  • The STH4 Thom Hannum “Beast” Stick is the newest model Marching Percussion Signature Snare Stick by Vic Firth.
Originally created as a custom stick for Carolina Crown to use in their 2018 production of “Beast” at DCI, Thom’s new stick is capable of delivering a huge sound without feeling unwieldy. It is easily controlled and delivers a fantastic feel at all dynamic levels. A higher shoulder adds a bit of weight as well as extra durability in the rim shot area. This is balanced out by a specially-designed taper that increases flex and response in ways not possible on traditional short-tapered sticks.
This stick is 17” in length, .700” in diameter and has a short taper.

I don’t think I’ve seen Thom happier with any other product than he is with this one. Look at him smile!!

Just got a pair yesterday! I'll say after using Mike Jacksons for several months, these sticks were quite a change in weight but I personally feel my school's snareline will enjoy using these next year!

On a scale from Roger Carter to Shane Gwaltney how light or heavy are they?

@@mrnicknick02I know I’m 4 years late but to answer the question, Beasts are slightly between the Roger carters and Shane Gwaltneys!

Back in the day we used Slingerland Densiwoods to train with. At the time they were
the heaviest stick on the market. Float wouldn't let us use them for practice or in a
show. Guys were damaging their wrists. Not a fan of heavier sticks used over and
over but that's just me. The Hardimon Hammers are killers. I have a pair but I never use them. To each his own. I will say that when I was a 20-sometrhing and bullet proof
I would use the heaviest stick available for training purposes and then switch to
my regular sticks. I came to the conclusion as a mature (more mature) adult that
the best stick to use everyday is the stick I use everyday.

And as a side note I loved the Thom Hannum sticks that were a bit shorter
and gray in color. I really need to buy a couple of pairs. Here I go!

I've felt a pair, felt pretty decent. But I think the pair I ordered for myself was just a bad pair. The two instances were some time apart, but I don't recall such noticable issues on the pair I tried out at first. Probably just a botched pair. I'm sure they're good sticks.

personal review of the sticks: i bought them a week ago, they came in super quickly and they arent overpriced. price range is about average for most marching sticks, which is nice. however, when i actually got the sticks i strongly disliked them because of how heavy they are. i thought BYOS sticks were heavy, but these are way heavier. they have a great look to the stick and the size fits my hands very well but the weight is something i really dislike personally. if you're looking for heavy sticks these are definitely the ones you want though.

I had the opposite. My sticks were stupid light, lighter than hardimons, and dead. Really sucks because I was excited to get them but they ended up being useless.
