Exploring the Vashlovani area with our MAN HX60 Bliss mobil

We wanted to drive from the Dalis Mta Reservoir through the other side of the Chachuna Managed Reserve towards Udabno. On that route there are a number of cave churches/monasteries Monique was keen to visit. We had to drive back to the Reservoir to start this route. We have camped here before when we visited the mud volcanoes. When we were 1hr into our route we were stopped at a border control point. The rain had made a river crossing impossible/too dangerous, although the officer thought that we could possibly make with the high clearance of the truck, he sent us back. We were not surprised, as the same happened to another car the day before. They tried another route and we had not seen them return. So maybe that route was also possible for us. We tried but found that our size and height made some sections difficult. We managed to cross a number of gulley’s. Some were challenging, particularly as we did not know how soft the ground had become after the rain. As we progressed slowly we realised that the terrain would remain challenging and not open up for quite some time. We decided to turn around and try the route from the Udabno side.
