How To Cook Sardines & Make Them Taste Good

  • Sardines are without a doubt one of the go-to most nutrient-dense fish I consume and recommend to my clients. The problem is so many don't like the taste of them. One way to improve nutritional adherence is to reduce the friction associated with eating the food. In this case, palatability is a barrier. Here I'm showing how I make sardines as palatable as possible.
    WHY SARDINES?
🐟 Lower in heavy metals compared to larger fish
    🐟 21g protein
    🐟 700mg of Omega 3
    🐟 100-200mg of Calcium
    🐟 200-300mg of Phosphorus
    🐟 8mcg of B12
    🐟 ~30mcg of Selenium
    🐟 ~400 IU of Vitamin D
Per 90g serve. The nutrient density in one can of sardines either exceeds the adequate or recommended daily intake for the above nutrients or gets you much closer.
If you are trying to improve your overall nutrient status, sardines are one of the 'lowest hanging fruit' to improve it.

Okay I just did it. I opened up a can of sardines that were in water. No bones and no skin. That stuff doesn't bother me. I bought all different types of cans... I took about a tablespoon of butter. Let it melt in the meantime. I took the sardines out of the water padam dry and then I put them in the butter to heat them up and brown. Just a little, probably 2, 3 minutes on each side. When those were done I took them out at a little more butter and then I threw in some garlic one clove let it heat up one minute only cuz you don't want to burn your garlic and then I added like a tablespoon of fresh squeeze lemon juice, half of a lemon. Let that marinate with the garlic butter poured it over the cooked sardines that are warmed up. And oh my goodness it was so good. I can't tell you it didn't taste fishy it just tasted garlicy, butter and fish. I love it. I'm going to do the challenge 3 days. I can do this

i've been trying and trying to eat sardines for probably a couple of years now and every time I open up a can no matter how I prepared it I couldn't even finish those small cans. But tonight I tried frying it with some olive oil without the water that comes packed in. For just about a minute or two and then I added garlic salt on top and I didn't even need the pickles on the side to drown out the taste which was my original plan this time around. And it was super delicious!

Sardines and anchovies are perfect right out of the can. I usually eat several cans of sardines and a tin or two of anchovies every week.

Thank you for this video. I need to start by saying I hate sardines, so my review is skewed. This came out okay, definitely not bad though. I could still taste the sardines, which I didn't like so will use more tomato paste next time. That seemed to be the star of the show here. I made it more palatable (aka less sardine flavored) with lemon juice and some hot sauce. Appreciate the video! Trying to add sardines to my diet and this was a fun and easy recipe to try out. Looking forward to trying out more sardines recipes. Thanks again!

to make sardines less fishy tasting: squeeze a liberal amount of lemon juice on them, and combine with your favorite pasta & sauce. you're welcome.
