent wordsmith?
When will you do the bill blaster one
Like him or hate him. He spittin’ straight facts.
I should make a level where you have to spinjump on a Pokey to cross a very long stretch of spikes or munchers.
"Move faster Pokey!"
Could you please do spike next?
Do the Doors next.
2x speed crew
good pokey kaizo
Hello! How do we make the Pokey's turn into oranges for the Mario Maker 2 game? (For reference, I saw it in Super Mario Bros Deluxe, a round spike was doing a cartwheel and cut off Pokey's sharp edges.) I really want him on my maps with that feature. Thanks!
Pokeys can also be gateways and if you get too close it will start moving
get this the snow pokey it the only 3d world enemy in all game styles
That's not a bad looking cactus, *let's kill it*
yes
What about adding in what sound they make on the music block if they make one at all
I thought about it, but at this point that'll either be in the Note Block Item Breakdown or in a separate video all about making music levels.
Maybe Nintendo only added the pokey because it was a popular request, comparing to other itens in the game, pokeys really lack interaction and "unique things" to it, so my guess is that nintendo only add because of how many people asked for it. But who knows, It's just what I think.
